But doing that just one time, after several hundred, should probably be allowed considering the help I've given to end this event. So, y 'know, Bel went ahead and social link'd with Obelyn and stuff. "Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"They were safe...against whatever odds that might have been against them, the silver-haired senior had defended the people from the demons and allowed them to avoid what would have surely been a fatal encounter against the horde that had been coming their way. It was a relatively large group of humans, he had discovered after talking to the few that had been out in the street, and it made sense then that the demons had been coming down to find them after they had been discovered. They were part of a group that were living inside of an Apartment Complex not so very far from where they were now, the leader of which was supposedly some big-time local hero...a violet-haired kid called the 'Sakurazukamori', the man had said...and he had been keeping many of the locals in Oshu under wraps in his Apartment, protecting them from the demons who strayed too close and generally kept them free from the worst of the danger. Soji had been surprised when he heard that; he knew a lot of people who had mastered the Cathedral of Shadows App and were capable of fighting back against the demons, but he knew almost nobody who could defend a huge group of people in such a small place essentially on his own. Whoever their leader was...he was strong. And he was clever if he had been smart enough to keep them hidden this long without losing the people under his protection.
He didn't ask to be taken back to them, however; on any other day, that's exactly what he would have done but today was different. Today he had too many things to do, and he had yet to find Chiaki and Isamu, nor had he seen Obelyn since he set out on his self-given mission to learn how to...and then successfully defeat the Red Viper. And dusk was upon them, darkness slowly creeping over the city as the sun began to set. Whoever the man was, he'd leave it to him to keep this place safe...although before the group of people had left to return (with the knowledge that they had nearly given away their entire group's location by being careless enough to cow them into doing so safely) hadn't been let go without the knowledge that the Japanese Government was still somehow up and running in some small measure back in Tokyo. He'd asked a woman among the survivors to relate the message of the Amala Network to their leader, and if possible, to have him make contact with Koichi Mori in Tokyo, the young Shogun, to funnel supplies into their group one way or another. Doing so would be enough to keep this crew going...long enough for them to complete their task and begin the Restoration. At least, that's what he hoped...but he couldn't be responsible for everyone in this world. He was already responsible for everyone, by his own choice, in his plan to restore the world to the way that it was.
One problem at a time. That's what it was going to take to save the world. One fight, one alliance, one peace...
He watched as the group left and waited until their voices faded and they rounded a corner down the road safely before turning back towards the school building and considering whether to keep searching through Oshu or move on. Okina City was left to search...and he might want to go back to Tokyo to check in and let the Shogun know that there might be another set of survivors checking in with him soon. To know more of the city was standing, still fighting, with pockets of survivors holding on even with all the odds against him...it would just be further proof that the Japanese fighting spirit lived on. "Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"He may have seen the people off safely, but that did not mean that the city itself was safe...nor did it guarantee his own safety from attack by the other demons and members of the various Reasons who were still wandering through Oshu City right now in search of one thing or another. Walking slowly back towards the school building that he had used for cover before, there was something different immediately that he noticed walking into the area now from when he had come here before. It was a scent...a feeling, perhaps? He listened carefully and could hear faint shuffling nearby, and that confirmed his feeling...his suspicion. Behind him and over his shoulder, he could feel his demonic companion appear again...sunken black eyes watching in that direction as well. They were of one mind on this situation, both aware of the danger and both aware that their shared actions were likely to be the best way to escape the dangerous situation safely. He glanced back over his shoulder and his demon caught his eye...they shared a nod, then without warning a needle and thread pierced his shoulder thinly, the stinging immediately subsiding as power filled him completely! He felt...sick, and yet strong at the same time. His hands pulsated with a dark energy.
Turning towards the building, he felt a second sight wash through his eyes and he could almost see the aura of the devils inside of the building that were searching for their next prey. Between his fingers he felt a series of needles emerge, and almost on instinct he flicked them out, an energy-thread attached to each as they wound their way around the walls and connected to those auras almost unnoticeable. Once he was sure that he had marked them all, he began to slowly approach the school building, lips curling into an ominous smirk. And as the demons inside began to react to the approaching 'human' heading in their direction, he could hear their anticipation and their ill intent whispering from between their lips.
