At her gesture, Rubido suddenly became aware they had stopped walking, and resumed his gate. He smirked as she denied his speach.

"Oh, probably. I've never been one for... those sorts of things, but I really don't have a good excuse, and its expected." Shrugging apologetically, he fingered the flyer still balled up in his pocket. "I've got no real plans 'cept a chore to pick up later, and it'd look a little odd if I was running around unoccupied during an execution. Someone might get curious, unwarranted."

"What about you?"

She shook her head slightly, more in defeat then denying she was going. “I guess, if you put it that way...I have no real way of e-excusing myself.” She sighed and hung her head, watching her feet as they moved beneath her, carrying her off to a destination she, at the moment, wasn’t exactly sure of.

“I-I didn’t want Miaka to see it though.” She answered truthfully with a shrug. “B-but maybe it would be good, to p-pray for him?” She nodded to herself as if she needed the extra assurance. After all, the man could use the support.

Miaka, who up to this point, had basically been forgotten about decided to make her presence known once more by sneezing rather loudly and giggling at the expression her other self made as she was startled into looking at the girl again. She had almost a devilish like grin and she cooed to Hikari as if talking to her.

The dancer stared skeptically at the girl for a moment before shrugging it off and adjusting the child’ weight in her arms, feeling the other one already getting sore, not used to having to carry the extra weight. “T-though...” She added as if an after thought. “He will definitely be going to a better place...”

Severin shuffled steadily out of the boneyard, the bundle of his new son tucked neatly in his arms and enclosed in his jacket. There was a light drizzle, and though Ankou had a hood and warm seeming clothing, Sev took no chances. no one was really fond of getting wet, so he didn't think babies would either.

The walk to Larry's home was rather simple, really. Nothing major or interesting happened, and the Doctor was completely oblivious to all the papers that spoke of execution that were fluttered rather wetly around.

Once he reached what appeared to be the proper door-Severin hesitated and looked down to Ankou. The child of death made no signs of noticing, so he just shifted his hold and knocked on the door.

"Well, if you really don't want to, I'm sure they'd take a child as a reasonable excuse." He smiled consolingly. "I don't thing praying for him could ever hurt. That's why I usually go to these things for. Not neccisarily to pray, but to make sure whoever's up there knows they're not all alone." He sighed, momentarily caught in old memories before jerking himself back to the present, the harbor, the morning. They were alive, damn it!

Determined to pull them out of the dour mood they were so quickly sinking into, Rubido straightened and grinned whole-heartedly. "But y'know what else? If that guy is really going to lose his life today, I bet he wouldn't want everyone he fought for passing their lives up just because of it! You got anything to celebrate?"

“Celebrate?” Hmm...did she? “Yami?” She questioned, speaking her sisters name, then shook her head a sudden thought popping in her head making her blush furiously. She freed on hand and moved to touch the ring that sat on her neck, and slowly felt a smaller pair of fingers doing the same.

She looked down at Miaka who giggled happily before closing her beautiful green eyes and yawned slightly. Hikari assumed the girl would fall asleep soon, and smiled softly. “Yeah. I have things to be grateful for.” She answered with a firm nod of her head.

I’ll protect you from that man... Hikari could hear Miaka’s voice over and over in her head. It played itself like a broken record, that soft spirit showing up in her minds eye. She suddenly felt all the safer, and believed the words that the woman who turned into a baby spoke to her. She would protect her. Not now, maybe, but in the future she was sure she would.

“You know what? I think I will go. I think...” She looked down at Miaka who was lightly snoozing in her arms. “It would be a good thing for her to see.” She answered firmly. A good thing for her to see just- what exactly-was going on in the world that she was now born into.

"Oh, thank you, Miriam, that's very helpful. No...no, don't put that in your mouth. Here, try this instead. I...There's someone at the door. I'll be right back. ...We're playing a game, now, called the Don't Move or You Lose Game. No, that didn't count. Starting-NOW! Okay, we'll ignore that, just...just hold on, both of you."

The small piece of flooring suddenly lifted, difficult to distinguish in the ruin and debris.

"Hello? Oh, you called early! I was just getting ready to leave...come on in. Watch the steps, they're a shade steep."

Dr. Severin jumped a little bit at Larry's voice, but overall seemed pleased to hear it. He was a talkative fellow, but the first the doctor had even come close to befriended in a very long time. Anything was a comfort in days like these. He nodded a bit and lifted his eyebrows at the rubble, but he wasn't scrutinizing. Afterall, he did live in a tomb.

"S-Sorry to come so early.. I'm afraid I've got something, er.. Someone.. I might need some help with." The northern man said awkwardly, carefully using his long legs to navigate the stairs while keeping hi grip comfortably firm on Ankou. When he reached Larry, he withdrew his jacket and held up the boy, making a sligt grimace.

