Traverse Town ♦ District One Nalo hugged the big ball of mint-green feathers that was his friend. He saw Enyb leer at him and hoped it wasn't too cross with his poor choice of words. "I hope I didn't make you mad Enyb."He made a weak smile and wiped back some tears.

{[Elde]} "Why does fortune seem to strike the most kindhearted people? Is everything just pre-ordained?"
.:[Traverse Town: Second District Cafe']:. Elde was getting comfortable as Rufus asked his question and the others gave their replies. He really didn’t know that much about the heartless either, just that they were called that. He had both arms on the table, lazily resting his cheek in one hand staring at the bottle of wine. His brow perked up as he glanced at Nomaa, thinking that a salty girl like her would have wanted some. It appeared Sory wasn’t that interested either, he wasn’t sure about Alex.
Elde looked distracted as he pulled out his coin and spun it on the table looking to see which side came up. He smirked at the result.
He reached out and poured a glass appearing that he was getting some for himself. However after he had finished pouring he took the entire bottle and began taking large swigs as he continued to listen. He didn’t say so but the glass was for Alex if she wanted some. He settled in with his new friend and continued to listen to Rufus. ~~~ .:[Rufus]:. [Traverse Town:: Cafe' Meeting Room] Rufus listened intently, he smiled at Sory’s explanation. “You’re observations are correct…” he slowly stood from the table he was leaning on and began to pace at the front of the room as he prepared his explanation. Had to make sure he didn’t give them too much. “The Heartless, to be more exact, are creatures that arise from the darkness in someone’s heart when the natural darkness within them takes over or becomes too powerful. Heartless are not always created this way however and in addition to coming from stolen hearts, taken by other heartless, I have it on good word that most heartless are actually created artificially. However if there is one definite answer to your question, the source of the heartless is… well…” with that Rufus stopped for a moment looking at all of them his eyes becoming like slits, a smirk on his face as he said the next word “You…” he turned his head to the front again and continued pacing “Or us I suppose you could say. Every individual has darkness in their heart, so theoretically they can never be truly defeated. In fact my sources say that since a human is made up of three parts, a soul, a body and a heart that there are other creatures besides the heartless out there…” on that note he stopped directly in front of the end of the long table, the white screen still behind him, he leaned down placing his hands on either side of the table as he looked at all of them. “If that isn’t enough to wet your appetites then I don’t know what is… your probably curious about my source. My father used to be in charge of the Shinra corporation before an unfortunate accident took his life…” there was no change in emotion in his voice as he said this, simply a descriptive tone throughout “… this corporation has access to massive resources, including research into areas related to the information I just described to you…” he closed his eyes and slowly slid his hands off the table, folding them behind his back and turning away from the group as he continued. The truth was that the information he had didn’t actually come directly from Shinra research scientists, but that little snippet didn’t need to be divulged yet. “This is most of what I know, except for one more obvious bit, and that’s where you all come in. The heartless, as has no doubt been noted by you and others, search for something… relentlessly.” His body remained turned towards the front but his head was angled so he could see the group out of one eye now “The theory is apparently that worlds, like people, have hearts and that is what the heartless are seeking. When they can get to this heart, they do something and then… well…” he looked at his hand as he motioned and clenched it into a fist, not angrily, just softly “Theoretically the world is then destroyed…” Rufus then turned to face them all again. “This is where the information gets hazy, for a lot of people’s benefit, I would like to know how the heartless get to the heart of a world. So basically what I am asking you to do is a grand research project, which I’m sure would be to your benefit as well. All you have to do is travel to whatever other worlds you please and note any and all heartless behavior and events in hopes of making some kind of discovery.”He resisted a small urge to laugh when he mentioned the part about other peoples benefit. Rufus relaxed a little bit now, figuring that was a good bit of information before he continued. “Any questions?” he said in a slightly more up beat tone than he had been in while explaining all this. While all of this had been going on Rufus had pressed a small device which would instantly send a message to Reno and Rude, one that he frequently sent, with a slight modification. Rufus was not one to be easily fooled and he had noticed the little spy (Faust) and the message to Reno and Rude would say 'Outside, get him.'((Faust this is a really small thing but since the café’ is like in the basement level of the hotel there probably wouldn’t be a skylight xD so I’m just going to assume you were listening in some other way, hope that doesn’t rain on your parade))

