Ariel bgan working toward a crescendo; she wanted to finish their song, and have an opportunity to speak. This other girl was fascinating, and her music told what seemed a small part of an interesting story. Ariel wanted the rest of this story. She began to add intensity to the tune, and lightened her own part once again.

Ash fell back and let the other girl take control of the song, turning over leadership. She let her music follow the violin, building sound on top of sound until the notes piled up into a grand finale of sorts, and her fast chrods slowed down, trailing off so that the ending of the duet was as natural as falling asleep. She looked at the violinist again, ignoring her slightly sore finger tips, and smiled, pray that she'd remember half of what they played when she composed something new.

As the music faded, so did the glow of her wings. Ariel smiled again, returning her violin to its case. "Beautiful. It's been a long time since I played a duet that was so much fun. We should play again soon. I'm Ariel; what's your name?" Her wings rustled softly as she stood. She walked over to the other musician, extending her hand.

Ash took a deep breath and pray that this conversation went over well. "I'm Ash," she said, gently shaking Ariel's hand, "You play the violin really well. I was impressed." She stood slowly, straightening her shirt and setting down her guitar, so they were eye level with one another. "I'd like to play together again to. I've never heard someone improvise so well."

"I've been playing since I was about six, and I took to it like a fish to water, if you'll pardon the cliche. Improvisation seems to come naturally to me, though you weren't at all bad yourself. What's your dorm number? Maybe we can get together tomorrow after class." Ariel is glad that this seems to be going well; she is in need of at least one good friend. "Which reminds me, I apologize for butting in like that, but your song sounded like you could use some cheering up."

"I don't mind you joining at all. It was exciting to have another instrument to play off of for a change, and I have some rather interesting news ideas for my next song because of it." Ash said, surprised at herself for not messing up so far, "I haven't quite memorized my dorm room number yet. I'm new, so I'm still learning my way around. Maybe we could meet up at your room when you want to play next?" She hoped she hadn't come off as too clingy. She wanted to make a friend, and this girl was probably the most interesting person she'd met in ages.

((Neither of us ranks enough to make our own dorm thread, but we can post in the general dorm threads. That'll have to do.))
"Sure; it's girl's dorm number 216. Drop by whenever you feel like it. I look forward to it. On that note, isn't this old auditorium wonderful? It's got so much power; so many old songs, so many old voices. It's a pity it's so badly cared for. I'd love to see what it looked like when it was newly built. Of course, back then it didn't have the resonance it has now, but it must still have been beautiful."

"I suppose so. I wonder why they let it fall into such disrepair? I mean, it's not as if the school is tight on money or anything. Maybe it's just under used?" Ash thought out loud, taking in her surroundings in more detail. It was true that the hall was a little scruffy, but there was nothing that a little hard work wouldn't fix. "Maybe we could fix it up a little bit inbetween practicing. With permission from the school board, of course."

Ariel grinned, taking in the comment that so closely mirrored her own thought of a few minutes before. "You know, I was thinking pretty much the same thing when I walked in here. It probably wouldn't be too hard to get a few other musicians interested in fixing this place up, and I'm sure the administration wouldn't mind. We should look into this."
Inwardly, Ariel was as excited as she'd ever been. She'd managed to successfully make a new friend, find a powerful place for her music to thrive, and a goal to occupy her ambitions, all in the same day; she was, in a word, content.

"That'd be fantastic. Um...I'm not too good at talking to other people most of the time. Maybe I could make flyers advertising it? Ad you could talk to the administration. I'd probably end up stuttering and falling all over myself if I tried..." She said, thinking about the last time she'd had to talk to an administrator. "I'll help with everything else, of course. We might even be able to get some new equipment for this place- amps and speakers and such."

Ariel's eyes widened slightly in surprise; Ash had come across as shy, certainly, but not as socially inept as she made herself out to be. "Really? You seem to be doing just fine right now. But if you insist, then I'll be glad to handle any necessary meetings with the administration."
She glanced at her watch, and was mildly surprised; their duet had lasted longer than she'd thought. "Well, I'd better be going; drop by my room sometime, we can play a bit and talk some more about fixing this place up. Thanks again for playing with me." She smiled yet again, truly glad to have made a friend at Ria.

Ash smiled and nodded her head as she bagan to pack up her guitar. "I'll see you around soon then. Maybe I'll run by your room tomorrow? I've got some nice machines we can use to play with our sound. Anyways, I guess I'll get going now too." She stood and nodded her head to her new friend. "See you tomorrow!" With that she practically bounced out of the hall, delighted to have finally made a friend at one of the many schools she'd attended.

Ariel left the hall much the way she'd come: quietly, thoughtfully, gracefully. She stepped lightly down the center aisle, walking past the crumbling seats and over the tattered carpet. She hummed as she walked, a soft, gentle tune of hope and friendship, and the aura projected by her wings was brighter even than it had been at the height of her earlier performance.
She was grinning as she looked forward to seeing Ash again the next day and playing together again. As she strode through the door leading to the grounds, she did a joyous little twirl, her skirt flaring and her hair floating slightly away from her body.

Rille wandered into the music hall, absentmindedly whistling. She was feeling happier than she had since she arrived here, and for once wasn't thinking about leaving to go back home. She set up in a corner of the hall, not even noticing if there were other people there or not. She pulled a piece of music at random from her bag, and smiled. Pachelbell's Canon in D for Flute. Of course, it was written for more than one instrument, but she still loved to play it. She played the opening notes softly, since they were harmony, but began to play louder and louder as her part took up the melody.
As Ananda left the training hall, she noticed Rille going into the music hall. She ran after her cousin, and stopped just inside the door, listening to Rille play.
