She had to dance, huh? There was a pause as Shehk put her shoes down on the floor, grabbed the hem of her dress and tied it off to one side to keep herself from tripping over it, sighing.
She was there.
She was on the floor. She had to try and at least not fail at participating. She wouldn't be dancing at any other point in the evening, as the idea of just leaving now had passed through her mind. There was a pause as she waited for the music.
And then the music began. Okay, this wasn't a bad song, Shehk had to think. There was a pause as she tapped her feet for a few beats. Okay, this wasn't going to be too bard to feel into at all. And hey, she was a FEARleader, she better show people how it was done!
Her feet slid apart and she swayed her hips to one side, her arms flinging out to the sides before she swayed her body to the left, rolled her arms up, then down again. There was a stop of her bare feet against the floors and her hands went back down towards her knees in step with them.
It wasn't a bad start.
A small grin started to form on the pricolici's face. All she had to do was ignore that anybody else was there dancing out of beat with her. She had this. She was thrilled to actually be doing something, even if she'd be embarassed as hell about it later.
Shehk sauntered forward in beat to the music, spun in place once, sashayed her shoulders from side to side, and then the chorus struck.
Another foot stomped the ground, pivotting in a series of circles around one foot that did nothing but stay in place as she used it to 'ground her'. Clockwise once, counterclockwise twice. She broke it, clapped twice, shook her hips again, up through her belly, to her shoulders, then down again.
In her mind, Shehk was in her dorm room, her headphones over her large wolf ears. Nothing else was there. She had to let herself go.
Her arms went out to either side again, one hip cocked up to the side, before she brought her arms slowly up above her head, then down again as she slowly moved from one hip to the other, changing her dominant foot as she moved. Shehk spun once, jumped back once, then slid her left foot out in front of her.
She bent so her head nearly touched her knee, then as she slowly pulled her torso back up, she dropped so she was on one knee. One the floor, she twisted her body, hit her hands on the floor, then forced herself up onto her hands, then quickly back onto her feet before she had the chance to flash anybody her undies in that dress.
She wasn't completely in that room, dancing like an idiot to herself. She had to keep some decency to herself!
Another sway of her hips to the left, then the right, then back again.
Shehk knew she had to rock it like a FEARleader, or at least go down trying.
And as the chorus swelled up, Shehk just let herself have at it. Feel the music, do as came natural.

"Awww, okay! If you're sure." Junko hopped up on her tiptoes to leave a light kiss against his lips, smiling up at him and nodding. She would do her best! She gave him a little pat on the head and twirled away, using the motion to attempt to hide the fact that she'd purposely caught her finger around the band in his hair and pulled it out with her as she left him. She twirled the band around her finger for a moment and grinned back at Seiji, one hand on her hip as she hid it away. Where did she hide it? It's a mystery! Okay, so it was hidden away in the only place she could keep something. Her cleavage. It was mildly uncomfortable to do this but she kept it there, lifting the skirt of her dress enough to hurry out onto the dance floor. This song actually sounded really fun! She'd never heard it before, but she liked its beat! At first she just did something simple, swaying her hips and raising her arms above her head to the beat of the song. But no, this was a dance competition. She had to let loose a little more. When Junko was in her room she liked to pretend she actually knew what the heck she was doing when she danced to the music on her eyePod, copying things she'd seen in videos or on skelevision. And she was sure she wasn't the worst dancer here. Not the best, but she couldn't possibly be the worst. She'd seen some of the other dancers. Hell...Nuk had looked like an epileptic wolf when he'd been dancing. Junko's dress was too long for her to dance how she was used to, however. Hmmm...she'd figure something out! She'd just think of all the dance-like moves she could! She twirled and spun, hopping on her feet and spinning on the ball of her foot with one hand keeping the skirt of her dress held off the ground while her other arm was raised in the air, punching. She eventually dropped the dress to let it touch the floor again, not caring that no one could see the totally awesome legwork from underneath her long dress. Even if they couldn't see it, she totally still did it, even going as far as to occasionally pop her chest. What? She'd seen other people do it! She was grinning and even attempting to sing the words, not quite getting all of them right and more mumbling for the most part but the point was she was really enjoying herself. "I wanna see your peacock. Your peacock-c**k-c**k~!" She sang with a laugh, clearly not understanding the innuendo behind the innuendo behind the words. Just...just let her stay oblivious. She turned and swayed, arms and legs moving with her. She was totally pretending she was in her dorm room with the door locked and no one able to watch her do this but her minipets.

