John smiled as the butler left. Whilst his main hobby was sculpting, he had grown fond of another past-time during his hiatus away from the Stadium - gardening.

He blinked as the butler exited the windmill only a few minutes after he'd disappeared within it. John had been crouching at the edge of the flowerbed to check the soil, see what the pH level was and what kind of nutrients the butler/gardener put into it. He quickly spat out clump he'd put into his mouth and dusted his gloves off, as if he was suddenly caught out - ever the barbarian.

John noted Maximos' weary disposition, the odd clothing, the bloody nails. Obviously he'd come at a bad time...but then, when was his timing ever appropriate?

He didn't think of whether Maximos would attack him or not. If Maximos wanted him dead, he would have done it days ago, when John was trying desperately to recover...or follow him after cutting off his arm...or attacked him straight from the time the door to the windmill had opened.

He looked down at his hands. Those massive hands...capable of so much. He then looked at Maximos' hands. The slender fingers, so small...capable of so much.

Then he looked Maximos straight in the eyes. "I know you don't like speeches, so I'll try to keep it plain. I'm sorry for attacking you like i did. It was not my place to judge you, or your actions, and i regret everything i said and did. I have no excuse, and if you wish me gone i will go, but..."

He paused. This was the point of no return. Maximos would either allow him to continue, wait for him to continue - or tell him to go, apology accepted or not.

This would determine the rest of Tomorrow's future and it's untimely end at the hands of Maximos.

Granted Walter had believed that putting soil in ones mouth was an odd pastime, but he was there to serve not to judge.

Maximos however ignored that entirely. His black and white eyes looked directly into Tomorrow's. He had no where near the senses of his butler, but he did indeed have senses. Sincerity, realism, or even mind control each had a different hue and form on a mans soul. And as the saying goes, the eyes are the window to the soul.

He would not interrupt Tomorrow. The man had come a very long distance and to do such a thing would be completely pointless. If he didnt want to hear the man out, he could have just stood inside and instructed Walter to send him away. The look on his face did not falter however, he stared directly into Tomorrow's face, a calm flatness on his own. His right arm twitched twice.

But...Tomorrow wasnt done. A "but", meant an opposition. It meant that perhaps something that was going to follow would possibly cross and counter over something that had already said. He would let Tomorrow continue.

"But...i realise i may not have much time left anymore." He finished. They both knew what he meant.

John looked over to Walter, smiling at him with a wink and giving him a discreet thumbs-up over the state of his garden. At this altitude and so close to the sea, the pH should have been more alkaline then normal, too salty to keep such beautiful flowers in full bloom. Although, if Walter wished for a much better yeild, he should concentrate less on the level of nitrogen in the soil and more about the magnesium - the flowers looked too good. Too much health was just as bad as too little - the butler was beginning to risk the loss of his entire garden if he didn't watch how much urea he put on them.

But John wasn't here to talk gardens. At least, not until his business with Maximos was done.

After giving Walter his approval John looked back to Maximos. "I dont know why you gave me that ultimatum back at the forest, but you've taught me my lesson. This world doesn't need me. I dont think you're in any hurry, but i'd rather not be chased down by you - so i'm accepting my fate. I only want a day or two to look over this world one last time - with you by my side."

That was an odd request. Why would John bother asking Maximos along with him if he was just going to let him kill him afterwards?
PostPosted: Thu May 17, 2007 3:31 pm

Walter nodded. He really did not understand what the significance or meaning of an erect thumb was. He had seen that symbol in his few ventures down to the surface, but he could tell it was not an attack. And so he returned a nod, and a smile.

There was nothing strange about it. He had accepted his fate, there was no need for hostility. Maximos was his friend after all. It seemed he wanted to have the friendship again, for just a while longer as he said goodbye to world. Or maybe, just maybe, he wanted a chance to prove his worth before giving him, hoping to stay the proverbial scythe.

At first, in all honesty. Maximos had no idea what to say, or how to say it. How do you explain the "rules" of life and death. The creed a Reaper. Without explaining the rules of life and death, and exposing the existence of the Reapers. His eyes shut, for a moment as he took in a deep breath, holding it, before slowly letting it out. His eyes opened again, still locked on old friends.

There was a pause, for just a few seconds.

As you wish...

He said simply in return. There was something on his tone, something off, something other than the flat clam of earlier. But it seemed deep enough to remain hidden. Departure plans, the like, those were left for Tomorrow to reveal or make. Maximos was simply coming along for the ride, still slightly cautious of the situation as a whole.

When do we leave?

"I'd like to do it immediately, whenever you're ready. John replied, shrugging with his hands in his pockets.

"Although if you're busy at the moment, or want some time to prepare, i can always stay and give that guy over there some pointers in gardening." He said with a grin and a wink to Walter again.