"You don't seem to understand...any of you," he muttered quietly, darkly, as he stepped through the doors of the school building and waited for his quarry to step out into the hallway in anticipation of their next meal, "You think you are the predator. But you've got that backwards. And if any of your survive to learn that lesson, I'm going to have a few questions for you...understand?"Quote: 81 Tokens

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"That was...dark. He would have to be careful about choosing which demon he decided to allow temporarily possess him moving forward, because the things that he had done to those demons...dismemberment, disembowelment, decapitation in particular...had been just as awful as the wicked promises he'd uttered just before the fight made it seem. The school building was covered in blood and demonic body parts, but the one demon that he had spared (stitched by steel thread into the side of a locker brutally, without mercy) was gushing out as much information (most of it likely false, just an attempt to spare itself anymore pain) as it could about the 'boy with all the faces' and the 'girl with the black arm' who had been somewhere in the city before. Throughout all of the screeching and the obvious lies, there were a few tidbits of information in those names alone which told him that the devil wasn't completely full of crap. The first of which was the 'girl with the black arm' comment...as everything that he had heard and discovered before now had talked about Chiaki as having taken on a monstrous form since the Baal Avatar possessed her...and part of that form was a massive black arm which was the largest embodiment of the demonic power inside of her. That was consistent with her description, and if this demon knew it...then it had likely seen her in the city already today. That meant that she was here, and the Wolf of Ragnarok hadn't lied to him.
...But the 'boy with all the faces' was a new description for Isamu to him. He hadn't heard of any particular changes in his form since the possession by Noah, but the Reason of Musubi didn't have a lot of leaks in their group. He wasn't able to get anybody on their side close enough to spy on them, either. Was that the mutation that Noah had caused in him? Many faces? He made a mental note of the description and moved on, fairly sure that this thing being in the city this long meant that it had at the very least heard of the boy. So that was what he looked like now...what did it mean? The rest of the devil's rantings hadn't been filled with much useful, though. There had been screams about how the two of them had probably already killed each other, but then he'd contradicted that by saying that Isamu was running from Chiaki, then that Chiaki was being attacked by demons...there was no clear picture that he could draw from the descriptions, so he decided that the usefulness of this particular devil was exhausted. Mercifully ending the demon with a quick slice across the throat, he turned and marched down the long hall towards the door on the opposite end of the school building. As he walked, the wet squelch of blood beneath his feet made him uneasy...knowing that he had been the one to spill it all the more so.
"Isamu and Chiaki were both here in the city...and they were probably fighting," he thought aloud, both to drown out the sound of his footsteps until he was out of the building and putting together what he had discovered...that it was consistent with what he had been told was likely to happen. Stepping out of the school building, he glanced up at the fading sun and the creeping dark, hoping that soon...somehow...his journey would come to a successful conclusion. "I need to find them before it's too late. ...Obelyn...you're going to have to wait just a little bit longer."Quote: 88 Tokens

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"Walking the streets had helped him to find several instances of demons attacking people, planning nefarious deeds, and otherwise making mischief that he and others like him had to clean up before things got out of hand. What it hadn't gotten him so far was the lead that would bring him face-to-face with the two targets that he had been looking for since he arrived here...and in Chiaki's case, since he had begun the climb of the Mantra Tower back in Iwatodai. By the time he had circled the neighborhood and found his way back to the Yellow Dragon Bar's remnants, he knew that he needed to take another route in order to find out what he wanted to know. Whether they were intentionally avoiding him or simply on the move so that it was hard for him to pinpoint where they had ended up didn't matter; what mattered was that he still had to find them before he was comfortable moving on to the last objective of the day...the culmination of 7 days of cooperation with the Red Viper, the battle against him for all the Candelabras, all the power of the Bel, everything. This was the last hurdle, the last obstacle between humanity's chance for victory and the cycle of vengeance and murder that had brought them to the brink of extinction.
He needed a change of tactic. Pulling his phone from his pocket, he flicked it open and summoned his devils before him; Nebiros, Fenrisulfr, Earthys, and Preta appeared before him in-turn. Nodding in each of the four directions, he sent them all out to search for clues. If they could listen to the whispers, move among the demons in the city, hear or learn something that would lead him to what he was looking for...then perhaps that would be the break that he needed. All that he had to do was wait...he leaned against a half-burned pillar of the destroyed Yellow Dragon and crossed his arms as the dark overtook the sky, letting out a breath as he anticipated their return. Minutes passed...his mind drifted to the memories of the day, the climb up the Tower with Ellie and Shun...the morning meeting with Minori, Genji, and all the others. Within his mind he could see their faces...hear their voices. When this was over, he reminded himself to spend more time with them...more time with his friends in the Investigation Team...Yukiko, Yosuke, Rise, and the others especially, he missed them greatly. Fighting alone wasn't his style, even though he had the power now to do so. His power was a gift from his friends, from the bonds that he had formed. It wasn't meant for this, and yet...
