Tsuki Tanaka, age sixteen and barely of legal gambling age in the region of Kanto, walked in with five Gengar Tokens he had found squished between two couch cushions and a dream. A dream that required a slot machine, time, and the odds to be ever so slightly in his favor. “Hehehe…” he snickered, walking past a now out of date cardboard cutout of the Snagem known as Darts. He took a seat. Today would go down in history as the day this teenager ruined the Snag Mall economy and use the money to buy himself a mansion made out of many miniature mansions.
He inserted a coin.

“Oh god-“ Tsuki cursed, smacking the slot machine he was sitting at harshly as his bet went odd when he said even. “Don’t you dare mess with me now, I’ve been waiting for this for WEEKS! Weeks, I tell you!” He said, inserting another coin. Maggie, his ever present Magby who was atop his shoulder, gave him a look.
“What?” He asked before betting even again.

Tsuki inhaled. “Arceus guide my hand, and make it STRONG Lord Arceus, so that I might remind this machine of its place Lord.” He said, shooting a prayer to the closest analog to a god he had. Sure, odds twice in a row was a one in four chance, but odds three time in a row? That was almost a mathematical anomaly.

“Yes! Ahahahahaha, yes!” Tsuki cried out, too young to realize that this was probably how deep rooted addictions to gambling were formed. It didn’t matter if the three tokens he won brought him back to the five he had currently started with. No. What mattered was that he won. Now, the machine offered to let him double his money, but he decided against this… for now. Now he wanted to ride this high safely. With care. With-

Feeling a high unlike anything he had felt before, Tsuki nodded victoriously as the machine gave him an even number. Even now, he was wondering what he’d be able to buy. A motorbike? That Shiny Porygon? Two motorbikes? He rubbed his hands together and gave an evil grin at the possibilities. The trainer had felt like he had come up short so many times on the Path of Legends, feeling sometimes like a hindrance instead of how he should have been. But maybe, on this Path of Gambling, he could redeem himself.
Tsuki inserted one coin this time and bet even once again. Two evens in a row was fair- but again thrice was an anomaly. “Big money!”
(Went from 3 to 8 ((won 4 and +1)). Betting one on even.)

Tsuki exhaled. A failure. This was fine, this was normal- natural even. But why did it feel so awful? He shook his head and stuffed that feeling where his family’s grief counselor told him not to stuff all of the other bad feelings he had been having. No. Tsuki Tanaka would HAVE this day and he would make it his… a word he was raised not to say!
He bet even again with a single coin inserted. The trainer pat the slot machine gentle-like. Good slot machine… good slot machine…

“Woo!” Tsuki raised his fists in the air he claimed another victory. Betting only even on this machine seemed like a sure enough strategy. Maybe that was why old people were always seated in them and could somehow afford to own their own homes? He cracked his knuckles as he inserted two Gengar Tokens now, deciding that nine would be his line when to start gambling more aggressively.

Feeling like such a natural at this gambling thing, Tsuki wondered why people ever bothered to pretend like it was some kind of medical affliction (which, to be clear, it is). Well. Not like it was his problem. He took his winnings and counted his total coins. Betting two brought him down to seven. But he won so he got four more tokens plus an additional. So… he was at twelve! Nice.
He’d gamble on thirds when he got past the 18 mark he decided. So he chose to opt out for now and bet again on even.

“Right. Riririririririright.” Tsuki said, readjusting his seat as he lost this round and went down to 11 tokens total. This was why he didn’t bet on three’s. Sure the payout was crazy… amazing even… but no! He had some self control! He might have been making bets with no clear objective in mind but he’d be damned if he wouldn’t be efficient at it. He locked eyes with the Gengar hybrid cardboard cutout.
They really needed to update this place.

Aha, that was more like it. Tsuki looked over at the prize counter. Even with his now 13 tokens, he still couldn’t get anything. Shame. He got up and stretched himself to straighten out his back, realizing he had been sitting like this for an hour now. Sheesh.
“But still, I must go on.” He said to the Magby, who rolled her eyes as her surrogate brother sat down and once again bet on even.
