OI! EVERYONE! CALM YOUR NERVES! [...] Reisen, you may be trying to use sophisticated language, but you're dropping to childish behaviours now. That' much worse than not knowing a language.

We're just ******** around, tengu. No worries.

Childish how?

You also misspelled "that's".

Why am I greatly amused about the fact that a rabbit and a crow are arguing? ... Any grammatical errors there?
PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2010 8:01 pm

Oh my! A typo! I feel absolutely horrid! xDD

If you're all joking around, then there is no reason to use language. ._.

Mid Boss! You're opinion doesn't count! Dx Go and play with Laharl!

EDIT: It should have been, "Was there any grammatical errors in my previous statemen?"

As long as everyone is having fun and no one is stepping on one another's toes, you kids play nice now ^ ^ (I think the heat is frying my brain...). You know we can settle this diplomatically by everyone agreeing to speak "Engrish" instead, we can take notes from Rumia. ("...if you want to alive even a little a lot." xd )

We can take notes from Masamune Date too.

BEST. ENGRISH. EVER.
Bottom line.

"PUT YA GUNS ON!" YEAH!!! xd

Hey did you know that the original hellsing opening was in "engrish"?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-KxsdWX9xE

The song is undoubtably bad a**, but I can't make sense of the lyrics at all...

"Don't be cool vibration
revolufatasy
Tell me fool talk show day and rain
Every stardom the rating
Don't stop horror show inner darken
jus see ra ra oh"

I think it comes off better as incomprehensible mumbling. In either case even if you thought the original Hellsing anime was a disgrace to the series, you still got to like the music.

Personally, I don't care either way.

Anime A Is Anime A, there's no changing that irrefutable fact of the universe.

But it is good music nonetheless.

Also, there was this odd vid I came across called "Touhou Goldenbat", it had a really awesome tune for it, it made me think of Hellsing, mostly because of the fanged-mouth-with-lettering in the intro.
The text you put for the Engrish in that song you linked to reminded me of that.
Iremember that it was...well, it's hard to describe, and the vid's been taken down since. confused

"You're" should be "your", and "statemen" should be "statement". Google Chrome has auto-spell-check.

"You're" should be "your", and "statemen" should be "statement". Google Chrome has auto-spell-check

I think Shameimaru was actually right. "You're" is a contraction of "you are", so the statement is "If you are all joking...". Meanwhile "your" suggests possesion, such as "Your mistake" =P. In either case you can't take the english language too seriously, I mean they don't even know if Y is a vowel or not (well...sometimes), and how does a "p" which has a "p" sound and "h" which has a "h" sound if put togeth make an "f" sound like pharmacy, but in a name like Stephen make a "v" sound, I mean PHUCK! DX

To me, rules and grammar are more important than intent and getting the idea across.

This is plain foolish:

Grammar, syntax and semantics are all equally important for a language.

The funny thing is that there are situations in which it is OK to bend them a little, particularly amongst a group that does not require such a formal interpretation of the language.

I used to be like you, until we got a class on languages, and suddenly I realized how ridiculous that way of thinking was.

I also started reading more contemporary authors: Authors that experimented with words, with sentences, with meaning and form.

Then at some point I stopped giving a damn about how other people wrote things, as long as I understood them.

And then I also started playing with my language, at points becoming obtuse and incoherent, just to test the limits of comprehension.

That's how I came to understand that "Communication > Language". This also affected my art and my comics a lot: I started doing more visual things, but using written words to create a connection with the pictures, trying to communicate a whole idea.

I don't think I'm quite there yet, but at least I try.

Why thank you Reisen, thank you for that ever so helpful info.
Because now I know what bothers you.

Reisen has screwed up: Now we have one of her weakness.

oh exploitable.

Coming up with an English language writing system that features an one-to-one correspondence between graphs and phonemes can't be that hard. Hell, if some monks from 200 years ago did it for Scottish Gaelic, then modern linguists should be able to do it with no major trouble.