Right now, this was the fight that he had to take. This was the fight he had to win.
"Hm...?!"
Suddenly he felt something in the distance, in the direction his Preta had gone! He flipped open his phone, and sure enough...it was dead. Why would the demons in that direction kill one of their own unless...they were someone who knew the difference? Now that was worth investigating.
He recalled his demons into his phone and turned his eyes towards the warehouse district, moving swiftly in the direction his Preta had disappeared to. Time to find out if this was another dead end...or finally some paydirt. Quote: 89 Tokens

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"He had been in Oshu City for a while now without any real luck in tracking down the duo that he had come to confront, and while he had certainly done some good for the area, it was starting to feel as though his investment was going to produce a bad return. He hated to admit the fact that he might not be able to find neither the leader of the Reason of Yosuga nor the leader of the Reason of Musubi in this city, but it was becoming increasingly obvious to him that the two had either moved on or they were actively avoiding him and he wouldn't find them through traditional means. At some point, the senior knew, he would have to decide whether or not he had anymore time to spend trying to save the two of them and convince them to lay down their Reason to embrace the Restoration of the old world. He was nearing that point, whether he wished to admit it or not. The demons that were roaming the city and menacing the people, the people who were in need of somebody to help them to safety or to return tot he sanctuary from which they had become astray, those were convenient excuses to extend the time of his search while he did some good. But you could only put off the inevitable for so long. And inevitably, he was going to have to come face-to-face with the Red Viper and cash in on the check that they had written to one another with words when they were both back at the station in Inaba. The fight was inevitable. The clash of their fated intentions was nigh. Night was falling and the world was fading into darkness, making the idea of searching start to feel unlikely to produce results. And he had been just about to consider giving up on the idea of finding the hat-clad teen and the beautiful girl with the interest in the occult when...
...The Preta disappeared, deceased and erased from his Cathedral of Shadows App. That was the lead that he had been waiting on! Before he knew it he was dashing in the direction that he had sent the Preta to search and rounding a corner out towards a shopping center-slash-strip mall and in the distance he could see several demonic figures gathered around something that made him instantly curious. What were they all gathered and looking at? Was it people? Was it them?! He flipped his phone open and as his demons returned to his command, he rushed forward without stealth this time and called out Nebiros to assist him. Behind him, the weaver of death, the Black Marquis, called his needles to his fingertips and prepared for the swift and total annihilation of anything that got between they and their ultimate destination. But as they drew nearer, the demons turned to look at him but didn't attack him. In fact, while they looked at him like prey they didn't move, except to open a path for him to pass through the middle of the crowd...almost as though they were ushering him forward to something. But what? Was this...an invitation? "Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"It was extremely unusual. Demons weren't usually this well-behaved, particularly when he could sense the bloodlust rolling from their bodies and see the way their eyes followed him and appraised him like a particularly tasty morsel on a plate full of buffet food. By now, he was convinced that it wasn't his Candelabrum that kept them at bay, but some other force that was making them docile enough not to attack him, something they either feared or respected enough not to react against their orders. And so they parted, the crowd of demons moving to either side and then closing in behind him as he advanced, slowly coming closer to the center of the group (not tremendously numerous, but some of the demons' massive size made the walk to the center longer than one might have expected regardless) with his eyes still peeled for sight of who or what it was that was playing him in this particular situation. Nebiros was looming ominously behind him as they walked; his steel needles were at the ready for any suspicious movement or actions among their enemies. Even if the devil was a little off-putting and creepy, it was comforting in a way just to know that something that formidable was watching his back. He would simply have to hope it was enough of the worst should come to pass.
