"Emotions?" Cassidy blinked. "Really?" And immediately, her mind went into full sci-fi geek mode. "Smell-based empathy... not completely unheard of... I didn't know there were any lizards could do anything like that, but... well, there are pheromones you could be picking up on, and..."

She cut herself off, and blushed. "Sorry."

Amaya's eyebrows rose, rather surprised at what she was being told. "No, keep going." This was more information they she would probably ever get out of the staff, especially with her being deathly afraid of them. "What're... pheromones?"

"Well." Cassidy tapped her fingers together. "I'm not an expert or anything. Farthest thing from it, and I'm probably getting this just a little wrong, but people and animals are always creating these chemicals, in sweat and stuff, called pheromones. The human sense of smell is, well, not great, but a lot of people think we can pick up on the various smells on a subconscious level. The general belief is that they're mostly associated with, well, sex appeal and stuff. But, well, if you can train a dog to alert epileptics to oncoming seizures, they're obviously smelling something we can't." She chewed her lip for a moment. "I'm all over the place, sorry. But it is entirely possible that you can smell the chemicals people are releasing all the time, and the way they change according to mood. That's... that's... well, that's incredible."

Amaya listened intently as Cassidy explained, rather amazed. Maybe being able to taste people's emotions wasn't that bad after all. It still felt kind of like she was invading people's privacy of their own emotions, though.

To test it out her long, pink tongue came out of her mouth for merely a second for she quickly drew it back in. Ugh, her new tongue was disgusting looking. She did however pick up a few emotions from Cassidy in that short period of time, some she couldn't really place yet since the whole new sense still confused her.

That was just, well, a little gross. But, Cassidy had to admit, it couldn't be any worse than her own tongue.

"I guess I sort of have to wonder how strong my own sense of smell's going to get, then," she said. "And how much stronger yours will get, too."

The whole idea was... well, pretty damn cool, if it came down to it.

"Yeah... guess it might be kinda cool, actually." Amaya gave a tiny smile, still weirded out by her own tongue. Aside from brushing her teeth she never forced herself to look at it and she was just now getting a hang of her new feet, the tongue could wait. "So you have a snakes tongue then?" She winced after the last word slipped from her mouth. Cassidy was sensitive about that kinda stuff.

"Yeah." Cassidy grimaced a little, then let her forked tongue flicker out from between her lips for a second. Amaya did smell a bit different from the last time she'd seen her, anyway, but that was hardly a surprise. "I'm always fighting it, you know. I guess it's instincts or something, to be sticking my tongue out every few moments, but... well. It's sort of creepy." She shrugged, trying to pretend this didn't bother her as much as it did.
PostPosted: Tue Oct 04, 2005 4:35 pm

"Yeah, I know what you mean. The urge to stick mine out is there but it's not really strong... I still can't look at it without getting grossed out, though. I'm just now getting used to my feet." She looked underneath the table at them and curled her toes in. "At first I couldn't even get myself to walk... then I learned that I have to walk on tiptoes so I don't end up tripping." The air-conditioning was starting to get to her and she would have shivered if she could, but settled for rubbing her arm through her shirt.

"The feet are actually, well, sort of neat looking," Cassidy admitted, with an earnest grin. "Really, they are. Although I bet they'd be weird to walk on, yeah. You seem to be doing okay."

She found herself stifling a yawn. Getting sleepy... yes... just, a nap right here would be good... no, wait. She needed to get out in the sun, didn't she? She peered curiously at Amaya. "Are you cold, too? Maybe we should, well, get outside."

"Guess they are kinda neat..." Amaya smiled slightly and finished off her salad, swallowing before speaking. "Actually, yeah." She nodded and stood up. "I think the air-conditioning is starting to sink in." A gloved hand went up and rubbed her arm again to keep herself a little warmer.

Cassidy swallowed the last of her sausages. "I think you're right. I'm starting to get a bit foggy-headed myself." She stretched as she got up, rubbing at her hairless arms. "I think I'll just go sit in the sun for a while, or something. Read a bit. Yeah."

She pursed her lips thoughtfully. "It's been pretty good, though, having someone else to discuss this sort of thing with." Cass smiled. "I dunno if I ever told you--I'm in number three. I guess, well, us reptiles gotta stick together or something." She shrugged.

Amaya nodded in agreement and bussed her tray. "I'm in number 20. I think I'm gonna go back there and... bask for a little bit." She winced at the word, hateing to even mention it. "I see you around Cassidy." With a smile and a wave she headed out of the cafeteria.

