Freya's eyes opened wide as the hand turned into an entire person, and an entire person managed to get her on her feet and out of her cage without much help from her. In fact, he had to drag her out of the cage for the most part, and when she found herself in front of a broken generator, with other students escaping their cages, she finally stumbled to her feet and leaned against Mort.
"What.. we are.." Her eyes thinned, and she looked behind her to see her cage. Her prison. The very spot where she'd given up.
"Free?"
She turned her eyes back to Mort, looking up at the strange, unknown face. Her expression was so innocent, so filled with forbidden hope, that it could have broken the coldest of hearts.
"Where is everyones?"

The story thus far.. Inside: Students had been caught by hunters in various and mostly underhanded ways. After a near loss of the kelpie, Calder, to weapon transformation, and then a strange rewinding of time, the captives soon found themselves alone to suffer the happy but painful hope of rescue together. And rescuers did come, after many searches for the cage's key cards, the rescuers took matters into their own hands, and sacrificing their own health, destroyed the hunters' generator. A bright blue light filled the room, leaving students feeling refreshed and energetic. Was this finally it? Were they finally okay? And what was going on outside? Outside:
Hunter trainees and students were taken to a room where time was held at a standstill. When they were released, they found themselves confronted with a very familiar scene: the hunter back yard encampment and a recently captured Soul Harvester. This was not a simple case of deja vu, but rather a do-over created through a deal between the Harvester and the mysterious Clockwork. The senior hunters appear to have no idea that time was manipulated in such a manner.
A battle began to take place, and the students, having run through this particular warzone before, now had a much easier time of it. But before things could really heat up...the Hunter Trainees got an new command, via text, and were transported out of the area for what was revealed to be an ambush on the other students who were taken through through the door of Space.
The benefits of going back and changing the past can be high, as are the risks. In this version of events, it was not Caelius to meet the Soul Harvester on the field as she was freed, but Dr. H and his assistant. Rather than meet her head on, power for power, the doctor took advantage of a moment of weakness to behead her, in the hopes that their portable containment unit could hold the Harvest long enough to fully contain her. But their are certain creatures in any world that should not be bound, and instead of holding her, it fully destroyed her instead.
Alone on the field against a mob of nightmare creatures, Dr. H and Clarice summoned the help of Moon Squad 12 to hold off the assault until Caelius returned with the trainees. Separately, the squad members are nothing too difficult, but their defensive coordination has created a difficult wall for those trying to fight their way into the tent. Others have sought to use stealth to sneak in the back way, but only a handful have made it through without attracting the doctor or his assistant's rather painful attentions.
A bright light burst from the tent and filled the field, giving students a renewed and energetic feeling.
What exactly happened here and what does it mean for the hunters and students? TENT ROUND: XCages open. Generator down...could this really...be it? The tent now only had other students, damaged equipment, and unlocked cages. If they looked out into the field, they would find it in like condition. No hunters in sight. In the back of the tent, a small discreet LCD window lit up to display 59:99Across the field, a strange gray colour now covered most of the house, with small tendrils beginnning to reach across the field. But for now? Right at this moment? Congratulations, students of Amityville Academy, you have won a major victory over a powerful opponent. Now go say hi to your friends. TENT ROUND : X RULES: - You MAY use Pumpkin Pills for this gauntlet run. - Pins are still a little wonky, thanks to the FEAR energy from the Soul Harvester's Final Death: you are free to rp out your students Natural form or regular student form (but the rolls and results are still the same). Make sure to clearly mention in your third post what your character looks like (natural or sealed), or a brief idea of it so the Hunters know how to explain it while they are targeting! - BOOS: YOU HAVE THE SAME OPTIONS AS THE STUDENTS. - The field is now accessible to anyone.

The hunchback wobbled uncertainly as the lights suddenly faded, electricity jumping around his battered patchwork brain still making it difficult to focus, but... right. Finish the Task at Hand. He managed to get in... between the lot of them they had crushed the glowing generator, the doors popped open, they were there, their friends were there, Miss Freya was already unfurling from the room... He could go drag Barth and Calder out into uncertainty, or he could sort out a plan of action... He got in, now to get them out safely, even if they could walk. (He highly doubted it in Barth's case.)
They have each other, a bit of his brain flared up in the back of his head like another stray spark that surprised him, what's another few minutes? He rummaged in his satchel for his small tool kit, limping over to the generator to examine it intently. Maybe they could use something, salvage something...
Things that were broken were always the more beautiful. You could see each Part and Piece and how they once had gone together... and Barth would want to take some home, he was certain... and who knew how long they had before the enemy came charging in. Just find a door or panel and follow the wires...

