She folded her ears behind her, growling quietly in her throat before jogging along the path her and Kaegan had burned time and time again. She would run ahead, nose down, slow down to huff to make sure she was on the right track. An hour or so later they passed the storage facilities Kaegan was talking about- they were more or less completely empty now, save for a broken down crate here or there. She paused as she passed it, raising her nose to catch a whiff of the breeze before she began jogging west, following a winding path around toward where the sun had set.

Isiah laid back down on the cot, completely content for the moment. He let his eyes roll shut, falling into an easy, drunken sleep, snoring lightly in the back of his throat.

An hour or so later Jane stopped in her tracks, her ears rising. She looked behind her to see if Q was still there, releasing her breath in a huff. She waited for Q to catch up, scratching along he ground that she found, finding the crease of a wooden floor beneath it.

Bornes followed the dog, keeping a look out for any reflective surfaces, which he knew he would be able to spot easily enough. Jane kept walking, so Bornes kept following.

It was beginning to sink in that Bornes really did need this animal's help, but that didn't make it any less crappy feeling.

He had begun to lag behind after about an hour as his eyes scanned the area more closely. He didn't want to return to Kaegan empty handed.
Jane whined, and he jogged up to her, tossing the bag near to him and seeing the wood peaking from the ground. A storm cellar? There would be loads of canned food in there.

He dusted off the wood, padding around with his hands, looking for a handle. He foudn one, and pulled up. The handle broke off. He tossed it and growled to himself, trying to pry the door open with his hands, only after many minutes of frustrating embarrassment he finally figured out it slid open, not lifted.

Regardless it was now open and Bornes jumped inside.

Jane waited for him atop the opening, lying down, crossing her paws neatly to wait for him to finish whatever business humans did down there.

The cellar was stocked with candles, jars upon jars of preserves, canned meat, canned vegetables, sterno... it was dusty but neat, apparently unharmed by the blast other than having a good few inches of dirt and dust accumulated on the floor and on the shelves.

Bornes yipped with delight.
"Ah, this is the motherload!"

He looked around, trying to figure out what to get. He went for the meat first, putting a jar or two in the bag before thinking better of it and grabbing a jaw for himself, unscrewing the pressurized lip with a pop as the air tight seal was lifted, and chewing on a piece of meat raw. It was Venison. He moaned. He loved Venison.

Still chewing on the raw meat, the juices dribbling down his face, he brought the jar up to door and chucked a piece of meat toward Jane.
"Deer!" he shouted after he swallowed the rest. "Have you ever had Deer?!"
It was the happiest day of his life!

He gobbled down about half of the strips, then threw the rest to Jane as well, tossing the now-empty jar aside.

Now that he was genuinely full, he began packing a variety of other things. He didn't want to pack too much meat, as he knew that Kaegan was alpha and inevitably he would get first choice, leaving Bornes to have none of it. So if Bornes kept his scout job, he could eat here as he picked the food up, without anyone being the wiser. Except Jane, of course. But it's not as if Kaegan could understand her.

He put in jars of fish and cans of various things, more spam, some fruit. He took a few candles and one can of sterno for good measure and spotted a weather radio, but left it alone.

He found a step stool and dragged it over to the opening, stepping upon it and first throwing the now-full and quite heavy bag out the opening before pulling himself out.

Once he was out, he shut the door and kicked some dirt over it. Yes, it was dishonest, but it's not like they'd ever know.

After that, he picked the bag up and looked up at the sky.
"We need to rush, I can't get stuck out here when the sun rises," he said, beginning to walk back from where they had come from.

Jane huffed the deer she'd been thrown, wolfing it down hungrily, nearly inhaling the venison. She licked her maw clean, looking up at Q with a canine smile once he emerged. Nothing like food to solve problems.

Kaegan was all ready long in bed by the time Q and Jane arrived home- Jane jogged back into his domicile, lying down obediently at his feet while he slept.

Isiah was up by then, waiting by the well. He hadn't done much since their debauch other than snooze, probably waking maybe a half hour before Q returned. He looked up, eyebrow quirked. "Any luck?" he paused. "Guess so, based on the bag."