Finally, after a short walk, the last of the demons on this side of whatever they were watching was behind them and a clearing out into what had once been a busy intersection in the heart of Oshu City opened up before them. In each of the four incoming streets around them there were demons lined up, some of them even lined the windows of the buildings on either corner of the road, looking down upon them with a combination of lustful hunger and restless curiosity. The senior tried to make a note of each of them, glancing up at the windows with his eyes so that the Black Marquis would also include them in the count for whenever they would (maybe) have to deal with them. But what caught his eye most was, in the end, the heart of the entire endeavor. At the center of the ring of demons, surrounded by the devils that had pledged themselves to them, was the master that had brought them all here. They watched him with calculating eyes, almost as if they had been expecting him to show up all along. And beneath the moonlit sky here in the Northern Outpost, the city of the One-Eyed Dragon, he finally found himself standing face-to-face with one of the targets that he had spent so much time trying to track down.
"There you are," the teen smirked, noticing that the challenge which had been issued by the others' eyes dictated that breaking the eye-contact or backing down in any way was likely to be taken as a sign of weakness. "Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy""So you're the one...the human being fighting with that half-breed, Kisa? I was expecting someone...bigger," the voice of a woman responded to Soji's inquiry, one eye focused solely on his own and the other nearly covered by the black substance that had formed into her massive, demonic arm. She appraised him as though she were anticipating some kind of a more visceral reaction...an incredulous bark about what she was doing, or a violent attack to try and stop her from taking the path that she had chosen. This girl, Chiaki Tachibana, was ready for anything that he might consider trying. She watched him like a predator, a feeling he was becoming more and more familiar with today, and when she spoke again there was an air of amusement, acceptance about her...as though she had judged him by sight and sense alone and found him to be, at the least, comparable to what she might have been hoping for. To that, he supposed, he was grateful. But her words in no way set him at ease. "I really ought to kill you for what you and your friends did to my Tower, buuut...I was done with that place already, and if the guards I left weren't strong enough to stop you then they weren't going to be useful to me, anyway. Weakness should be punishable by death...don't you think/ That's the way of this world, the bitter truth of humanity. No matter what pretty things people say, whatever sweet promises they make, when the world goes to s**t you're either the hunter or the hunted. ...I learned that the hard way. You've seen it too, haven't you? Fighting and killing the weak...that's how you've managed to survive this long, don't try to tell me different. It's survival of the fittest...and you, me? Your half-breed friend and the Trickster's puppet too, if you like. We're the fittest to survive."
She stepped forward towards him, confident in her look, her stride...he could sense what she was trying to do to lure him in and he revolted against the idea instinctively. Joining her side would have been to betray everyone that he loved, every ideal that he held dear to his heart. To allow the weak to suffer and die for the profit of the few, strong elite was far too heartless, too cruel. He knew he would never bend to such an ideal, but the question he needed answered was...how bent on that same path was she? Was she beyond redemption/ Could he save her from the wrong Reason before it was too late?
"And what about Isamu? He was your friend before all of this started, wasn't he?" the silver-haired senior asked sharply, not backing down from her approach or agreeing, instead challenging her with a posture that sent the devils surrounding them into a flurry of hisses and whispers, "Do you think he deserves to die because he doesn't meet your fresh new classification for what this world needs? ...What gives you the right to choose for everyone?"
"Of course he deserves to die! When I was weak, I chose to become strong! And Baal Avatar chose me because of that to pass judgment on mankind for their weakness! But that pathetic...that fool was too weak to face up to the reality of this world and decided that rather than owning up to the responsibility of being one of the last survivors of the Conception and choosing a real path forward for this world, he'd use the power of a God for his own stupid fantasy!" she hissed in return, and the amount of venom in her voice took him by surprise, "The world he wants is just a child's daydream! A world where nobody can be hurt? Where everybody is the center of their own, insulated little existence? It's a fantasy! A crock! I don't give a damn about a man who actually fights for something so stupi-"
"You're lying!"
His sharp retort silenced the crosswalk at once, and every demon seemed to hold its breath as if waiting for their master to give them the order to strike. Instead, she seemed taken aback, halfway between screaming and killing him herself.
"What...the Hell did you just say to me?"
"I said you're lying," he answered her sternly, resolutely, "You can say what you want and go on about how much you hate him for being weak, about how being strong gives you the right to punish him for that...but nobody has the right to make that choice for anybody else! And you think that he deserves to die? ...Then did you deserve to die when you first woke up here? Should somebody have just killed you before you became strong?"
She answered coldly, unblinking.
"Yes...they should have."
"You're wrong."
"It doesn't matter...nobody, not even you, can stop me now."
"You're wrong!"