The sparkling sun kissed the trees as she left her duplex and she turned ehr gaze towards it. In days gone by she would have cowed away from such a light, afraid that it meant the coming of 'them'. Those huge deep pools of blue glistend int he green dappled sunlight and a deep breath filled her lungs as she took her first outside breath of the day. Her lifehad become rather routine of late, cafeteria, beach, cafeteria, home, of course she seemd to do this on her own an awful lot more than she used to. Infact she hadn't seen hide nor hair of any of her 'fuzzy' companions for nerry on a week. It upset her a touch that noone came to speak to her and already her brain had settled back in to it's quiet stupor, without the stimulation of others she had no need to speak and perhaps even now she was once again forgetting how. She licks her lips stepping off the porch in to the full blazing sun. The sun, she was a worshiper of it now and her slightly bronzed skin was proof of this.

A hop skip found her leaving her leaving the safty of her porch on her usual journey towards the cafeteria, only, it was interrupted. A flash of white attracted the slender femmes attention and she turned to it. Her breath almost stopped, perhaps infact it did, perhaps she simply held it, but the silence of the island suddenly cascaded over those newly sensitive ears, her eyes going wide she suddenly broke in to a run.

The flash of white again, she sped up, her bare feet stampeeding the soil, leaving long toe marks in the soil. Her eyes went wider, ehr heart raced and leapt in to her throat, this wasn't fear, it was exhileration and then, she leapt, rolled and landed amidst the most deathly squeel.

Her breath came short and sharp and she panted, panted like a dog as she clung to the bundle in her arms, a small fluffy bundle of white with brown patches. She clung to it, holding to it for dear life as it kicked and squirmed and finally lay still in her arms. The rabbits breathing was unbeleivably fast, it's eyes massive and dialated, it was frightend out of it's wits but the long, pericing scream that had rent the morning air had long vanished and colche simply looked at it confusedly. She bites ehr tongue, unsure of what she was supposed top do next. EWhy had she chased the cute and fluffy thing any way? Why had she held so tightly? Why did she have the urge to bite it. Her brow furrowed and she pouted getting to her feet and still clinging to the poor terrified bunny.

The Cafeteria loomed in to her blue, rather blurry eyed sight, such a run had been exhausting, it had barely been a thirsty second chase, the rabbit in her arms was young, had it been fully grown she never would have caught it. but she had and after she had, it had simply become something very strange to her. She enterd the cafeteria looking for somone to tell her what to do, only to find noone there, The Cafeteria woman stood behind the counter. A brow raised as colche approached and the woman moved, reappearing with a bowl full of cabbage sprigs as well as a meal for colche. The girl smiled holding to the rabbit still as the woman pointed to the cabbage then at the rabbit. She nodded an understanding and went and sat at the picknic table picking up a cabbage sprig she held it to the bunny, still, rather confused, why had she caught the thing? What was it? The urge to bite it had receeded at seeing a good hearty full english breakfast but she wanted to make sure the bunny ate first, it always felt good to eat when she was scared, maybe the fluffy thing would feel the same.

Awen stumbled her way into the cafeteria after wandering around hte village for some time. She saw on one side of the town was a large pool of water. She hated it, wasn't being on an island bad enough but there has to be water in land as well?

She brushed a few strands of blue hair away from her eyes as she peered into the cafe. There was one girl sitting nearby feeding a bunny. By the look of the little thing and how it seemed to shake Awen didn't think the thing was her cute pet bunny she brought from home. At least that answered Awen's question about wildlife on the island.

She wasn't really hungry at all but wanted to take a look at everything. She circled the cafe once making sure to note everything and it's place as she passed. As she passed the girl and the bunny she paused. she wasn't as normal as Awen had thought.

Tilting her head a little bit she saw the girl had markings over her body. Probably tattoos. She knew a few people back home who were into the animal marking tattoos and she remembered reading something in Guinness books of world records about a guy being completely covered in an animal print. What was it then..tiger, cheeta? She couldn't quite remember.

Debating with herself a little while as to whether or not to go over to the girl she finally decided to. She smiled softly as she approched. "Um... hello there." She said quiet pleasently. "I'm Awen Zyn."

Colche was so enscopnced with her new found critter that she didn't notice awen enter and it was only when she was addressed that her eyes lifted, they were frightend for a moment, new person, it was always a bit weird meeting a new person. She smiled weakly holding tightly to the ball of fluffled clenced in her slender arms. She had never yet grasped the idea of hello so she simply smiled and tilted ehr head curiously until she felt a tug on the peice of cabbage and she turned her attention abck to the bunny "nice" she whispers a tiny tinny puurr escaping her chest. She wonderd, would she be able to kep this ball of fluff like shew as allowed to keep the shell and the butterfly box? She had to ask somone, maybe this new person would know. She turned her gazeon the girl again and waited, she wasn't exactly master conversationalist she hadn't a clue how to ask if the creature was hers, or for that matter what the long eard creature was.