Maximos looked back to the house, and the back to Walter. The butler simply nodded before being winked at by Tomorrow. Maybe Tomorrow had something in his eye, he was certainly an odd fellow.

No, it can wait. I'll pack and get changed. I believe, Walter would like to hear your opinions about his garden.

And with that Maximos turned and made his way back into the house, leaving Walter and Tomorrow to talk.

~- About 30 Minutes Later -~

Maximos emerged from the wooden door, peeling it open with his right hand. A small back pack tossed over his right shoulder. He wore more formal attire for the situation. A long black hooded jacket, its buttons were tied from the neck down to about the waist, the rest was left open for the wind to take. He wore a set of black boots, beneath his long black dress pants.

His hand were visible slipping from the long sleeves of his jacket. His right swayed beside him, entirely covered in a black leather glove. His left, held onto the strap of his backpack, covered in a fingerless black glove.

It was very similar to the outfit he wore in HoH. He walked directly up to Tomorrow, his disposition seemed to have lightened a bit. His voice seemed right, it held a hint of its old friendly nature. But the smile was still missing.

Shall we?

He said, to the giant before him.

"...so then the soil had gotten some oxygen into it, and - ah, there he is!" John said with a smile, standing to greet Maximos.

He'd been crouched within the garden, digging into the dirt, showing Walter how to arerate the soil so the flowers would get some oxygen to their roots, instead of just leaving the soil untouched and potentially starving the roots of oxygen. Flowers, and plants in general, were fickle, annuals especially. Flowers like tulips needed a lot of care and attention - even above the obvious magic that Maximos was using to keep them alive.

Besides, any fool could make something live with magic. Where was the challenge in that?

"We shall!" John replied with a small smile, a little worried that Maximos wasn't being as bubbly as usual - but then, he had no need to be.

It was good Maxi was taking a pack. John didn't need much, obviously - his webbing held everything he needed.

"We'll go to...the beach. Follow me!" John said with a nod and a grin before winking and giving another thumbs up to Walter - hoping the old man would put it into practise like John had told him to - before turning and, with a few long strides, leapt off the side of the island, hurtling through the sky like a missile shot from a cannon.

Walter nodded, surprised by the "Barbarian's" knowledge of horticulture. He would definitely have to put those tips into effect. Into effect, indeed using life leaf to help keep the garden healthy was cheating. And this would give him a bit more to do on those busy afternoons when the chores were finished early.

Maximos quirked an eyebrow. That pause, it made it sound a bit like Tomorrow was making this up as he went along. But some of the greatest plans were formed that way. He seemed otherwise agreeable. His smile and usual demeanor would return in time. And time was something they certainly had.

The Thunder God leaped from the island, nearly tipping it off its axis. And Maximos followed closely after. He simply stepped off the edge of the island, the streaks of rich violet overcoming the lunoc runes in his boots and expelling that liquid substance from beneath the soles of his feet rocketing him through the air like a black blur. It took him a second or two to catch up to Tomorrow, but very soon he was directly beside his old friend. Walter would take care of the home, he had done it for years before, and he would do it again.

Maximos
Walter's eyes squinted for a moment at the display. Did she....see these two as the same? Had her new form granted her oneness with the darkness as well as fire? Together there was no more utterly destructive force. Together the two formed the stereo type of pure evil...darkness and fire...the symbols of hell.

And she held both in her hands like childish toys. She had no perception of the potential of her power.

For a moment, Walter felt pity for his Master, and for the weight Maximos had accepted unto himself. For now he would do all that he could to assist. He reached up his left, placing it above the golden fire in one Teira's hands.

This is fire.

His right, moved over the other hand, hovering above the black orb.

This is darkness. It seems the Lady has been gifted with two elements.

His hands slid underneath hers, gently resting his hands against the back of hers. His curiosity pushing him to explore.

Now, try to place them together...

He said, gently easing both hands toward each other. Dark is able to mimic any element allowing it to work well with all if the practitioner is able to control them both. Her body knew one, her mind and soul new the other...she as a natural at both...but what would result was up to her.

"Not get... just have... like fire..."

She looked frazzled as she tried to figure out the words to explain. But she didn't really know how to since she couldn't really remember. If it were Sierra before him and not her clueless alter-ego Teira... she would explain that she was born from a marriage of the two elements and that both came naturally to her, each existing within her.

It had been the darkness that consumed her and left her isolated as Maximos found her. And it had been fire that leaped to her defense when he startled her initially.

Frowning and simply wishing to make Walter happy, she did as he asked. Letting him ease her hands together, she passed the ball of darkness o'er top of the flame, and let it 'drip' almost trickling into the flickering fire. The flame darkened, growing black instead of the brilliant gold until it burned the ebony of nothingness, shimmering with hints of gold here and there.