"I'M NOT! I'll kill you...and your tattooed friend if I have to! I'm NOT giving up my Reason! In a world like this, Strength is the only thing that makes sense...the ONLY thing!"
"YOU'RE WRONG!"
"SHUT UP!"
...Suddenly a burst of power smashed into the ground in front of him, and when the smoke cleared a hunk of asphalt had been obliterated by the girl's black arm, pulsating with power, but neither of them had flinched or stricken the other...the staredown never breaking. But the tension in the air was thicker than pea soup. Or peanut butter. (You eat what you like, and I'll eat what I like.)
"Strength is only part of the equation...without compassion, without other people who work with each other, fight for each other, and live protect one another...what's the point of living at all?!" he challenged her daringly, and when she glared back at him he glared right back with all the intensity that he could muster, "This world you're trying to create is a nightmare! Where nobody helps one another...where anybody stronger than you are can dominate your life...do you really want to live in that kind of a world? Wouldn't you rather restore the world that we came from and try to do things better than before? Humanity isn't responsible for what happened here! We can still make a difference and change things! Even if he knew that it was unlikely she would join him...even if she sounded completely unwilling to listen...he had to try to make her see reason. This world wasn't the hopeless, cruel wasteland that she had made it out to be, and the fact that there were still people in this city, in Tokyo, in Okina City all banding together to survive and try to restore the world with their own strength was proof enough that cooperation wasn't useless...it had its place in this world as much as anything and anyone else. He needed to find a way to make her see that...to see the truth that strength was as much a means to protect one another as it was a means for destruction and domination. They were both breathing hard by the time they were done, having shouted at one another enough to exhaust a normal person but still, even knowing that, neither one of them could back down from the other. It was a battle of ideals and wills, and whoever should blink first would be the poorer for their failure. She looked at him incredulously as he shouted on about cooperation and friendship, but he stood firm and was unwilling to let her pass off the Restoration as the fool's hope that she had already deemed Isamu's Reason of Musubi to be. This was real...this was possible. And if she was willing to fight with them...he was sure that there was no way that they could lose!
"You're cracked..." she spat in disbelief, finally breaking the silence as she stood up...but as she looked at him coldly and forced herself to rebel against the pitch that he was selling, he could see the truth as plainly with his eyes as she could feel it within her heart. She was unsure. She didn't know what her answer should be. She had chosen a path, however, and she was sticking to it...right or wrong. He admired it as much as he lamented it. Why couldn't she just see? Why couldn't she admit that there was another way to do this? "I expected more from you. ...I thought, being a normal person who thrived in this world of demons, you might understand my Reason. I guess I was wrong..." And so she declined...but as much conviction and vitriol as she forced into her words, he could see the hesitation in her eye, detect the uncertainty in her voice. She was turning him down, yes, and they would have to fight! But maybe...just maybe...there was hop for her salvation! Maybe in the end...if he could prove to her his strength, prove to her that you could be strong and compassionate...she would finally admit her defeat?
"I'm not sorry. This is what I believe," he told her plainly, ashen eyes locked onto hers and unwavering in their determination, "Humanity is worth saving. It's too early to give up hope, and I will never stop fighting for a future where we can all live together...work together...for peace. That is my Reason."
Not a word passed between them for a moment...and though her eyes soon hardened to steel, for a moment...the briefest of flickers...he could see something within them that confirmed his belief that there was something still redeemable inside of her. ...Hope.
...And in a moment, it was gone.
"You chose this..." she warned him, and with a wave of her hands, the demons began to disperse into the city ominously, looming somewhere nearby in the shadows unseen, "From this moment forward, you and I are enemies...and just like that b*****d Isamu, if I meet you again...I will kill you. ...For your own sake, run away now. Run while you can..."
And with that last warning, she leaped high into the sky...landing on the nearby rooftop and then dashing off into the night. She was gone...but her words lingered in the air, as did the memory of that brief flicker of hope within her eyes...