Larry looked disappointed. "I guess we both lost our Cards then, huh? Man. Now we're never going to find out whether they did all that stuff the Fortune Teller said they did. Unless what we both really wanted was babies. Because in that case, it worked pretty well."

Larry pushed his chair towards Severin, and took a seat on the side of his bed. Miriam was still playing on the floor, although she smiled at both guests before returning to what looked a lot like a wooden duck. Fifi was nearby, and ignored everyone completely.

Severin's eyes wandered about and he slowly took the offered chair, his expression troubled. "I would s'pose so.. I'm afraid my deepest desires involved no children. I'm unfamiliar with the parenting business, I can not even scratch up a name." he said, his voice crestfallen and matching his face.

Ankou woke up with the sounds of another voice, and peered from beneath his hood at Larry, then eventually to Miriam. He squirmed and attempted to sit up, but found it hard in his current position. Oddssen noticed his squirming and carefully placed him on the ground beside Miriam, while glancing to Larry.
"Is this alright.. I think he wants to.. mover around a bit."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 21, 2006 7:05 pm

"They're our deepest desires, right? Maybe they're really deep. I mean, so deep even we don't know about them. Either that or they just give everyone a baby and hedge on paternal instict to be in there somewhere. Aw...geez, don't look so down, Doc. I'll help you out. I've got experience in this sort of thing. And yeah, it's okay. Like I said earlier, I baby-proofed the place. All choking-hazards and breakable items are locked up or out of reach. "

Miriam solemnly offered the duck to Ankou. "Baaa." She explained, softly.

"I finally found a name, myself! Her name's Miriam...my mom always wanted to use that name, but my dad wouldn't let her. The 'L' thing."

The Fortune Teller
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Awaking early that morning, the Fortune Teller took a deck of cards from within her robes. She shuffled the cards, waiting and watching the door of the kitchen intently. It was as she had expected: the young man was one of those who Philemon had marked. The past evening, she had made certain he fell asleep quickly to avoid any unnecessary conversation. She only needed him to see his Other self in his dreams for her to do her job properly.

Feyd had dreamt that night but by the time he rose it had been forgotten. It was only as he went to the theater's doors to see the notice that had everyone abuzz that it even occurred to him that there might be something he was missing.

It was something he saw in the shadows that triggered it-- no, it was the shadows themselves. For some damnable reason the inky blackness reminded him of something, someone. The thoughts momentarily drove Marius Quinn the actors mind as the face of a stranger flashed across Feyd's eyes. No, not a stranger, someone... familier, though he couldn't attach it to a place or name for the life of him.

It was in this confused state that he finally went to see his guest. The ominous notice had left the kitchen rather empty so it didn't take him long to find her.

"Did you... sleep well?"

Feyd wasn't sure he had.

Ankou stared at Miriam, a curiosity about him. His head was angled so his hood shadowed his face, and just his silvered eyes stood out from the light glistening off of them. It seemed he already had an air for the melodramatic. ".....Bah.." He said uncertainly, touching the duck with one finger.

Severin watched the Death Child with the same uncertainty regaurded to the sheepish duck. He looked back ot larry nad sighed, making an effort to wipe the frown from his face. He failed, obviously, but did look a little cheerier, perhaps it was relief. "It would have been nice if we had a choice in the whole child situation. Our deep setted desires, or no."

"Well, we do, don't we?" Larry asked, surprised. "I mean, no one's really forcing us to take care of them. We're just supposed to, is all. To save the world and everything. It'll be okay, really. Don't sweat it. Babies are actually pretty basic. They cry when they're hurt, wet, hungry, or tired. You check the first three before you hedge on the last one."

Miriam looked delighted with Ankou's response, and reached for something else nearby, which turned out to be a shoe. She gave him this, too. "Baaa." She repeated.

Larry played with his moustache for a moment. "Oh, geez, I forgot all about it! If you're worried about having a place to stay, you can crash here for a while. I have a few things tucked away, and I could scrounge up another mattress."

"Young man, you have a very fortunate future ahead of you. It seems that Philemon favors you. That is the reason for my visit to your theatre."

Sliding the cards back into a neat pile, she continued to shuffle them, bowing her head so that the hood cast a shadow across her face. "Very soon now, you shall find your way to the Velvet Room. It is the place where you shall meet your fate." As she finished with cards, she spread them in a fan across the table. "Please, take a card."

Feyd didn't seem to mind that she ignored his question, he did however blink at the mention of 'meeting his fate', a rather dark statement in his opinion. As for Philemon, the actor had never heard of such a man and told the woman so, a benfactor of the theater perhaps? Why would he send a fortune teller though? A large donation would have been much more useful.

Edging foward he watched as she worked her cards, concluding it was the fortune telling that she spoke of the night before. At her bidding, and without hesitation he swiped a card, flipping it over to look at it's face.
