Ollen watched the brown and smiled at the surprised squeak, happy that the brown was at least seemingly healthy. She hoped again that Kyllae's touchin them so soon had not effected them. Picking one foot at a time up almost marching in place she tried to walk her tingling legs.

She did not pick up on any apprehension with the Andalusian egg rocking and watched it with interest, knowing that a brown would not be for her. She hoped to meet the newly impressed after all of this, see if they were anything like the dragons she had already met, also hoping to see if other colors would be as kind as the greens she spent time with.

Picking one foot up ad setting the other down she continued gazing at the eggs, she went over her bets in her mind, wondering if she would be the proud owner do another fire lizard, or if anyone owed her a mark.

Watching and waiting time ticked away pretty quick and, before he knew it, two of the four remaining eggs were shaking. One pretty brown took a moment to burst forth from his shell, and landed with a squeak. Tideal chuckled a bit and, similarly to Rumir's reminiscing, he was reminded of himself. It took him forever to get away from home, and he landed here startled like a dimglow who lost his way. That was a while ago, though. He looked to the other egg whose dragon had begun to make its way out. It was a fine, large shell and could very well house a bronze. It worried Tideal how few eggs remained, the count now down to two. This put an immediate damper on his mood and he already began to imagine himself walking away alone.

Well, at the very least, he'd most likely gained a friend out of the ordeal. Tideal guessed that Rumir would be less annoying when he wasn't so preoccupied with the hatching, or so he hoped. Frowning a bit the tall candidate turned to look at the crowd behind him before moving back to eye the newest arrivals once more.

One could almost hear Kyllae's eyes rolling, the motion was so exaggerated. "Oh, I never told you? That used to be a hobby of mine. Quite entertaining, really. I may be a dimglow sometimes, but my hair is never dull," she joked. A glance at the sands provided a little relief. A hatched brown, and another egg starting to rock. That was good, it seemed more dragonets were turning out alright. She was very aware of all the exits, though. If anything went wrong, it was in the best interest of her safety to get out of here as soon as possible.

She did have a strange, uneasy feeling. Something still didn't feel quite right, but at this point in time, there was nothing she could do about it, and she couldn't act upon it, so...she would ignore it in favor of her blond bronzerider buddy. "I can hardly imagine any room with you and Uktenath in it to be dull, but I can't suppose the lessons are very much fun either.

She drummed the fingers of her free hand against her leg. Oh, candidate lessons were terrible not because they were boring, though by the Queen's egg they could put anyone to sleep, but because everyone hated her there. Always trying to trip her, tease her, give her looks from across the room. It wasn't healthy, to be around that much hostility. By comparison, lessons made chores look almost enjoyable.

"Is Uktenath here?" she asked, sitting up a little to look around, trying to spot that brilliant, dark hide. "I know you say he's grown, but I am quite curious to see how much. You are feeding him properly, aren't you?" That last bit was teasing, of course. Who on Pern could neglect their dragon?

He was always pleased when his friends got along, though knew there was no reason these two shouldn't find each other's presence agreeable. E'si and N'tos, well, that was a different story! "You too? Shards, glad that didn't happen to us! I haven't been to many Hatchings, but this is the fiercest I've seen so far. Shards, I'll have to congratulate her later--and wish her luck." His grin was cheeky, but well-meant. "All right, to be fair, he had a reason..."

He stretched himself back a little, clearly relishing the beginning to this tale. "O'asis had me.. rather encouraged to convince people we needed a new Weyr, hm?" He murmured for S'van's ears only (and N'tos, if he was interested!) before he straightened and talked more loudly. "So I was seeing if I couldn't clog some of the toilets and make life a little uncomfortable in the barracks. I'd nearly gotten all of them and was about to start on the last when... well, he clearly needed it and ah, was not pleased I was about to choke the thing. He didn't manage to smack me up against the wall and beat me like he wanted, but he also didn't try to hunt me down!"

You should not have been doing that in the first place, anyway. Ianquith chided, though understood why he had to. And she had been good, and not objected, because she had given Uktenath her word. Oh... I did not like seeing them get hurt down there, and I do not understand why they were so angry with them... She sighed a little, just glad that no one had been seriously hurt.

"Hello," S'van said in return, trying on another smile. He liked N'tos, after all, though he didn't know the fellow Brownrider terribly well. "Really now? The poor man! J'ri..." J'riar, who was so laid back and full of laughter... teasing someone like that. It was typical behavior. Why did it faintly bother him? He must have been sensitive. More sensitive than usual. But it didn't matter, really it didn't. That other lad was probably just fine. "You rogue."

Oh, I see. That makes sense. I do not understand why they were angry, but Mine says that they were... touched too early? Also, he says that their mother is angry, so perhaps they are angry like she is. Which was about as much sense as the Brown could make of that. He looked down from his ledge, observing the dragonets, his greeting to Asceth friendly enough. Hello, what do you think of the Hatching?