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"Watching the white-haired girl leap out of sight was something to behold, but he knew that her flight portended a battle in the near future that was going to be emotional, painful, and incredibly tough to win if he wasn't fighting at the very top of his game. Still, she had seen in him something that she wanted to win over to her side, and when he had confronted her with the cold reality of her stance in this War of the Endtimes, he had seen her waver just enough that he wanted to believe that there was something inside of her worth saving. The person she had been before Baal Avatar claimed her body and filled her with the power to pursue the Reason of Yosuga wasn't dead, and what fueled her just as much as her ambition was the pain of what she had suffered, the fear, the hopelessness of this world. If he could show her that there was still hope in the world, still justice, still compassion and people that she could rely upon...that she wasn't as alone as she had been until now...he believed that he could convince her to finally, after the inevitable fight between them, concede that her Reason was wrong. But first, he knew, they would have to fight. And in order to make her see the truth of the matter, see his reason for fighting and understand the decency of it, he was going to have to win. One step at a time...one fight at a time. He clenched his fist and smiled faintly, eyes hardened with determination at the thought.
He had always fought to protect people, to save them from a fate that had befallen them of no choice of their own. This was no different...Chiaki had been thrust into this world without asking for it, without any expectation of what would happen or how she would survive, and she had reacted in a way that was to be expected. She scrapped for power, in fear and despair, and found what she believed was the only means of survival available to her. She believed that this was how she would live and never have to feel that pain again. But pain was always present...in any world...and you had to rely upon those around you in order to endure if you couldn't stand up to it alone. She wasn't alone anymore, either. She didn't have to be alone. All she had to do was embrace the people who had extended their hands to her...those who had bound their Fate to her own. And he would do the same, if the opportunity presented itself to him. He already felt like they were, honestly...and that was why, even though she was leaving him behind for now, that he knew they would meet again. As enemies, yes...but also as friends.
"That only leaves Isamu," the senior thought to himself as he turned away from the retreating girl at last, returning his focus on the city of Oshu and the sights and sounds that surrounded him...this was the dreary city that Isamu and the Reason of Musubi had made their base in, but he hadn't found any sight of their Reason or their Leader since he arrived. Was this to be expected of the Reason of Isolation? "Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"There were times when Soji Seta wondered if there was something wrong with him. If, at the heart of this world of the supernatural and strange that he had become so embroiled in, if something had broken or snapped inside of him that made him so impervious to the uniquely odd circumstances of his life and allowed him to react to things and look at the world in a certain, positive way that other people simply couldn't. Even in the darkest of circumstances, now, he could look to his friends for support...even their memories, the words they had spoken to him in the past, the things they had achieved together...and that support was enough to fuel him to believe that the world could be changed for the better. It was enough that even now, at the end of the world, he had hope in the better nature of humanity and that somehow they would find the strength to band together and combat the forces of Hell and the Trickster that were destroying all they held dear and attempting to seduce those who remained with their sweet promises of freedom, victory, and a world where humanity was the master of its own destiny. Many were likely seduced by them, and many had likely already fallen to their manipulations and joined their forces on this final day of conflict before the end. Those two had initiated this Conception to remake the world in their own image, though their motivations could not have been more different they were both megalomaniac in their will to influence and dominate and rebel against the authority which bound them. It would have been easy to do so, to see the worst in this world and come to his down twisted conclusion. Even many who fought on the side of the Restoration viewed the other Reasons as their sworn enemies, those who they could kill and fight if they needed to. And yet he...
...He was different. He knew others who were like him as well, but it just seemed to rage against the very nature of mankind that he could put the darkness to the side and embrace the hope for a better world for humanity, believe that mankind was capable of being better than they were before, even in the face of so much evidence to the contrary. Many who called him enemy would believe him to be some kind of an oblivious idiot for believing as much, a fantasy-spewing goody-two-shoes who ignored the basic nature of men in lieu of his own romanticized view of the world. It wasn't as though he wasn't aware of that point of view, or even that he sometimes insisted upon and believed in ideals that were so lofty as to be almost insane to many of those around him. But did that mean that somehow he was the one who was broken? Was he the one who detached himself from reality to pursue his ideals? Was he any less human for being able to numb the negativity within him and focus on the positives that made him strong?
...No, he didn't believe that. Because he had proof that people from all different walks of life, with all different motivations and circumstances and personalities...who all had their own problems, their own negative desires, their own shadows...could put the worst about them to the side and work together for a common goal, a greater good. He had seen a girl who felt trapped within her own life, railroaded by Fate into a future that she never asked for, break out of the cage that bound her and search for the path that made the most sense to her...before realizing that the life that she had wanted was the life she had all along. He'd seen a young man bored with a life on the countryside and dying for a little adventure embrace the opportunity for adventure and chaos...only to, in the end, preserve the peace and the average life in the town that he had become so bored with. People were better than their base desires. People could be better than the world around them demanded that they be. And his friends...Yukiko, Yosuke...Chie, Kanji, Rise, Teddie...Naoto and all the others...they were his proof. They were the glue that mended him when he worried that he was broken.