A rather confident smile on the the ghoul's lips, she waited for the start of the competition. Watching the two ghouls behind the booth as they gave their brief explanation of things and kicked the contest off with the first high energy beats of the song. Splendid. Taking two swift steps towards an open pocket of floor the djinn spun on her toes, arms raising up above her head before rolling outward in a fluid wave from shoulder to wrist. Palms extending to either side before hovering motionless. Blue eyes narrowing at her date as a grin spread along pomegranate lips. It was so on. She waited for the chorus to run it's course, having heard the song a time or two in the past, and when the first stanza followed the ghoul's hips rolled to one side, pulling her torso to follow before before flowing back in the opposite direction. The ghoul was a belly dancer, and it would appear she was prepared to fight tooth and nail for this competition. She moved, she swayed, and she shimmered in time to the music. Twirling at such a speed that her hair and dress flared around her. Her hips did not lie.

The other ghoul at the booth watched, enamored, as each entrant showed off his or her sweet moves. Cady chose this point to lean into Ash's face, squishing up against the mic. "THANK YOU EVERYONE, THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL. ALSO THERE ARE, YOU KNOW LIKE FAAAABULOUS PRIZES!"She reached underneath the booth, pulling out a box of pastries, an orb, and a balloon."PLUS, FAB PHOTOS OF YOUR SWEET DANCE MOVES!"At this, she whipped out a Crowdak camera and started snapping away. prizes Best Roll, Best RP, and Worst Roll all get art of their characters dancing, by SleepZombie and Ravvlet! The three winners also get to choose from the somewhat pathetic prize pool Cady garnered from under the booth! DANCE OFF CLOSED WE ARE JUDGING YOU SO HARD NOW

Dark eyes focused on the sway of the ghoul's hips, he completely failed to notice the slight pull at the back of his head that signaled the thievery of his hair tie. Not until the soft lengths of it brushed his cheeks as it fell to frame his face. "What the-" His human hand grouped at the back of his head before he picked up on the twirl of the band around Junko's finger, then the smug little expression that was blossoming on her face. "You...." Oh, it was so on now. She was gunna get it. Grinning rather fiercely at her, the boil followed until he reached the edge of the floor. Dark brows narrowing as he watched his ghoulfriend busting a rather impressive move. That little liar, she did too know how to fact dance. Oh yes, he was going to make her pay. Revenge would be sweet. For now he waited for the contest to conclude. Biding his time on the sidelines. Taking the opportunity to cheer on his fellow students as they call cut loose. Unstabul and Junko specifically, but he hollered for all of them.

For a good long while, Nuk just stood there, brushing himself off as the the pair of hands had caused him to get dust on his vest, popping his collar with a light snort as he watched the others approach the dance floor. It was quickly becoming crowded -- it seemed that the students willing to take the risk in the name of glory far outweighed those who were too timid to try out. Letting his amber eyes sift over the contestants, he smirked a little as he noticed Jericho among them, tilting his head up at him in a brief, silent greeting. Bul, too, seemed to have taken the challenge along with Junko and a few others he barely recognized. If he noticed Shehk there, he didn't visibly react, his eyes finally doing a full 360 back to where the two DJs looked like they were about ready to start. Behind the booth, he could see the faintly-glowing Ash grinning like the deviant he suspected her to be, wondering if had been she who had shoved him out into the stage, and he folded his arms loosely across his chest, smirking back at her despite how she likely wasn't even looking in his direction.
Alright, you wanna play? Lets play. It's your move, ScreeJays.
As if spurred by the mental thought, there was the sudden crackling of the speakers, the chosen song starting to sing to life. And sing it did. In fact, the first vocals out of the speaker were distinctly feminine in nature, the song upbeat and lively -- a rather emasculating melody, for a dude, but overall quite a good beat to dance to. But it was the words that caught Nuk by surprise, his eyebrows lifting as the first five words to blast from the speaker were...
'I want. To see. Your peacock.'
While the others began to dance (some recovering from the shock faster than others,) Nuk stood completely still where he was in the middle of the dance floor, his eyes tilted upward slightly, narrowing a bit with the choice of the song. Now this was just silly. Then, as if inspiration hit him...
Turning to face the stage, the monster kicked off the dance floor towards it, half-sprinting as he reached it and placing his palms flat on top of it, vaulting onto the stage to skid a little on his knees. He was up in a heartbeat, extending a hand to grab the mic from the mic stand that had been left from the first performance. Spinning the mic by the cord hard a few times, on the last revolution the skinwalker released the tension in the cord, snatching it out of the air to cradle it by his mouth, eyes flashing as he brought it to his mouth, lips curling over his teeth in a broad smirk.
"Word on the street, you got somethin' to show me, ee~ Magical, colorful, Mr. Mystery, ee~ I'm intrigued, for a peek, heard it's fascinating~ Come on baby let me see~ What you're hiding underneath~"
Sashaying his shoulders a bit to the music, the skinwalker dropped to his knees, tossing back his head as he 'danced' to the music, his glowing amber eyes moving over the crowd in amusement.
"Words up your sleeve~ Such a tease~ Wanna see the show~ In 3D, a movie~ Heard it's beautiful~ Be the judge~ And my girls gonna take a vote~"
Extending his free arm to point towards the two Dj's, kicking off the floor with his knees back into an upright position, revolving his arm in a 180 to move his pointed finger over the crowd.
"Come on baby let me see~ What you're hiding underneath~"

