"But Aragost is a fun teacher... well... not fun in the way most people would think... but it's good to learn from him," Lin replied.
She would liked to have Aragost teach her... which he did when she sought him out, but she was already stretching herself thin as it was.
"As for out there... not until I'm ready, and not for long periods of time no," Lin replied, "I can't imagine it being comfortable... but just to know."

Feng giggled at that, she couldn't help it, since she knew he was showing off to them. Then again who wouldn't at that age? It was a neat gift.
"That is..." Ryu replied with a wrly smile, "Quite useful."

Adan giggled and had the decency to blush slightly.
"Well, I couldn't do it if Ada didn't train them so good," he admitted. "Else they wouldn't know their name, to come when they're called."
He looked up at the horses as they drew near, then looked up at Ryu.
"Can you hold me up so I can put the bridle on Brego?" he asked. "I can't reach by myself."

"Aye," Arwen agreed, "but I bet that if he tried to make Ahren learn from paper that Ahren still wouldn't want to. He just doesn't like it. He says it's boring. I bet even Aragost would have trouble teaching him like that. Still, he would make him behave at least. He can be very scary sometimes."
She shuddered involuntarily. "I don't know why, but sometimes ... he just ..."
She trailed off. There were no words to describe her ancestor when he decided to be scary. It was just not at all pleasant to be anywhere near him.

"Gives off this air that makes you want to go to hiding even though you know... that he has done nothing well.. that you can see to actually be scared of. He just is," Lin replied, knowing what Arwen had meant, after all she had been on the receiving end of such feeling.

Ryu nodded, being the one to pick up Adan so he could put the bridle on. Trusting the boy to be able to do so, since he was the one raised around horses more or less.

Adan slipped the bridle over the horse's head and tied it on snugly, making sure the bit was properly between its teeth. Then he looked over his shoulder at Ryu and grinned again.
"Thanks, now can you put me on his back?" he requested. "I can't get up without a mounting stone and it's way out somewhere else."

Arwen nodded seriously.
"I like it better when he's not scary," she murmured solemnly. "But I know that sometimes he has to be like that when something's wrong, or when he's trying to do something."
She smiled. "But if he's like that to make Ahren do his school work, then I bet he'll have to actually do his work and not just complain about it and run away as soon as he can!"

Ryu nodded at this, it did make sense seeing as Adan was not tall enough to mount. He carefully lifted Adan up and set him on the horse gently.
"There you go, are you okay up there?"

Lin was sure that Ahren wasn't that bad, but then again she couldn't imagine hating work that much. At least not to her knowledge, and personally she thought giving Ahren the scary feeling was a bit of overkill.
"Hmm... well that is true," Lin mused, "Where is he anyways? Ahren I mean."

Adan grinned and sat up straight, holding the reins expertly in his left hand.
"Are you gonna mount in here, too?" he asked Ryu, looking down at him, "or are we gonna ride somewhere outside the paddock? Cos if we are then you gotta open the gate for us to get out first."
He motioned towards the gate just beside the stable, past the corral.

"Um ... I guess with Papa somewhere," Arwen murmured thoughtfully, looking around. "Sometimes I wonder what they always do when they're out there ... I mean I get all the education I need about the forest and everything, and I don't spend a tenth of the time with Papa that Ahren does."
She paused.
"Though, to be fair, I don't know what Papa does all the time either," she admitted.

Lin thought about it, "I can't think of it neither, except he's probably doing whatever it is a person does to run the ranch."
However she didn't know how one would go about running the ranch in the first place. It wasn't one of those things she looked closely into.

Ryu actually wasn't sure which would be the best course of action. He glanced over his shoulder at Feng who looked like she was thinking hard.
"Is there any place you'd like to go?" Feng asked.

"I want to go see Grandmother and Grandfather again, up in Ebonscarp!" he giggled. "But I bet we can't go, it's a long way there - a whole week riding!"
To tell the truth, he didn't really know where else to go.
"Maybe just around the ranch a bit?" he suggested.
