Law of effect and the law of latency govern over reflexes.
Different types of reflexes: Trophisms: A change or movement in the entire organism due to a stimulus.

Kineses: Changes in movement that have no particular orientation. (ie Orthokineses: change in speed in woodlice. Klinokineses: Change in rate of turning in lanaria.)

Taxis: Change in movement that IS oriented. If the action is oriented towards the stimulus it is a positive taxis (moth to a flame) and vice versa is a negative taxis. Different taxis include phonotaxis, clemotaxis (smell oriented), geotaxis (gravity) and phototaxis)

Klinotaxis: Orientation due to the data gathered by one sensor.
Tropotaxis: Orientation due to the data gathered by two sensors.

FAPs: Stereotypical series of behaviors elicited by a sign/releasing stimulus, typical of all a species. Nor learned by previous experience and is fixed in a sequence that must be carried out before the behavior stops. Experimentally proven by Eibl-Einsfelt with squirrels and nut burying behaviors. Proven for human emotion by Ekamn.

Stimulus Specificity: Habituation usually occurs only to one stimulus, but can be transferred depending on the degree of similarity between the stimuli.

Stimulus Intensity: Effects the degree of habituation that occurs. The stronger the stimulus the greater the resistance to habituation.
Interstimulus Interval: Habituation occurs quicker and fade quicker when the intervals are short.
Rapid Relearning: Relearn habituation quickly.

You can over learn habituation to the point where the habituation sticks for quick a long time, but despite no physical reaction the nervous system still reacts (below-zero habituation).

Sensitization: Increased reactivity to an intense stimulus, the opposite of habituation. Lasts for shorter intervals and is not stimulus specific (ie rats who are being shocked will react more strongly to audio/visual cues).

Dual Process Theory: Both sensitization and habituation happen at the same time. There is a net effect in the neural system that effects how often the behavior occurs, depending on whether the sensitization or habituation is stronger.