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"The stars were out now over the Northernmost Outpost remaining in the Wastelands that their country had become post the initiation of the Conception, and like a blanket of dark night and twinkling twilight the Senior could see up through the canopy of buildings in the cold city towards that celestial light lingering high above. It was beyond dusk now, with the beginnings of the night settling upon them. But what was amazing to him was just how many of the stars were visible tonight, given the ruined state of the world had filled the skies with enough dust and sediment that seeing through to anything clear...the blue hue of the daytime, the luminous brilliance of the stars at night...had been very difficult. Common sense told him that the winds and the natural climate had moved much of the sediment at the time blocking their view off into the distance, which would likely be replaced by more shortly thereafter...but he took it as a sign of hope instead, reminding he and the people of the country of the beauty of this world, the thing that they were truly fighting for. They were here to fight and create a world where people could live in peace together again, to restore the natural and human-born beauty and goodness of their world. And when the twilight of the world was upon them, this was a sign that the world hadn't ended...only the day before, that the dawn would be upon them in the morning just like any other day, with the sun shining and the potential to change the world within their grasp.
"Time's almost up," the silverette thought aloud as he moved towards the Residential District slowly, eyes peeled for any signs of demons that might put him on the track of the had-clad Reason Leader that he sought to speak with before the final showdown with the Viper. He was almost out of time, however, if defeating Obelyn tonight was his goal...and judging by the days before, it was just as necessary today as it had been then to get this over before midnight dawned. The world would not wait for heroes to stumble upon the ending, but progress as it always had, even unto its own demise and the consumption of mankind by the Wastelands of this world. Obelyn would not wait forever, either...his challenge had been intended for today, to gift them this last opportunity to overcome even himself and have humanity's say in the end of days be heard. He looked in either direction down the roads and saw no demons that might lead him where he wanted to go, but as he turned a corner towards an Apartment Complex with dim candlelight visible in one of the windows and demons lingering on the outside...likely, he reasoned, the haven he'd heard about before from the people he saved...he felt a presence nearby that caught his attention once more. It was faint, in the shadows of a warehouse at the border of the Industrial and Residential, but that he had sensed it at all felt to him both a sign and an invitation.
Glancing over towards the gate of the Warehouse, a flash of pale skin ducking inside of the building told him that his senses hadn't failed him...somebody was inside of that warehouse, somebody waiting for him...and ambush or not, whatever was planned he couldn't simply ignore it when it was his only lead to meeting with and talking to Isamu about abandoning the Reason of Musubi and fighting for the Restoration.
He had to take the bait, however dangerous. And he'd hope that just like with Chiaki, it was an invitation to talk rather than a trap to take his life.Quote: 118 Tokens

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"The more he thought about it, the more obvious it was that this Warehouse was a trap; the dark skies and the added obscurity of the lack of electricity in the city was enough to make the inside of the building likely completely pitch black. Unless there were candles of some sort on the inside, he knew that he wouldn't be able to see whoever he was searching for, or if there were any demons that were waiting to take advantage of his handicapped state. And the ominous way that he had been invited...just the feeling of a nearby power and a flash of a pale body luring him to follow inside was a trademark bait-and-lure tactic to set him up for whatever attack was planned to eliminate him once he got inside. In order to proceed down this path, then, Soji knew that he needed to be as careful as he could be to avoid the worst that could happen. He considered the options that he had at his disposal to avoid being taken off-guard by whomever was baiting him, and he rifled through his Inventory in order to choose something that would serve as that deterrent against a sudden attack. But rifling through his pockets on revealed the Talismans, the strange Nodes filled with power, the shards of what appeared to be some kind of a Mask, and the little slips of paper with a number on them for some kind of a Code? None of those were going to be useful once he was inside of the Warehouse. Even the Power Nodes only glowed on the inside, and since he didn't know what sort of power resided within them, it was a danger to put one of them at the risk of being destroyed. He didn't want to bring down the entire block with him if he were to be overwhelmed, right?