She watched the brown hatchling with a little curiosity, though it was in vain as she had yet to see a female brownrider. Even though her father had assured her that he had met a few female brownriders, Weiwin was not concerned with trying to impress a brown dragonet- her father was, after all, good at telling tale tales, it being part of his job and all. With that in mind, practical Weiwin didn’t entertain the notion of impressing a brown – it wouldn’t work out, anyways as the majority of greenriders were females and Weiwin didn’t like the idea of possibly ending up in bed with one of them. She paid little attention to the brown hatchling and his awkward, almost endearing tendencies. The brown one had managed to hatch, in the end, and that was half the battle.

So, no, the little brown didn’t thrill her nor did the prospect of the Andalusian egg when it started to move. She did have an eye for the last two eggs of the clutch, though as they were just the right size for her. The Fresian was striking, and what the Sandalwood lacked in beauty it seemed to make up in character which she could appreciate. She wondered if any of the dragonets had sustained any trauma from that premature touching, so far everything seemed ‘Ok’ with the little ones barring, of course, the large number of casualties on the side of the Candidates. All in a day’s work, she thought with a little yawn. As long as the final two eggs managed to hatch, she was sure that the girl who had touched ‘em early wouldn’t be skewered alive by any disgruntled Candidates or Riders.

Santhea smiled. The brown sure was cute! Relaxed as she was, she could lean forward, to peek under another candidates arm to see the little dragonet. He was a lovely warm shade of brown, and seemed a little awkward on his feet - he could probably do with a few lessons from the watching bronze!

Her gaze switched steadily to and fro between the rocking Andalusian, the brown hatchling, and the as yet uncracked eggs. They were small, and she was more than a little worried for them - particularly the Sandalwood.. the lack of colour, could it mean lack of life? she wondered a little miserably. Her mood had shifted round, like it often did, and now she was feeling a little depressed, and ashamed for letting hope get to her. She would stand again of course - she was only just 17 turns after all. And she had promised H'dra. Her usual cheeky smile came back again, faltering only slightly when she looked at the two small eggs - she could only hope at least one held a green for her, or maybe a blue - those two flighty fighter colors had always held her attention. Dievath was a blue, and she knew him to be a really nice dragon!

Hopeful and fidgeting, Selachii felt his flagging spirits pop back up as he saw the little brown, and he watched avidly, taking a deep breath and trying to convince himself not to squinch his eyes shut. No way, no way, except for he was standing here, right, and not drowsing in the Weaver Hall again about to take a face-dive into his own badly-prepared loom like he did so often. That little brown looked a bit like candy, and after a moment Sela was reminded forcibly of his own stomach, empty as an old wineskin. Still, he pushed that small annoyance aside, watching.

Darcir watched as the blue finally found his partner. He gave a slight snort and a shake of his head, hoping upon hope that the blue's partner would be ready and willing to get the dragonet to work. Life was no easy ride, that was for certain and that little blue, striking as he might be, couldn't just slide his way through it.

There weren't many eggs left, and the candidate could taste the anxiety in the pit of his stomach. So much hype and it would all be over too soon. Well, at least the eggs weren't popping left and right in such a crazy fashion that he would be left shocked when all was said and over. This hatching was ridiculously slow, and at such an hour. . . . There would be other hatchings, but the male was already preparing himself to swallow his pride. His parents weren't going to be happy and then, even worse, was what Merik and Balin were going to think.

Shardit all they both just had to Impress. Though he was proud (and perhaps jealous) of both, it upset him that they were inadvertently making him look bad. Of all the candidates to room with, he had to pick the lucky few who wouldn't be left. . . . Which meant, much to his horror, new candidates would be moving in and he'd have to adjust yet again.

Oh bother.

Steeling his thoughts as another egg began to shake, Darcir watched with intrigue as another brown spilled on to the sands. Well then. . . One bronze, a handful of browns and blues, but only a few greens. Perhaps the last eggs would be the small speedy ladies. . .? Good for Cheoth, he mused, the clutch harbored a great many large dragons. All of Ista could be proud of that at the very least.

Brows knit and jaw taught, Darcir waited to see who the newest brown dragon might meet. The only two candidates he had cared to witness Impress had; the rest of his partners, just as desperate as he to attract a lifemate, were nobodies. Or at least unknowns. . . .

So who was the little brown meant for. . .? Only time would tell.

Something about Raedue's tone struck Zafir as strange. Or perhaps it was to word choice? Either way, there seemed to be a story behind the answer, probably one Zafir was expected to know already. And yet, he did not.

"Is there some reason they would have been sick? I hadn't heard. And with all these larger colors, I find it a little hard to believe, as well..."

That was the trouble with being so new around the Weyr, and with having so few friends. whatever bit of gossip, or bizarre event, might have happened to these eggs, the weaver knew nothing of it.

But, now, waiting for the chocolate brown to pick his lifemate, and for the last three to live themselves, was a s good a time as any to learn.

So many browns! Kallista tried to remember the dragon that flew Cheoth and couldn't. Browns were the workhorses of the wings and come to think of it, there hadn't been too many born during the last clutches. So perhaps this was a good thing, to make up for the lack of their color. Her back was starting to get sore. Sitting with Astarteth could only be comfortable for so long. Stretching carefully, for her Astar had fallen asleep, Kallista got up and climbed on top of her lovely green. She felt a little sorry for the females on the sands. With only three eggs left and the gold already gone, the pickings were slim.

