"It's entirely possible," Scarlet teased. "But I think you're safe for the moment."

Val sighed slight relief.
"aye, it would appear so." he forced a smirk. "Goldschmitt, what were you dreaming about?" he asked.

Alfons closed his eyes. "Mu. Hölle. Daija..." he trailed off for a second. "Es scheint, dass das Karma hat mich eingeholt." Alfons was tired; he didn't feel like putting in the effort to speak anything other than his native German at that moment. He opened his eyes. "I suppose I should tell you a brief version of how Daija and I became estrang--" Alfons was interrupted by his lungs. He began hacking quite forcefully; a little blood came out of his mouth. Barely managing to stop, he choked out, "That may have to wait." Dmitri finally sat up to make sure his friend was OK, pain be damned. "Boss, take your time. Ve don't need you to kill yourself just to speak." ---------------------------------- Ciro decided that he was done thinking. Carefully nudging the spider onto a wall, he headed back inside to see what was going on inside; that scream he'd earlier made him a little anxious.

"I agree, it's something I am very interested to hear, but only if you're not going to loose a lung in the telling," Scarlet said. "I'll send in my personal physician if you promise to get some rest!"

Valthier was worried. Alfons' condition was terrible, and whatever was plaguing his mind was not letting him recover easily. still, he had to remember that the man was safe now, and in the best of care. and he seemed willing to talk now, as soon as his injuries were properly healed.
this was good news, in the thick of all the tragedy. he hoped it would be enough. it was time for him to rest as well.
"rest will do you good, Goldschmitt. you can tell us later. you're in good hands."
he turned and retreated back to Mouse's room. with a deep sigh, he lied down and drifted into his undead reverie.

A while after the vampires left the room, Alfons got up the courage to speak again. "Dmitri...." "Da?" "I'm... sorry. I wasn't myself. I..." Alfons cut off, noticing Dmitri standing over him. Dmitri then punched his head with a bit of force. "Shut up and start healing! Zhose vounds look horrible." Dmitri walked out of the room with his bad arm in a sling. He was headed for the springs. "Idiot. Thinks I still care." He thought, a wide grin on his face. On the way, Dmitri passed Ciro. The two exchanged glances and continued on their paths. Ciro made his way to Alfons's room. "And how's the fool that attempted to play god?" he jeered. Alfons glared. "You do realize that there's a spider on your head, right?" he said, ignoring the remark. Ciro sighed. "I nudged her off onto a wall but she jumped back on a second later." Ciro composed himself, and mentioned, "Scarlet drained me dry earlier... I don't know what to think." "Then don't." *cough* "Just go with the flow. We need you here. You've been quite the asset. And considering the fact that you used to be a servant of my brother, you've been extremely loyal. Trust your instin--" *HACK cough HACK* Ciro nodded. "Thank you. Now shut up and get better." The spider moved in such a way that it looked like she bowed. As Ciro walked away she made her way down his back, eventually reaching the floor, and crawled away.

Scarlet slowly wandered through the narrow corridors aimlessly. At least her guests were on the road to recovery. Val was settled for the night. Now if she could just settle for the day.
She didn't really like being alone. She'd only had Ciro around for a few days--and this wasn't the first time she'd "broken up" with a companion--but he had been special. Perhaps she should call on Kyo, check up on his kleptomaniac habits which he had undoubtedly reverted back too. Again. The cat-boy was usually in the mood for a bit of discipline, and at the moment, even with her strength returned, she was lonely.

Ciro was in the armory, stripping off the layers of his armor. He removed each piece carefully, placing them in their proper places on the display. Now in his skivvies, he saw what appeared to be an old Japanese officer's uniform from WWII. He walked over, intrigued by the piece of history. A thought crossed his mind. Ciro grabbed the trousers and put them on. they were tight, but not terribly so. After a minute or two passed he was in full uniform, with both of his swords attached to his hip. Satisfied, he went off to search the halls for Scarlet. -------------------------- Dmitri sat in the hot spring, wearing nothing but a small towel. He washed spring water over his wounds. He cringed a little, but shrugged off the pain thanks to the relaxing waters. "Eto zamechatelʹno." -------------------------- Alfons managed to sit up. He was hungry, and wanted to call for a servant to help. Before he could, one came up and asked immediately. "Gequellde mit weißem Kees, und Federweisser." When the servant stared at him, he sighed and wrote down the order with a phone number, and instructed him to ask the chef to make it, and if he needs any help, "call the number and ask my personal chef."

Scarlet peaked into different rooms, looking for Kyo. She finished checking one of the smoking parlors and stepped out into the hallway just in time to run into Ciro.
"Oh!" she cried as she grabbed onto him to keep from tipping over--he was more solid than living men.