That left only a single option, and it wasn't the Crests within his pocket that Youmu had gifted him combined with the ones that he had managed to farm on his own. He could have attempted to rely upon one of his demons, but that might have been taken as an act of aggression...it also left his demon vulnerable to attack if he should take his eye off of the ball for even a moment. He wouldn't put Nebiros or Fenrisulfr at risk like that, even if they could handle it. Instead, what he needed was...well, a candle, wasn't it? Like the Apartment Complex down the way, a candle to light the interior of the black Warehouse would help him to see where he was going and be aware of any potential ambushes. But he didn't have any candles on him. Did he?
"Wait...what about...?" his eyes widened in realization, and on call, he willed the golden Candelabrum of Eternity into his hand and let the flames flicker dimly in the twilight, illuminating the space around him in the street. His lips curled into a smirk...now this was something he could work with. Something useful other than a fight coming from this haunted candlestick was all that he could ask for and more. He held it aloft in front of him and started towards the Warehouse, moving closer to its doors...before veering off into the alley beside it, intent on finding a secondary entrance rather than the obvious first one that the one baiting him inside had entered in before. Better to be safe than sorry, after all, and while they might have expected him to bring a light source of some kind (his phone was another option, but he couldn't risk that running out of battery or being broken at this point), they might not anticipate that he would loop around to another entrance, giving him the potential to flip the element of surprise in his favor. So that's what he was going to do, he thought, as he moved to the far back-right corner of the warehouse and quietly slipped the door open, ducking inside without making much of a sound that might alert his pursuers.
Once inside, he let the Candelabrum light up the single corridor leading to another door not far ahead which no doubt opened up into the main space of the warehouse. If he could find a ladder to the upper level of the warehouse that would be deal, to give him a better view of what might be waiting for him, but he didn't imagine waiting that long to show himself was going to encourage whoever lured him in to stand around waiting. He had a small window here to work in. He decided that whatever the risk might be, he would see if he could sneak up on his counterpart on the lower level.
Moving to the door on the inside, he turned the nob slowly to avoid any audible click...and guarding the light guiding his way from extending too far in front with his hand, he entered into the open space of the warehouse to find out just what was awaiting him within.Quote: 128 Tokens

"Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"It was as dark as expected in the warehouse, but with his Candelabrum lighting the way forward, he could see enough to know that the crowd of demons that he had anticipated...if not expected...wasn't anywhere to be seen within. Instead there were plenty of half-filled boxes of some product that had likely long-since gone bad in here, never moving to their original destinations when the world had fallen. It was remarkable that the warehouse was even still standing, but it seemed that while demons were certainly numerous here in Oshu City, the Northernmost Outpost had been one of the cities more spared from the destruction of the Conception when compared with others. It was a curious fact to note, but he couldn't really explain it. Even the Palace in Tokyo had suffered damage that they had been forced to repair when Koichi took the Imperial Capitol back from the demons, but here there were a fair number of buildings that were still fully in-tact. In Inaba, many of the smaller buildings that hadn't been earthquake proofed had been the major victims of the Conception. Junes was damaged, but still mostly standing. It was all very hit-or-miss...but when you considered the large scale damage there, the massive damage in Tokyo, and the sparse damage he had seen in Oshu City (the school being the only building he had been to that had suffered major damage from the Conception itself)...it made you wonder just who or what was guarding this city from the danger that had befallen it.
But that was a mystery to solve for another time; he moved towards the front door of the Warehouse having not managed to find even the one who had lured him in here. He stood there with the gate before him and suddenly he felt a chill run down the back of his neck, the sudden revealing of a presence not far behind him. If they had wanted, he thought, they could have stricken him right then and there and he would have struggled not to take significant damage. His body revolted against the feeling at once, turning sharply...and there, within the firelight of his Candelabrum, was a face that he had been trying to see for the better part of the evening. Now within the darkness of the night, the candlelight of this demonic flame, he could see the pale skin reflected in the dim flickering. He could see the hollow eyes that lined the many, wailing faces which now formed the upper torso of the hat-clad young man that looked back at him coldly. And that hat...not unlike the one that Naoto wore so well back in Inaba...it was so easily identifiable who this was standing in front of him. But why he had lured him in here and not attacked him...? That remained a question to which he had no answer.
"You're full of openings, you know," the young man looked at him coldly, speaking in a way that was both threatening and a warning for future encounters, "If you are the best the Restoration has to offer, then I was right to turn my back on that fairy tale. Soji Seta..."Quote: 128 Tokens