Jessan breathed a sigh of relief and a cheeky looking brown cracked out. His blue eyes watched the little one and he sighed. Maybe after this Hatching, it was just best that he step down from the Stands. He was sure if he petitioned the Master Herder and went back to finish his journeymanship, he would be allowed to stay on. Since coming to the weyr, he had learned a lot about the dietary needs of young dragons and how not every dragon could stomach the same foods.

Or he could go back to his father's camp. With his cousin Impressed, his uncle would need some help. Suddenly remembering his coversation with Allende a while back, Jessan came to the realization that not everything rode on him Impressing.

What a weird time to come to a balance inside of himself.

"Another brown? Is that a good sign?" Jamusyn leaned forward. His throat was parned and he was looking forward to the Feast afterwards. It was mainly for that reason that he and his uncle had come. Some of their tithe would be in the night's meal. And there was nothing like enjoying the fruits of one's labor.

The older man leaned forward as well. Finally, after the whole time there, he spoke. "Only three eggs left. Our lad from the stables in still standing. Wonder if he'll want to stay?"

Jamusyn squinted his eyes and looked. Oh yes, a scrawny lad of fifteen that was often found feeding the runners. What was his name? Buras! There were plenty of boys and girls to work the stables, so it wasn't like it would be a loss. Nodding and looking back at the eggs, he waited.

The Thoroughbred shook himself, folding his wings by his side and glanced towards the Andalusian Egg, watching his sibling as the egg convulsed violently. It started with gentle rocking, but quickly degraded into spastic movements, twitching and pausing before shuddering again. The large brown crooned softly, tipping his head as he began to trod towards the boys. He was interrupted by a loud shriek.

A light blue had burst forth from the Andalusian in one great burst, sprawling on the ground and flaring his wings as he tried to throw himself to his feet. The brown snapped his wings open and whirled around to watch, alarmed by his much louder brother. The blue seemed too small for his egg or some such, something didn't add up, but he clearly wasn't concerned with his size as he dragged himself to his feet, shrieking again as he rushed towards the girls. He went headlong, too frenzied to notice he'd barreled right into a pair of candidates. The little dragon simply grunted at the force of impact and got to his feet, screaming shrilly as he searched. The sound was simply heart-breaking, the blue was clearly lost.

Meanwhile, the cautious brown had folding his wings tight as he moved briskly towards the males. The blue was concerning the already worried Thoroughbred and he wanted to be out of here, out of this chaos. The brown made a soft kreeling noise and started from the side of the males, nosing his way through as he searched for His.

Alanna was utterly shocked as the blue came barrelling towards the girls, watching it as it moved confusedly... she.. almost wanted to cry for the poor thing, who had ... oh dear... POOR OTHER FEMALE CANDIDATES. WERE THEY ALL OKAY? fjasdl;kf. It was all very... baffling.. but she felt so bad for the little blue who just looked as though it wanted to find his and then make a run for it.

Go on little guy! Finds yours!

Yes, she had to cheer for the poor thing and how lost it felt... she knew exactly how it felt to be 'lost' in a group that one had suddenly been thrown into.

Alanna just had to hope that one of these girls would do a good job of caring for the poor thing. Well, she had to assume that it would impress to one of the girls.

The only other option was that it was amongst the girls because it was... lost. Ahh!

Baby. Oh Faranth... Baby! Vera watched, stunned, as the little Blue went into a frenzy, terrified beyond words for the creature. It wasn't right. The way that he moved... the way that he shrieked. She had never heard of such a thing. "... Xeran? Marko? Does... do you know if he is all right?" They knew more of dragons than she did. ... Oh Shards. The sound tore at her heart strings. As a Harper, she was very sensitive to sound alone, and that... that, just about broke her heart. The poor little baby. "He'll be all right when he Impresses, won't he?" Wouldn't he? But he was screaming, and screaming. How utterly heart rending.

Jessmet's attention was forced back to the Sands when the little blue finally burst from his egg. His piteous creeling struck a chord in her heart, which seemed to be residing somewhere in her throat.

Ailurath's eyes resumed their worried whirling. The pair tensed, waiting for both the brown and the blue to find their partners.

"Shards, I know, I know. Ianquith already lectured me enough about it. It's not like I meant to deny him his right to relieve himself! I'd have let him use that one before I really messed with it, but it was a little too--" He shut up suddenly at the sudden scream, Ianquith's alarm shooting straight through him and making his heart clench with sudden apprehension. "Oh Shards," He whispered, unconsciously rising from his seat as though to better seen the little blue dragon, the way he'd startled the brown and rushed past as though hardly even noticing. Nearby, the little green was beginning to show noticeable signs of distress.

~

Ormeteth had moved so quickly in front of G'ran that the boy was left momentarily confused by the motion, turning to see the little brown fully alert and his wings slightly unfurled. What was wrong with that dragonet? Couldn't he find His? G'ran felt himself getting tense, stomach knotting even as he set his teeth. What was going on?