~Window~ [Traverse Town :: First District] Window followed his new acquaintance, trusting that he was not going to lead him into a trap of any sort. Although one must not judge a book by its cover, Window couldn't help but believe that Nalo was as amicable as he appeared to be. The man thanked his luck that the first person he met was-- Is that a giant, mint-green bird?Of all the animals he knew, he loved birds the best; they knew better than anyone about the wind. Window found this 'chocobo' to be exponentially less odd than Nalo, especially since his home had a similar sort of bird--just smaller and a dark green color, so it could blend in with the foliage. Old habits kicking in, Window began to wonder how nature could have favored this species' particular coloring. "Why, hello there, Enyb," he cooed to the chocobo. Oh, how he wanted to touch him, but he wasn't sure if the bird was the property of Nalo and if it would be disrespectful to stroke Enyb's lovely feathers. Window turned his attention back to the Vierra. He took in Nalo's words with a mixture of offense, compassion, and guilt over getting offended during such a moment ( Us 'scholarly types'?! Now who's the one judging? And I fully understand what he is trying to express. He shouldn't be the one assuming such things according to my species--). But then Nalo started to cry. Window was thrown off by such an intimate gesture when the two of them had only met a few minutes ago; clearly, the etiquette rules he was used to were not the same on this planet. He stood there, somewhat stiff and awkward, wondering if he should also break formality in order to comfort Nalo. Window blinked. The Vierra looked oddly beautiful in the soft lamplight, his silver hair catching the glow at just the right angles in order to create a slight halo effect. His tears only made the effect more tragic, like a weeping engal (a spirit who had ascended above the common malignant ghosts). Mentally, Window rocked back and forth between keeping a respectful distance or breaking an ingrained custom to reach out and console Nalo. The 'hume' sighed. Well, this was a new world, wasn't it? Window hesitantly cleared his throat. "Err...this is how people on my planet comfort each other. I hope that this does not come off as an intimate gesture for you...and please keep in mind that this is a common practice where I come from." He gently reached out, holding Nalo's head in his hands, and brought their foreheads together. This came from the idea that, when the foreheads touched, some of the feelings of sadness passed from one person to the other so that one did not have to bear the whole heavy load alone. The empty space would be filled with comfort and sympathy given from the other person. It was a custom founded in wishful thinking, but weren't most traditions like that? Window hoped it helped. With their heads still together, he said, "It takes strength to go out on your own, away from the familiar, and to create an identity independent of what you know." Window laughed softly. I guess I should try to take a leaf out of my own book. But it still didn't take the sting away; the wound where his world had been ripped away was still too fresh. "And yes, it can be hard to stay rooted to a single place, but you know what? The importance is finding the beauty and joy wherever you are, regardless of what you are doing or who you are with. That is the most challenging experience of them all." He felt his eyes itch again. Maybe he was taking in some of Nalo's pain after all. Window released the Vierra, stepping back with a half smile. "And the wind is never a stranger; it is a constant friend, like a second soul." Which was rather appropriate that it would give you a hug Window thought, since only the closest friends and family would do such a thing--such full-body contact would allow more than a small stream of feeling pass between bodies, it was believed. "So, then: no attachments, and no judgments, eh? Well you should probably form a different idea about us 'scholarly types;' it is my job, if you can call it that, to understand and to observe without discrimination. Plus, I have done my share of odd jobs as well, though maybe not as odd as yours."