Joachim followed her into the room as a new song started to blast over on the speakers, something about showing a peacock? He wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean but it wasn't really particularly in his taste considering most of his music didn't have a lot of words in it. Letting his eyes adjust to the darkness he looked around the room where his date had vanished off to before something seemed to nudge his hip.
Whirling around he saw Taryn lingering around the wall clinging to her snake...or tail he wasn't sure what exactly she called it. Merel was squeaking up a storm for some unknown reason, maybe it was because he hadn't join in on whatever was going on in the middle of the room.
"No what?" He asked unsure what Taryn was talking to and who about.

Calder nodded, walking off with Invi to find a place to sit and watch. He was in no mood for a dance compeition and was very glad that he hadn't entered. The song alone made him cover his mouth and grin. What a strange song to create, and was it just him, or was...one part of the word peacock repeated for a reason? He tried to look around to see if anyone else had a dirty mind like him, but he only glanced at Invi's fine-pressed frown and quickly somber.
Sitting at one of the tables that had a nice view of the dance floor. All the dances were interesting to say the least, not to mention full of vigor and spirit. At least everyone was having fun and if there was thing about a dance that Calder liked, it was just letting loose and going wild. They were acting like true monsters!
Calder clapped to the music, bouncing a bit as everyone took turns and danced. Soon, it was all over and he smiled to his date. "So, what did you think?"

Roch had cheered his a** off, well, when he hadn't been laughing his a** off, that was. He seemed perfectly content to let his date dance with her brother, in face he had cheered both of them equally from the sidelines, waving his fists in the air to show his support.
"That was awesome!!" he called to them all, not daring to move onto the dance floor just yet.

Sammy had seen a lot of things since ariving at this school. She had seen snow, elves, reindeer. Fought a robot. Even killed by a dragon. Met some of her best friends, upset a few of them. Hit on a mindflayer, stole a hat during a battle of the bands (which she almost won). Witnessed the murder of at least three of her friends in the form of a horrifying meat slicing death trap.
But Nuk singing?
Her jaw nearly hit the floor as her and Siddie wandered into prom. The tomboy as always, Sammy wore a black tux with coat tails hanging low, vest and shirt under it with black slacks and the boots to match. She looked rather simple next to Siddie, but that's how it always was.
"Siddie... how much did we miss? I think I just saw Nuk singing something raunchy and strongly suggesting I show of my 'peacock' to the crowd."

Riley hadn't actually left the dance floor during the dance off, but she was not in any shape to join it. She just continued to jive carefully, hoping beyond hope no one bumped into her and waiting for someone - anyone - to come save her.
Because Mot had left her alone, blind, on the dance floor, this entire time.
What a douche.

Taryn smiled again nervously, peering up at her date. Of course her tail would embarrass her on a night like this. What else were sentient tails for? She pushed Abigail back behind her, and the snake seemed to take the hint and turned to look back out at the crowd of boils and ghouls dancing under the lights. Relieved, Taryn's smile turned shy and sweet and her hands moved back down to clasp in front of her.
"Do you want some... punch?"

Charlie had sat at his seat and brooded like a dark poet against the world. It would have complete the scene if Charlie were to have a glass of red wine and a lit half smoked cigarette but the demon didn't. The demon none the less had sat in his seat for quite some time with his special friend in silence.
But as quickly as the dark mood had come to him the mood had left. It was okay if Lizzy was with a stranger. So far he didn't seem to be doing anything wrong, and believe me, Charlie had been watching Lizzy like a concerned hawk. She was his friend after all and he cared about her in a protective little brother sort of way.
"Amrita ~ Lets jam!" Charlie happily grabbed one of Amritas backwards hands and dragged her on the dance floor through crowds of dancing boils and ghouls before he found a spot in front of the dj booth that he liked. Then Charlie, surprisingly, began to dance pretty well. It wasn't any sort of dance that had a name, but he went with the beat with no problems.
"Come on Amrita~" He held her hands and tried to lead.

"Did somebody spike the punch already?" Siddie asked, tilting her head slightly. "Not that I'm complaining. That was pretty funny." She giggled. "And now you can tease him about it forever. Right?" She smiled up at Sammy mischievously. "Extra bonus points."