And it really did strike him, those eyes, those blue eyes encircled by ruffled feathers. Even had he lost his glasses, Mort would not have been able to be blind to it. "Everyones . . . the e-everyones are here," he replied with a nod, still keeping that smile up somehow. But that expression of unadulterated hope made him want to cry - something he had been holding back this entire field trip since the trouble started.
He blinked several times, and then began to inch them forward towards the tent flap.
"Here n' outside. Team waits for you all," Mortimer continued, his voice getting stronger. The breaking of the cages had to mean something: it had to mean everyone would reunite, right? It just had to.
That was how video games worked. Go in, save the prisoners, get the big reward, party gathers once more. And a level up. That was sorta how he felt now, after the reinvigoration of his FEAR from the machine's shut down.
Supporting the valkyrie as he did, this was the first time all trip long that Mort felt remotely heroic. It did him so good confidence building, for who knew what laid ahead?
"W-Was scary to get here . . . Big ponies breathe fire on hunters. But prob'ly scarier be in cage, huh?" he said, babbling out the rest of his nervous energy. "But good guys always win. Always. So if get scared again, remember yes?"

((Entering from the gauntlet))
Quickly stepping in through the tent, Shun paused briefly to see that everyone had already been freed. Well that was a good sign. A number of them were really looking worse for wear though, especially Roch. What the hell had they been doing in here to cause the damage?
He didn't speculate that for long as he soon noticed something in the back light up. From where he stood, he couldn't quite tell what it was. The Reaper could go examine it in a bit, but first...
"The hunters all retreated in a hurry," he informed. There was a hint of disappointment there. Perhaps it was the lack of bloodshed on the part of the humans, "I think we may have some bigger issues at hand, though. Something strange is going on outside..."

Mort's encouraging words and continued support almost had her convinced, but as soon as they reached the tent flap she started to pull away, wrapping her arms around one of Mort's and pulling him back. "No." She whispered harshly. "No, not ready." She had given up, in that cage. She had given up on everyone, so easily. She knew that outside of that tent, fighting to get here, were people who cared. People who didn't deserve to be given up on so easily. People like Herryk. She tugged Mort back, and clung to him, shaking. "Please, just, just waits.."

The tugs weren't noticed until just before his foot could pass the threshold of the tent, when her words emphasized the odd sense that he was not moving as fast as he could be. Blinking again, he zombie gave her a confused look. "Not ready? Mrrokay. Just say word."
Simple as that. The shaking, the clinging, he didn't have to ask. Mort could assume that whatever they had suffered there before the rescuers had shown up was bad enough. And he knew that feel, bro. He knew that feel of not wanting to see teammates after something happened.
Patting her back awkwardly (but gently all the same), he watched as the reaper boil from before came in with a report. Jack . . . Jack darn it. Darn it all to heck. Was there no such thing as a reprieve? No basement to retreat to to cover? He almost protectively held the valkyrie closer, frowning at the reaper. "Strange like what? No hunters means good, yes?"
What else could be in this place?

Freya shivered in Mort's arms, looking up when Shun walked in. Her eyes followed him, but she couldn't follow what he was saying. She put her head on Mort's arm, and rubbed her eyes with one fist. Then she looked up at the boil, and realization dawned on her face. "Aiya.. don't knows yehr name." She didn't even know him at all.. this was almost weird. She would have felt embarrassment, or awkwardness, but all of her emotions were tied up in pain and suffering. There was no room left for anything. And there was always the fun fact that she was still insane. Was that Christof next to the dead generator?! The sight of him made her want to cry, but she was horrified at the mere idea of facing him. It only made her withdraw into this safe stranger holding her more.

(Entering from the gauntlet!)
Astra may have arrived too late to offer any assistance to the (ex)captives, but in this case she didn't care. All that she knew that there was a bunch of cages, and a few injured students about, so she had a pretty good idea that some of them had been in the cages. But they were all free now, so it was all good.
But now that she was here, were was Yuki? She had seen him enter the tent before...