Traverse Town ♦ District One
Nalo let Window work his empathetic magic. It felt nice to have a comforting ear and a nice conversation. Since he arrived in Traverse town a week ago, the only things that have happened to him are calamity, misfortune, and a panging loneliness. He met Solaris and Enyb, but neither of them can hold a conversation, and he had only met them but hours ago. Nalo grinned a pearly-white grin from ear to ear when Window released his head. "The only scholars I ever knew were stuck up mages, or greedy field explorers who took from the wood, or those who meddled in unnatural things...No attachments. Why are people so afraid of touching? Of showing emotions? All the Vierra and humes I've ever known take emotions as a sign of weakness, but they proudly display their achievements and love and hate. Who decided to categorize emotions by their worth? I'm rambling now...So...what do you want to do now? If you want, maybe we could look for a pilot to take you home? Somebody has to know where you're from..."

: - {άℓєχάηdѓά} - : |My allegiance lies with no one, but I am no bounty hunter.| : - {Traverse Town : Second District Cafe} - :
Alex raised an eyebrow at Elde drinking straight from the wine bottle. A part of her chuckled at how he might be drunk, while another just shook her head at him. She pulled herself off the wall she was leaning against and sat down next to him. Her eyes drifted to the glass of wine he'd poured, and was obviously not going to drink.
She wasn't a big drinker, but a good glass of wine now and again was alright. Alex gingerly picked up the glass, stem between her ring and middle finger of her right hand and sipped it. It was good wine. No wonder he was drinking straight from the bottle.
Her eyes darkened as Rufus spoke about the darkness in people's hearts. Wasn't that the truth... If there was anyone to talk about the darkness in their heart, it was her. She kept her face void of emotion, but her fingers still tightened on the wine glass.
"I'm not even going to be able to get close to the heart of a world... I'll just be a becon for every crawling shadow on that world..." she muttered to her wine glass before taking a long swing of it. And then what happened to her mother would happen to these people. She winced, one eye closing in pain, and she pressed a hand to her chest, right over her heart. The darkness festering there seemed to grow in intensity and her light wavered. J-just... not now... Gods, not now... Not with all these people here... Not in front of Elde... she thought, hoping that nothing bad would happen.

~Window~ [Traverse Town :: First District] The hume truly laughed for the first time since his arrival. "Actually, scholars are mostly known for being the opposite of your description. They want to preserve everything--knowledge, civilizations, forests--and are more apt to be indecisive and fight amongst themselves rather than potentially upset the balance of a system. It's almost a fault, especially when they forget that things change over time and they strive to keep environments static." Window examined what Nalo had said more closely. "Wait, mages? As in, magic wielders? Haha, I think you must be pulling my leg." But he pressed on. "As for emotions, my country has an interesting viewpoint: emotions are reserved for those with whom you share a strong bond. Emotions are a sign of respect--one has to earn the right to see them. It is a present, a treasure to be given to those you trust, because once you are able to see a person's emotions you are able to see their soul, and thus have the potential to control them." Always a didactic man, Window was only too willing to share his culture with someone else, once again falling into the role of instructor. "However...I can see that keeping my usual formal demeanor here may not be the most conducive to forming a better relationship in this case. I will try to adapt the best I can." I would feel odd to drop the stateliness, but surely with practice it would become easier. Underneath it all, Window was really a people-pleaser, and he would do almost anything to find that certain niche of friendship with someone--whether he liked them or not. But what did Window want to do? He closed his eyes and took a moment to turn inward and observe what his body was telling him. However, this felt different than what his body usually felt like. This sensation was very much like the one he experienced before, right after 'landing' in Traverse Town. It was like...there was no body there. Just his mind, and his soul. But when he opened his eyes, his body was clearly there. Sure, it had been translucent before, but he figured it might be an effect of arriving here on this world. He closed his eyes again, searching inside. Pushing aside the feeling of corporeal absence, what did he need?...Energy. Energy? That was new. Well, the way to get energy was through food, wasn't it? But he wasn't exactly hungry. Still, what alternative was there? Window looked back up to Nalo. "I think that some kind of physical sustenance would be good in this moment. I mean...would you want to get something to eat? I am curious about this Traverse Town. You see, my world has not developed interstellar travel, and frankly we only partially believed there could be life on other planets. I do not know how I would locate my world anyway..." He craned his head to gaze at the stars above; and there it was, the sky so dark, cold, and unforgiving. Window to suppressed a shudder. "Actually, we kept our eyes away from the sky much of the time, and it was not until a few years ago when we had a strange meteor shower that some of us began to dare to wonder what might be up there." He shook his head. "I am still of the opinion that space is a dangerous and alive being not to be toyed with." Window glanced at Enyb again, wanting to touch him. "If I may, can I...pet your chocobo? He is such an elegant animal..."