She bit her lip and looked at him for approval, she didn't get what the big deal was... but if it meant Walter would praise her as before, she hoped she'd done well.

She melded the two so easily. Perhaps that was the scariest part. It was the easy at which she did, how natural it seemed to flow for her. She had no defined control, no real methodology it was instinct. And with such natural control, and with such instinct...

...The damage she could do was beyond measure.

Fire...darkness...it was destruction given form. And until she had absolute control, there was a threat of everything and anything she touched becoming the same as that five foot circle in the Lunching Room. It would never be her intention but...it had a chance of destroying her from the inside out.

Walter could see it, though he adjusted his monocle he could see it even without the small lens. Her had been through something horrible, what he say deep insider her was very small, and very weak. Like a shard, or a half torn away from his home, that managed just barely to survive on its own. The stress of two conflicting personalities was just something she would not be able to withstand. And the strain of the Soul Lock he had placed on her would soon be too much.

She had a cut, she didnt need a cast. She needed stitches, and a bandage.

Very good, Lady Teira!

He said with a smile to her bandage. Teira, something to cover the pain beneath. He needed to be careful, he needed to give her something that would help her, and yet not halt her from growing when the time was right. Stitches...a binding.

We'll come back to this later...alright?

There was no to explain to her what he needed to do. Though hopefully, she would understand when the day came. He gently flipped his right hand, showing Teira his open palm. And on it, lay a small black ring. It was a simple loop of metal with a red and black stone on its top. The shiny metal sparkling ever so gently in the glimmer of the water.

This is for you, a reward for you excellent work!

Her eyes went huge and round as saucers as he presented her with the bit of shiny. A REWARD! She'd made him happy, really happy it seemed! She reached out and grasped his hand gently, timidly almost inspecting the ring as if she daren't touch something so wonderful. Her mouth formed a small 'o' of wonderment as she ooohed and ahhhed over it.

"Pretty!~"

Clutching his hand hesitantly, she beamed up at him, such joy lighting up those huge almond shaped eyes, as if he had just taken the stars from the sky itself and was giving them to her.

"A reward? For me Walter?"

She fidgeted where she stood, shifting from foot to foot as she fought the urge to scoop up the ring, half-fearing Walter would change his mind and take it back. But she held fast and chewed her lip as she smiled hopefully, waiting and watching the old butler with trepidation.

She was like a small girl! So very happy, so very giddy over such a small thing. It was truly something to behold, and it placed an honest smile on Walter's aged face. Few things made the Butler truly smile, true simple happiness was one.

He felt a bit bad for what had to be done. But he knew he was doing it for her honest survival.

Indeed it is, Lady Teira.

He tilted his hand letting the ring roll forward into his finger tips, and then scooped it up in between his index finger and thumb. The two stones glinting in the dim light of the cavernous basement.

Would the Lady like to try it on?

She squeaked exitedly and nodded her head rapidly,

"Ou may I Walter?!"

And with that she held out her hand to him, so he could slip the ring onto her delicate hand.
PostPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 10:41 pm

But of course!

He said, ever so gently grasping her hand with his left. His fingers very softly holding hers in place, and then with a smooth delicate motion of his right hand, he placed the ring on her finger. Of the two stones, a faint glow over come the black one.

And the deed was done.

It was such a simple deed. But when you reach Walter's age most things once viewed as complex take on a much simpler overtone than they once had. This binding was extremely simple. Teira had been placed in the forefront, and her elder persona was placed firmly beneath the bandage. It was all entirely painless.

Unfortunately, the memories which she had most recently gained from her recent fracture would be lost. The last few moments would likely only be recalled through most childish eyes.

The ring would remain, until such time as Teira's older self was ready to awaken. At that fateful time, the red stone would glow. And the ring would take on a new purpose, keeping that mind in place. Which is to say, once her older self had returned she would find that her mind was very much her own. Attempts at control, replacement, or possession would most often be met with complete failure.

Walter had just bestowed upon her quite the trinket. But for the time being, to Teira, it would probably simply be a very pretty shiny ring.

"Miyyaaaaa!"

Squealing with delight, she held her hand out at arms length and wiggled her fingers, letting the light flash off the stones, winking in the light. She beamed up at him as she pounced him, wrapping her arms about him tightly in a thrilled hug.

"Teira loves!"

And just like that, the memories that had begun to creep back into her head retreated, a solid door slammed closed on them as her eyes softened, glowing with unbridled innocence.

The awakening process had been stopped and reversed.

For now, Sierra had been given a reprieve. As Teira, she was simply a child who was seeing everything as if for the first time. She had been given a second chance at innocence. Something she had been robbed of far too early in life.