Bornes and the dog made quick work of the walk home, and by the end, the hybrid's legs were burning. He watched Jane walk into Kaegan's home, and began to follow until Isiah addressed him.
Oh, you wouldn't believe--" he grinned. But he had to keep the secret to himself.
"It was grand," he finished, not willing to give the details.

He turned back to Kaegan's home, and quietly peeked in, slipping the duffel bag near the door while the man slept.
He heard a rustle other than from sleeping. The bag had already left his hand, so he looked up to see Tsurai staring at him.

Bornes stayed silent and didn't move. He knew humans couldn't see in the dark very well, so if he was just still, perhaps Tsurai would think he was a play on the eyes and leave him alone.

It took a good minute, but eventually Tsurai felt just that way, and turned away to go back to sleep. Bornes slipped out back to Isiah, giving him a glance before working the well again, getting some water, but doing so as quietly as possible.

"What did you do while I was gone?" he asked the other man in a hushed tone.

Isiah shrugged. "Slept a little. Covered up the gin. I dunno, not much to do around here at night, everyone's pretty much asleep." He rolled his head on his shoulders. "You've been gone awhile. Long walk?"

Bornes drank the water from the bucket eagerly, proudly thinking to himself that he'd earned it, and let the bucket down for a second helping while he answered Isiah.
"Yes. Definitely. Maybe eighteen miles each way."

The bucket came back up, and he drank the muddy pool before setting the bucket aside in its proper place.

"I don't think we ever made that kind of time, eh??" he elbowed Isiah in play.
"Come on, let us go sleep? I need rest if I am to do that again tomorrow." By that he was referring to food hunting not.. that other thing.
In fact, the other thing, Bornes had completely forgotten about. He was slightly buzzed but more sober than not. He simply was giddy because of the long exercise coupled with the very good meal.

He began to walk back to where he and Isiah were living, waiting up for Isiah if needed.

Isiah assumed the good mood was attributed to their trist, following after him with his hands shoved in his pockets. He sat down on the end of the cot once they arrived, folding his hands behind his head, smiling at him. "Good to see you in a better mood."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 7:05 pm

Bornes sat on the nearest thing he could sit on- which happened to be a box- loudly with a groan of relief.

"Ohhh, of course I'm in a good mood!" He replied. "I Had--" he stopped himself.
He knew if he told Isiah what he had eaten, the other would beg for some. And that was the best case scenario. If Kaegan was told. Or if Isiah had any respect for authority... "I had a great a time," he finished, softer.

"Now let us sleep, because I am tired." He didn't get up from the chair/box. Instead he cocked his head a bit. "Is it okay if I have the cot again?"

Isiah chuckled. "I bet you are," he began, quietly, stepping off of the cot to lie down on the floor. "All yours," he purred, looking up at him with an easy smile, folding his hands behind his head.

Bornes got off his box and walked over to the cot, laying heavily on it with a sigh, hanging his feet over the edge.

After his moment of relaxation, he turned to look at Isiah on the floor.
"And why are you in such a good mood?" he sneered, grinning.

Isiah turned onto his side to face him, resting his face on his hands. He quirked a brow upward. "You know why," he offered quietly, almost laughing to punctuate his sentence. "You were there."

Bornes had twisted his body so his forearms were on the mattress, holding himself up, while from midsection down he was lying on his side.

He quirked a brow. "Oh?" He tried to think back. He'd admittingly drank too much on too empty of a stomach with too much sleep beforehand and too much of a forced sobriety afterward. Hid mind was all here now, but his blood content wouldn't prove his new complete sobriety.

After a small moment he seemed to bounce back, remembering bits and pieces. Of the beginning of it. "From our kisses?" That wasn't the best way to word the question, but Bornes' slang for "kissing a lot" was currently lacking.

Isiah rolled his eyes back, still smiling, rolling onto his back with a thump, folding his hands behind his head. "Yeah, that's it. The kissing, baby," he said with a soft purr. He looked over and winked at him, licking his lips before shutting his eyes, crossing his legs over his ankles.