Traverse Town ♦ District One "I am most certainly not pulling your leg. I too know magic. It's hard to master, but quite a few knowledgable people can wield magic. Why, I know a few things that the wood has taught me. Here's the one I know best. Let's see if I can..." Nalo focuses himself and smiled pleasantly as he channeled his energy. "Shell!"Like a few hours ago, a green, magical barrier rose around Enyb, acting as a shield against many entry level magical attacks. "See? As for your planet...how could you not know about travelng between the planets? Everyone's seen the gummi shower...That happened years ago...Hmmm...If it's food you want, I guess we can go back to the hotel cafe. That's where a lot of other people who just arrived here are. There are humes, and I think some Ronso were there too! Enyb, on the other hand, is not mine. He is not my pet. He is my friend, and he's smarter that a lot of people I've come across. If you want to pet him, you have to ask him."

((I will make it a priority to post as Reno. I'll do it ASAP.)) [ ȤęҟνƴƦ ] {Don't fear the dark... fear what's in it.} [Castle Oblivion : Common Room] The voice that came out of the mask was unearthly, and demonic, striking a cord in the drow's heart, and sending a shiver of anticipation down his spine. He had already known what to expect, the demonic visage, the rage of the mysterious mask that Vereor kept with him... he had often wondered about that mask. In fact, one might say it was the reason he was in the Conclave at all. Throughout it all, no matter how evil, spine chilling, deadly, or powerful, Zekvyr did not seem phased. One might even notice a smirk on his face, if they were paying attention. He had come from a place where his kind summoned demons on par with and worse than this creature before him, and they did it on a daily basis. The more dangerous, the more chaotic, the more pleasing to their goddess. The goddess of chaos. The mask was the only thing Zekvyr was truly familiar with in this land of light, a wonderful sense of what could be if he was to release true darkness here. These Heartless creatures were wonderful, quaint really, but compared to true demons? Real demons could do far, far, more damage.

~Window~ [Traverse Town :: First District] Window jumped back with incredulous surprise when Nalo raised the green 'shell' around the chocobo. He weakly pointed his finger at it, looking like he was about to say something but unable to find the words. "You...you cannot be serious! This sort of wonder only happens in plays and books!" He walked around the shell, examining it. Window reached out a hand to touch the impossible thing, and a small bolt of green energy crossed the inch gap to shock his hand. The man quickly pulled his frazzled appendage back, cradling it to his chest. He looked down at it to see if anything was damaged, but all he saw was his hand...fuzzing in and out of focus and becoming slightly transparent again. Oh, no, not again... Window shook his hand and rechecked it, but nothing seemed amiss. Was he hallucinating things? Looking back to Nalo with an additional sense of fascination and curiosity, Window defended his home. "Yes, we saw the shower, and many pieces of sky material fell to our planet's surface, but despite tentative research nothing came of it and the material was deemed useless. It was also another reason for us to see the sky as a dangerous place, for many buildings and homes were destroyed by the shower. You say these sky pieces are 'gummies'? And they are used to travel from one world to another?" He shook his head. "Although, I would first believe there is interstellar travel before I would entertain the idea that magic was possible." Window grew slightly depressed. How many more preconceived ideas of his were going to be shot down before the hour was through? He wasn't sure if he would want to be around even more people if it meant slipping farther and farther away from the life he was used to. Window felt like he was slowly losing his grip on reality, and he was not ready to fall like he had before arriving on this planet. The darkness, the endlessness... Don't think about it. Food. Food is unchanging. It's real. Hang onto that. "We do not have to go there if it is out of your way. I do not want to hamper you on your own journey, wherever you may be going. If you need to continue on your business, you can. Please do not go through the trouble to make yourself my tour guide." Of course, this slipped out before Window could catch himself making the usual gestures of politeness, and he secretly hoped Nalo would stay with him for awhile longer. Nalo was a kind spirit, but if nothing else Window desperately needed something, anything familiar to hold on to. Still, if the Vierra wanted to leave, Window was not going to stop him, and he certainly did not want to inconvenience him. Window turned to Enyb and bowed. "And I do apologize to you for assuming that you were Nalo's property. May I have the pleasure of asking you directly, then, to pet you?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Window may have not known about magic, but magic knew a little about him. If he had cared to notice, the slight shock of the shell was not the only time his 'body' had blurred. While he had grown melancholy thinking about his disappearing foundation of knowledge of the working world, his feet began to disappear at the heels. It had snapped back into place after he changed his thoughts to food. The worst episode had happened when Window first realized he had lost all that he was. No one would have noticed this instance, since Nalo's pants had hidden the sudden transparency of Window's legs, and by the same token no one would have noticed the extra glow as he described his home. There was much Window had to learn, not only about the worlds but about himself...

