"To enter, sacrifice all that you hear?" She read the sign on the door. Shaking her head, she passed through it. She had to, there was no other choice. Inside she saw many others, saw them gesturing to each other. Some even looked like they were shouting. Nebi couldn't hear any of it. She couldn't even hear her own breathing. "Well, I guess the door meant that literally." She tried to say. She could feel the words vibrating in her throat, but that was all. Feeling vulnerable without her hearing, she continued up the stairs, looking in all directions to make sure no one and nothing snuck up on her. She had to calm down. Panic never helped anybody. Forcing her body to slow, she began counting steps. Somewhere around the fiftieth step, the Voice spoke to her, filling her head with painful sound. It sounded like a disappointed parent. "You dare take the powers of the others, when I created you, gave you purposed, and promised you a Kingdom. You dare raise your punitive claws against me? Even reforged you will never be on the same level that I am.""Shut up!" She shouted back, the words not reaching her own ears, but hopefully the Voice. "You didn't create me, I'm real, damn you!" She was, and she would prove it. Even if she had to kill the voice herself. She walked on. So many Jackin' stairs! Blake was sure this was another piece of torture implemented by the Voice. Just to punish interlopers for their "audacity", for daring to bare their fangs and claws at the Voice. Go rot in the abyss! He thought irately when he heard the Voice complain again, taking a momentary break at the top of the stairs. Wait... Jackin'? Where... who the heck was Jack? Probably the real him, the Original Blake, would know. Not the Fragment Blake... Holding back a keening sound of sadness and rage, Blake stepped through the doorway leading to the second floor. An endlessly rising staircase didn't seem so bad--unless it wasn't real either. The Voice rang in Evan's mind as he passed the halfway point, making him stop and cringe at the disappointment in its tone. "I don't," he murmured, his voice inaudible even to himself. He cleared his throat before straightening a bit and trying again, only to find that he really couldn't hear himself speak. That was...troublesome. "I don't want a kingdom," he thought instead, "I don't want power. I don't want to be on the same level as you. I just want...to see something through to the end, for once." Something within his chest relaxed at the admission, and he continued upward feeling a little lighter for it.