He had tried. That's all Roch could think. He'd tried searching as people came in, as people--more people than him--managed to do what he had never been able to do on his own, but he hadn't found the card, he hadn't destroyed the generator. All he'd done was...
He looked out the hole to the battle field, letting his guitar dissipate and shoving his hands into his pockets. All he'd done was not die, pretty much. That was better than he had the last time. He looked at the crowd of people holding one another, comforting one another, and decided that he probably wasn't needed here any longer.
Then he stopped. "You said there was a giant horse breathing fire on the hunters?" he asked Mort or anyone listening. "Dude, is he still out there?" he asked, excited, his moment of self pity forgotten entirely. "Cuz I SERIOUSLY want to see that!"
But before anyone could reply, he was jumping out the hole and heading onto the battle field to see if he could see Invi in his natural form.

The electricity surged in a binding, excruciating crackle, and Barth couldn't see beyond the bars, or beyond being drained past his normally-thin limits. Crashing, crunching, noise...and then the power snapped off, and the cage doors creaked open, and like being underwater and coming to the surface, he breathed in something passing, Fear, real Fear, and opened his eyes.
He didn't recognize all of the people in the tent, but none of them were wearing hoods, or standing about threateningly. He looked to the generator which had been smashed and bent until the glow had disappeared, and in front of that...
In one piece. Whole. And against all odds and reason, in spite of the dangers, here.
"Chr-Christof..."

The flap of the tent gave way, the impossibly broad form of Herryk forcing himself through. His eyes flickered around the room. Jove, Barth, Christof, Calder. All familiar faces of friends. Still, no relief washed away the sour and piercing pain that had been in his chest since losing Freya. It felt like forever ago that they'd been separated, forever ago that his soul had gone missing.
He was growing frantic, having not spotted the blonde Valkyrie immediately.
"Freya?!" The rough timbre of his voice was filled with uncertainty and distress. Where was she if she was not here?

Calder had only managed to little noise in the back of his throat when he felt the pressure on him again, a power that felt heavy against his back as he was held down, and he closed his eyes a moment, rejecting Roch's order not to sleep, and waited. There was nothing he could do in this condition, but despite it all, it was only temporary. More and more students worked their way past their cages and with slow realization, he thought he saw Christof. His mind was playing tricks with his eyes, or at least that's what he thought at first.
But when the power released them of it's hold and the doors cracked open, now dead of power, Calder's ears perked. He breathed out when he no longer felt that intense power and even welcomed a fresh breeze of something familiar. Was that Fear? Dragging himself over, his first matter of business was to get out of his cage, and to that he did....ungracefully.
He managed to roll out and flop on the ground, and after some rearranging, slowly staggered up to his feet. He felt dizzy and sick to his stomach, but he looked about. Christof was looking at the awful machine from before and looking fine if not a bit weary. "Christof." Calder managed, but then turned to Barth. The boil should get out of that cage when he could.
Slowly moving over, Calder went to the entrance and held out both his hands to the demon inside. "Come on Barth. You've been captured long enough. Christof needs a hug." They all needed a hug.

((entering from gauntlet))
With Shun still holding her wrist Mitsu entered the tent not entirely sure what to expect. Her eyes drifted over the students who were freed from their cages to the dead generator off to the side. Had the Hunters truly left?
It wasn't hard to pick up on the pain and suffering that had happened here. Emotions had been worn thin and more than a few students looked worse for wear. Not sure what to say or what to do Mitsu simply took a step behind Shun to keep out of sight.

Tybalt gave the reaper a confused look and a tilt of his head.
Retreated? Why would they suddenly retreat? It made no sense. Weren't they just abandoning all the goals they had worked towards? And not that he wanted to admit it, those fake reapers, from what he had heard and seen, had been holding their own pretty well. So why retreat and leave all the captives and their equipment? It just made no sense...
Suddenly, the black dog's relief twisted into a horrible feeling of discomfort.
"I'm going to check outside..." He said to his fellow teammates, as well as the two from Luminous Flux. "You guys coming? I'm sure Mei and the rest of your team would like to know you guys are okay." It wasn't just that though. He wanted out of this tent. He had been cooped up for too long. He wanted out!
Tybalt is exiting to the gauntlet!
