She tilted her head.
"He's in the back working on his newest chapter. He's been at it a few hours, so he's probably ready for a brak. Working gets him worn thin, though, be sure not to lose any appendages."

Jak chuckled. "Thanks love, we''ll go find him."
He pulled Laci out the door, heading around the house to the back.
His eyes spotted Suru quickly and he moved over to his side.
"Hello gorgeous, ready for a break?"

Suru felt a stab and a twist at seeing them so friendly, but couldn't place the feeling. An inexplicible flame of hostility licked at his heart, and he returned to work, muttering,
"I don't think it's a very good idea. This chapter is already a week late t my editor."
As to when this ha ever mattered BEFORE, he couldn't say. His work was ALWAYS at least a month behind schedule.

Jak released Laci's hand to kneel at his feet, placing a hand on Suru's. "Come swimming with us dear heart, you need a break."

His heart ached with want, but at his touch, Suru got a flash of . . . something. Something he was definitly not a part of. The breif image made his heart freeze and, almost involuntarily, he snatched his hand back.
"I have work to do, Jak. Maybe another time."
His tone was cool, and he returned to his work, chewing his lower lip.

Jak stared up at him, confused for a moment, then reached up to cup his cheeks with both hands. "Dont pull away love..."
He leaned close, pulling Suru to him. He kissed him, a tender but passionate kiss, his breath ragged when he pulled back again. "My beautiful, sexy Suru."

Suru flinched at the contact, another flash hitting him. Jak and Lacuna . . . . together . . . . without him. He winced, a little, and turned his head back down, cheeks flaming. What in god's name was he seeing . . . . and WHY?! They would never . . . .
But doubt pricked him, sharply, and he bled nothing but thinly masked hostility.
"Go swimming, have fun. I have to finish this for tomorrow."

Jak's eyes became stormy, a slow anger building in him.
"Stop pushing us away love. We want you with us, the way we're meant to be."
He paused a moment, struggling with his thoughts. "I..need to tell you something dear heart. Please dont be angry..."

Anger boiled to the surface, and he slammed his book shut, standing.
"Jak, I do not have time for this. I have a chapter to finish, that's already weeks overdue. Now if you will excuse me. You know your way out from here."
He slipped past them both, quickly, tears pricking his eyes, curiosity eating away at him. They wouldn't. They would never. Not without him. Never without him
Would they?
He slipped inside, half-slamming the sliding glass door and went straight to his room, closing and proceeding to lock the door.

Jak turned to look at Laci, a pained look in his eyes. "I have to go to him angel...please understand...."
He turned and followed Suru inside, tears in his eyes as the door was locked from him. He slid to the floor, his back leaning against the door.
"Please dear heart, dont shut me out again.
I can tell you know what we did, I can see it in your eyes. I'm not sure how you know...I wouldnt hide it from you though. But she's not ready for the kind of loving you want...she's not ready to see us together like that....I want us all to be comfortable with each other before...please....I love you..."

He'd sat at his desk, with his head in his hands. Jak's voice jolted him, and he looked up, listening, horrified. He'd thought he was just being paranoid, but no. What he'd seen had been real and true. This fact jolted his heart to pump venom through his veins.
He clenched his fists, and squeezed his eyes shut, wincing.
"You didn't. Not without me. You wouldn't."
Canti poked her head out of her room, looking sleepy and bewildered.
"Jak? What's going on? Is something wrong with Suru?"

Lacuna frowned angerily.
"You know.. I care too, just for the record..", she said following Jak. "You're not exacly Mr.Fix-it and I'm not exacly going to let you take all the blame", she looked at the door that Suru was behind.
"Everything is just fine, Canti, go back to bed darling", she said to the popped out head.
"Suru.. Please come out so we can talk infront of you, face to face love. It's not as horrible as you're thinking.", she winced, hoping that he would understand.

He tore open the door and glared at them both, furiously, hands balled into fists at his sides.
"It's not as horrible as I think? Let me see if I have the situation straight in my head. You two ********, without me, when we're supposed to be in this together, all three of us, when I was more than willing to let you two be together without me if that would make you happy. You went behind my back, while I was trying to comfort YOU SISTER, Jak. Is that a fair assesment of the situation?"
Canti stared, wide-eyes, and cleared her throat.
"I think I'm going out. I'll be back later."
Without another word, she darted downstairs and out of the house.
