"I-I'm fine..." Bethany stammered, but didn't put up a fight as she was placed on the table. "I... didn't see anyone.. but the doorknob is silver... and as far as I know only lycans are sensitive to silver... right?" she asked, her voice starting to calm down a little bit, though she had yet to let go of the large knife.

I nodded "As far as I know, though I must admit my study of supernaturals is vastly incomplete." I finished picking the glass off the floor and wiping the blood up. "I must admit Bethany in some odd way you are my lucky charm. I've been looking for one ever since I turned, and within two nights staying here one attempts breaking and entering." I washed the dish-towel of blood and lifted Bethany's foot cleaning the blood off it. Then I looked around realizing I forgot the bandages. "Here Bethany keep cleaning those wounds, and where is your first-aid kit?" I said as I handed her the wet dish-towel.

She hesitantly set down the knife before taking the towel. "There's one in each of the bathrooms, and one up in the attic, on my lab table up there." she said calmly as she picked up her right foot and rested it on her left knee, before preceeding to pull tiny shards of glass out with her bare fingers. "I'm not bleeding all that badly... I don't think I will need any band-aids though. Maybe some tweezers and a magnifying glass... and rubbing alchohol to clean the spots that got cut..." she told him.

I nodded as I headed for the nearest bathroom to get the first-aid kit. On my way I grabbed a magnifying glass from her desk in the kitchen and set them next to her on the table. "There you go. I'm going out to see if I can't find what tried to break in or maybe scare something else waiting out there." I turned and headed for my room to pull on a shirt and my gloves. With my hands protected I began to head outside.

Bethany nodded and got to work on pulling the rest of the shards out of her feet with the aid of the magnifying glass and tweezers.
Other than the usual chirping of birds and crickets in the early pre-dawn, it was very quiet outside. The light breeze only left the barest hint of the lycan, a whisper of the wolf mixed in with a trace of Old Spice.
Bethany bit her lip as she pulle dout the last peice of glass she could see and poured alcohol on the soles of her feet, biting down on her bottom lip even harder to keep from whimpering out as the liquid stung the tiny cuts in her feet.

I found the trail easily but it came to a dead end. "Odd." I muttered as I looked around. The trail ended near the forest outside of town. I went into the forest to see if I could pick up a new trail but nothing appeared. I decided to head back to Bethany's house and see if I could find out what exactly happened outside of her house. When I got back to her house I looked around and found the tracks I had followed earlier, but other than that nothing was out of the ordinary. I walked up to the door and was bout to grab the door handle I realized I wasn't wearing my gloves anymore, I was about to take them out when I decided to conduct an experiment. Reaching out I tapped the knob with my index finger and felt a slight heat. I sighed and grabbed the knob, clenching my teeth to keep from howling into the night. Letting go I looked at my hand and noticed my palm wasn't seared like it felt but just slightly red. "Hmm.....not pure silver...." I put my gloves on and walked into the house again.

Bethany had finished taking care of her feet by the time Josh returned, and was holding onto the knife again when he entered the house. "I... walked around outside while you were following the trail... did you smell cologne too?" she asked.

I nodded "Yes, but I thought it was the people of the neighborhood; I didn't even think that the werewolf could be wearing it." I took my gloves off and stuffed them in my pocket. "I lost the trail at the forest as if the creature flew. Though I suppose it could have climbed trees. So how are your legs?" I said with a hint of worry in my voice.

"They sting a little from the rubbing alcohol, but I didn't get any kind of serious injury. I've stepped on broken things before... I was... well, am... a little bit of a klutz." she told him as she willingly handed over the knife to him this time. "I don't think it came from one of the neighbors, or else I wouldn't have smelled it. Though it's been a while since I've smelled that brand of cologne..." she stopped. "Oh, hell, what if that wasn't someone trying to break in?" she asked adn ran to her room to slip on some socks and shoes, as if suddenly hit with a revelation.

I looked at her curiously as she ran to her room. "What do you mean?" I was confused and now that the adreneline wasn't pumping into my system I was reminded of the time and my eyes grew heavy. "Oh yeah I almost forgot, you're doorknob isn't pure silver. Though it does have enough to leave my kind a bit ticked." I said as I made me a glass of water.

"When I first moved here, one of my roommates, David, was a guy that wore Old Spice cologne... but he wasn't a werewolf. He stayed here for three months, so I would have noticed something like that. But if something happenned to him since then... he knew I was doing research, he might have been looking for help." Bethany explained as she finished putting on her sneakers. She walked into the kitchen. "I knwo they aren't pure silver... could you imagine what that would cost? Anyways, I'm going to go see if I can find him... you said the trail ended at the woods outside of town?" she asked as she opened a door under the sink and pulled out a flashlight.

"Yeah it did. But I would be careful if I were you." I said as I remembered the man from earlier and the woman who now had one of my overcoats. I mentally noted that I would have to ask Bethany where I would be able to find an overcoat in this town. "One second." I said as I went to my room and grabbed a dog whistle. I walked back into the kitchen and offered it to her. "In case your in trouble just blow the whistle and I'll be there to help." I said.

She hesitated before taking the whistle and putting it in her pocket. "Thanks." she said. "If it's David, I hope that he's not too much wolf to recognize me if I run into him. And if it's something else... the sun will be up soon enough, that should help if I have to whistle while running for my life." she said with a weak smile as she opened the back door, pausing for a moment. It was just dark enough that she couldn't see clearly, as the Old Spice scented lycan walked down the alley towards her back yard on all fours.
"Josh... that's a dog... right? Just a really big dog...?" she whispered, a touch of fear in her voice.

I looked over her shoulder and saw a werewolf walking to her back yard. "Well the only werewolf I've ever seen was brief and frightening; I don't remember much of what it looked like except glowing red eyes and a huge dripping maw. But I would say that is not a dog." I said as I stepped outside. "Go ahead and try talking to it if you want, I'll be between you two incase it attacks." I said as I got ready to change.

Bethany nodded and swallowed nervously as she followed him out the door. As soon as she was in the yard, the large black wolf leaped easily over her fence. The only thing that gave it away as a non-normal wolf was the black as night fur and the dark green eyes.
"D-david?" Bethany whispered, her eyes wide. The wolf sniffed the air and looked right at Josh giving a warning growl.