However, before he even arrived half-way, tendrils of black and violet erupted from ground, the Darkness itself ensnaring Diogenes and forcefully pulling him to the ground with horrendous 'thud'. When that was done, the Dark Tendrils tossed him back into the air, only for 'Vereor' to reappear, kicking the Mind-Reader's face at such an angle that the body spun wildly before face-planting on the ground.
With his 'face' still one of absolute rage, the Veiled Gorgon grabbed Diogenes by the heel and drug him toward the group, dropping him off in front of Haruko.
"Take him. Do as you please. But he must be dead within 27 minutes and 32 seconds," he spoke, his voice still somewhat of an ethereal rumble, but not startling or resonating as before. A look of Frustration was all that was left, though when the mask had changed was impossible to tell. He stalked over to the pot of tea, took of the top, and somehow poured the entirety of its contents into its 'mouth', which was obviously solid. Once all the tea was gone, the Mask simply fell off of Vereor's face, landing quietly on the table...
A face of simple Amusement was all that could be seen on the mask."I had warned him, had I not?" Vereor asked, obviously back to normal with his monotone voice. "And Haruko, any mess you make, you have to clean up yourself. Don't forget that."{... is the only heart of worth.}

"Well, ma boi, when you've been around magic for as many decades as I have, you tend to get a sixth sense about it," he explained with a twitch of his beard, still focusing on the water. "This poison isn't natural- someone magically created it and filled our water supply with it. To get rid of it, you'd use the same spell you'd get use to heal someone with the same poison- Esuna. You know that, don'tcha lad?"
"Due to the large scale, though, it's going to require a good lot of concentration and energy, so just follow my lead," he explained, lifting his wand to shoulder level before saying the spell name - Esuna- aloud, but not as if to announce it; rather, he spoke it almost as if he were whispering, keeping his eyes closed as he focused on this wands flitting back and forth. A purifying dust slowly drifted out of the wand, entering into the water before vanishing. The spell would take quite some time, but hopefully not as long due to the aid of another...

[Second District : Plaza]"Well, many of us have two or three names that make up our full name. However, because it takes too long to say the full name, we only use portions of it when we speak to one another," she explained calmly, smiling at the young pictomancer with a wise, understanding smile not expected of someone Aerith's age. "For example, Leon's full name is Squall Leonheart. We call him Leon, though, because he prefers is. My name is Aerith Gainsborough, but I prefer to simply be called Aerith. I don't know Max's full name, but he told us that we could call him Max or Faust, and I picked Max."
"We wait because he wished to come with us, and it would be rude to leave him behind," Aerith expressed with another smile, though she giggled lightly this time at Youni's lack of understanding. "You never leave behind your friends. Remember?"