"Oh, hey," Ciro smiled as Scarlet clung to him. "About earlier..." He paused and thought for a moment. "It was rather odd, but I'm not going to let that get between us." Ciro embraced Scarlet and moved in for a kiss. ------------------------------ Alfons's meal arrived. It turned out decent, considering it was just cooked potatoes and curd cheese and the chef had never made this particular dish. The dish brought back memories of his youth. Specifically, a dinner many years ago where he had this dish. He remembered Daija being there, arguing with his father in the other room.... ------------------------------ Dmitri sat in the waters, thinking, "I could use some vodka right about now..."

Scarlet kissed him back and melted into his arms. "I might do it again," she warned. "And I'll never apologize. If you are going to be mine, then you are going to be mind completely."

"I wouldn't have it any other way."
------------------------------ "You've screwed me for the last time Goldschmidt!" Daija yelled. He was visibly angry; his face was as red as a ruby. "First you strip me from my position as lead trainer of the troops and now this? Why am I not allowed to train that whelp you call a son?" He clenched his fists. Alfons Goldchmidt II calmly stared at him. "You're too aggressive. You nearly killed one of my trainees! I had no choice but to fire you." Daija wasn't having any excuses. "All combat should be to the dea--" Alfons II's face broke its stoic look and was now clearly full of rage. "NEIN! That man wasn't in combat! He was in a sparring match in training! You've been slowly becoming more and more of a death seeker! And you don't seem to care whether it's someone else's or yours! I refuse to let you instill that murderous attitude in my boy! I will not allow you to kill anyone and especially not my son! Und jetzt raus!" The man gestured toward the door. Daija snapped. In a blind fury he attacked Goldschmidt. Before he could hit him a gunshot rang out. Daija crumpled. Alfons II stood there with a gun, looking over his injured friend. "Idiot." He called his security to "take care of" Daija, instructing them to patch him up and dump in back on Japanese soil. "And torch his house."
A few hours later, Alfons III was sitting with his father. "Vater, why did Daija have to leave?" "He was going to kill people, son, and not in defense or for his country." "Oh..." ---------------------------------------------------
Dmitri managed to get some vodka from one of the servants, and now he was singing an old Russian folk tune... poorly.

Scarlet snuggled close to Ciro's cool body, all thoughts of the wayward cat-boy gone. Her man-at-arms was certainly something special--a companion for the ages.
"Come, my lovely. We will retire...well, attempt to tire the first time, anyway," she teased with a wink. She led him down the halls to a safe room with lush futons and solid, soundproof walls, to spend the day away from prying eyes and ears.

the next afternoon, before the sun started to get too low in the sky, Valthier was already awake and out of bed. he crawled out to the balcony, and looked over it. the sun was already dipping behind mountain peaks, and the sky was dark. it was a littel strange to him, but he liked it. the twilight sky in the mountains was even more beautiful than the same in Barton or Durem, or even Gambino Isle. he stayed out there, watching the sunset until he couldn't see it anymore. then he went inside and got dressed again.

As the sun set, Ciro stood with Scarlet at the now-open window. A cool breeze blew in, but it felt warm to Ciro's cold skin. "So, what's the next step in our plan?" --------------------------------------- Alfons's thoughts wandered from that night with his father to the day Daija kicked him out of the dojo on Iriomote. "Boy, your father took everything I had. Priceless family heirlooms were in that house he burnt, pictures of loved ones, memories of the past...." Daija trailed off, tears streaming. "What little I had left of my wife was there! And he destroyed it! And boy, I will repay him 10,000 fold for his transgressions. I have respect for you though; you disobeyed his wishes and sought me out, so I will give you this warning instead of killing you outright: leave this island, never comeback, flee, hide, don't get between me and your father, or I will kill you." Daija's tears had stopped, and he walked up to Alfons, who was by the entrance of the splendid dojo. Cicadas buzzed in the trees. "NOW GO!" Daija punched his pupil, launching him out of the building. The cicadas stopped. Alfons sighed and looked at is now-cold, barely-touched meal. He set it aside and got out of bed with a great effort. He figured he'd step out for some air. ------------------------------- Dmitri was dressed in fatigues, and had climbed onto the roof to watch the sunset. A servant had helped him up and had given him another bottle of vodka. Dmitri took a swig as the sun descended behind the mountains. "Takaya krasivaya, eto nebo. Ya skuchayu po Rossii." he muttered, and took another gulp.
((Такая красивая, это небо. Я скучаю по России./So beautiful, this sky. I miss Russia))
