"I..." Tony twitched, his mouth open in mid-answer. He closed it. "Hm. Why can't it be both? We can grab the cake, we can grab the rocket... we'll head back to my place and you know..." he shot his friend a salacious look, "see what happens from there."

Bruce smirked. He wasn’t gonna lie, he missed being blatently hit on even though he was sure it wasn’t going anywhere because Tony, for all his flirting still didn’t seem interested. “sounds good" he nodded.

"No, but it /is/ possible to hate what it does to you, if you have too much," Tony teased his pal as they hurried along the sidewalk over to the bakery; he pinched Bruce's tummy.

"Excuse you, I’m fluffy, fluffy is awesome! I make a great pillow." Bruce bluffed, slightly, well more than slightly ashamed of the flab he had still managed to retain after months of inadequate feeding. Compared to tony… Well he looked like crap. Compared to tony, anyone looked like crap.

"That works too," the teenager grinned and he slapped the counter a couple of times to get the attention of the cashier. "Hey, carve us off a slice of that guy right there--" he pointed to the chocolate cake-- "and put him in a to-go box, will ya?" Soon he was handing over a five dollar bill (and putting the rest in the tip cup) in exchange for the slice in a clear plastic container, along with two plastic spoons. "Look at that!" Tony exclaimed, "Almost too pretty to eat, huh?"

Bruce laughed, “yeah, sure." he said awkwardly shoving his hands into his pockets. He totally got that Tony had money and that he himself was broke, but that didn’t mean he didn’t feel bad for letting Tony pay for everything.

"Smooth one there, bookworm," Tony teased, getting the spoonful into Bruce's mouth on the second attempt. He couldn't help but be reminded of months ago when the two of them had been at the doughnut shop and Bruce had decorated his nose with jelly. It made him blush slightly-- here they were back at square one again, and he had no idea if Bruce was interested in him anymore or interested in resuming where their 'relationship' had left off, just shortly after they'd agreed to be boyfriends...

Bruce snorted, “cake. Yum" he mumbled happily. God he missed this, it was nice just being… Well whatever they were. He was sure eventually they would talk about it„ but he wasn’t going to push it.

"What? Important? No," Tony strung together in a flurry as he reached back to rub his neck. "No, when do I ever have something important to say?"

Bruce rolled his eyes, “everything you say is important to me. Now spit it out." he demanded, “it can’t be that bad, unless you murdered someone or hooked up with like… Loki while I was gone."

Tony frowned now too. "Bruce. You know, all you gotta do is ask me to break up with her and I totally will." He stuttered immediately after saying it, "I-I mean, if /you/ wanna get back together, that is. I wouldn't break up with her if you didn't wanna hook back up..." he trailed off into an awkward laugh. This was definitely another one of his 'smooth' moments; he resisted the urge to facepalm.

Bruce frowned “I’m not a home wrecker Tony. I didn’t expect you to wait for me or anything." he mumbled, “I like pepper, she’s sweet. I’m not just gonna screw that up regardless of what I want." he took a breath. " look, I should go. I have, stuff to do. I’ll catch up with you whenever."

Tony's lower lip trembled, but he gave a small, "Yeah, okay..." looking down at the pavement. Bruce obviously didn't want anything to do with him now, so he should just let him go. He'd lived the past nine months without him, without even knowing if he'd ever come back, so really, what should he care? He could make do. He hiked his messenger bag up on his shoulder and turned for the park, only pausing once to look back Bruce's way.

Bruce’s heart had taken up residence in the pit of his stomach, he stood there a minute, trying to think of how to explain. He opened his mouth to speak before Tony turned back around to look at him. All ability to think trough anything was lost at the look of dissipointment on tony’s face. It was replaced instead with him stepping forward and pressing their lips together harshly. It wasn’t tenative or sweet as their kisses had been before his disappearence. It was all teeth and he pulled away much too quickly,overwhelmed by panic. “I missed you." he said before turning around and rushing off.