{Ignorance is bliss... until reality throws a Heartless siege at you.}
[Traverse Town : Second District Cafe] Soryuju listened to Rufus' words, and withheld a sigh. The Darkness in everyone's hearts... he had assumed as such, but never had any proof. If others were also guessing the same thing, then it must be true. However, as the man continued to speak, Soryuju just... didn't feel right. Whether it was the locale, or the man behind the desk, he simply didn't enjoy the vibes.
"I'm sorry, but I'm not interested in field research," Soryuju replied with a light shrug, turning lightly and giving a light wave over his shoulder as if to make it that much more nonchalant. "I don't speak for the others, of course, but I'm simply not your man. Au revoir."
With those words, Soryuju walked back into the main part of the Café, where he saw the few people that were still around at his table (Souzourou, Orielle, Suzuran, Kuumaru). "Sorry about that. What've I missed?"

{Ooo Goody! What are we torturing today?} (WARNING! OBER POST AHEAD!) [Castle Oblivion :: Commons Area] Haruko stood in awe as she saw "Vereor" beat the crap out of Diogenes. It was like a work of art before her and she was near tears in the end. When Vereor dropped him near her a rare sight came onto her face. The new Conclave members got to see her new evil face set in. "Take him. Do as you please. But he must be dead within 27 minutes and 32 seconds," was all she heard before she hopped off of the table she was on and her eyes became darker then usual. "Well well well," Haruko said before summoning her katana to her hand "You seemed to have stepped into my department. I wonder what I should do with you..." she trailed off before a spark went inside of her head. "Oo I know! How about I do THIS!" she quickly flicked her fingers at the man that was on death row. It seemed, at the time, as if it was nothing. However Diogenes would realize that soon he could not move around as much due to Sheol. She then touched her hand to his shoulder and stared deep into his eyes and whispered the word "Annul" as her hand glowed black. The black hand on Diogenes started to suck all of the energy from him but painfully. "Please feel free to scream. I like to hear my victums scream out in pain or in pleasure," she giggled as she drained most of the energy in his body. She then decided to take her katana and slice it right above his shoulder. "Don't worry the pain is almost over." she whispered into his ear. She then sliced it down a little more causing a few inches of his shoulder to be cut by her blade. She then walked a few feet away and waited. She aimed her blade straight at his body and made slices in the air. These slices turned into cresent shaped slices that hit his body in certain places even though she didn't actually hit him directly. "DIE!" she shouted and ran at him full force and stuck her blade right where his heart was supposed to be. She then turned it and sliced him hard causing his body to begin unraveling into black and silver strands of Nothingness; eventually, his body disappeared entirely, leaving only his almandite amulet on the ground surrounded by splatters of blood. She then walked over to the kitchen and grabbed a cloth in order to clean her mess. As she did so she hummed happy that she finally got a kill. "That was fun. I wish I could do it more often," she smiled and then went back to cleaning. [Captain's Note: I made an edit to the end of your post; it's underlined. Due to Diogenes being a Nobody, what you had described would not have happened.]

Solaris Sorry......I'll be taking my leave now.
{Traverse Town : Second District : Underground Sewer}
Listening to Merlin, he began to wonder how old the man was. It was incredible that he could tell so easily. When he continued on with how the poison was magic in origin. Thinking back, he wondered if it was the man that he had tried to attack. The one who made the giant cube that his Aero spell couldn't damage. Maybe he had done something to the water? Well, that was something to be pondered another day. Especially since the man mentioned a spell he knew.
Grateful to be of some help, the boy nodded eagerly. "Yes sir. My father taught me that spell...before..." Thinking back on the memories of Crinosis nearly brought a tear to his eye, but he shook his head and watched Merlin begin.
Almost immediately he could feel the workings of magic in the air. It was incredible. Noticing what Merlin was doing, he held his staff out over the water, closing his eyes as he began to focus his magic.
"Esuna." He said softly, focusing his magic towards the end of his staff. As he molded the magic, he thought of how it was a magic for helping others and he added those feelings to the magic. Shortly after the dust started flowing from Merlin's wand did it start flowing downwards from the orb at the top of Sol's staff, drifting into the water before disappearing.
