Dari might worry like anyone else that it'd rock off the boat, but he was too nice to say 'no' and Toby loved him too much to let his birthday present kick off into the water.
"Save the date. That'll be nice. Oh, it's not on a full moon, is it?"

"Not on the boat, on the shore," Maia mused. "Remember, he found the perfect star viewing spot? I bet he can do that again."
"I wouldn't have suggested it if it was," Maia said. "Besides, I've heard meteors are hard to see when there's a full moon."

"Yeah, that makes sense. Absurd trivia is more the slimebag's venue. We'll get something planned." Maybe he could propose then. Right under the meteor shower. Could he use the telescope? He'd have to ask Dari some time. He didn't want to just get down on one knee and ask. Maia was more special than that.
"I'm hoping to get home before the twenty-second." This month's full moon. "I don't know what these guys would do if I went full fur on them." It might make the mission easier, though, if he had big scary teeth and claws.

Maia smiled. "I'll look up when it's supposed to be," she promised. The meteors were supposed to get more visible as it became later in The month, weren't they?
"I'm sure the mission will be done by then," she said. "I'll make you something special. Steak, maybe." And maybe ice cream? It'd be warm enough for it.

Yeah, Toby definitely hoped so. She was probably right, though. Missions never lasted as long as the Bureau liked to say they would be, especially not removal like this. However it ended, it would end fast.

"Peaches misses you," Maia said, but she wasn't looking towards the now sleeping cat. He'd nested beside her, purring loud as could be. She missed him. She knew from experience a month away from Toby was hard. And this time he was in possible danger.

"Well, I miss him too. Give him some tuna for me," Toby said. He was glad that Maia at least had the cat to keep her company. Lori would hopefully be helping too, but Toby knew the job Lori had taken over. He was a busy man.

Toby grinned sideways and chuckled. Oh, he was sure she would, and that was even if he didn't try for it himself. You got hungry when you were in the field, not for food but for physical contact. Special agents didn't hug or kiss or comfort. They had to work. That was yet another reason coworkers tended to never get together. It was all coldness and professionalism, as it should be.
"I should get some rest for a few hours, love. I'll call when I can. I love you."

"I love you too. Good night, love." Oh, but it hurt to not have that nighttime kiss. Even Toby had never been in a relationship this serious and had to head out into the field. Frankly, it sucked.
Two more days passed and there came no more news. Maia and Cody were on their own to amuse themselves as they saw fit.

Four days in and Maia had tired of every form of entertainment in the house. She'd even tried her hand at creating a skyrim character but the jump scare from the zombie like creatures in the second linear quest had scared her so much she hadn't gone back to it.
Instead, when she had a break at work she made her way to Michael's room. She rung the bell.

Eh? Was he needed? That was usually what the bell meant, and people tended to not screw with him.
The locked door unlocked and swung open, but the room was dark and empty. The furniture was the same as the first time Maia had visited, but it had been moved around into a different orientation.

Maia peered in, but didn't see Michael. She didn't enter; she wasn't sure she had permission. "Michael?" She asked. She was hoping for a friendly face. Peaches' company was nice, but it wasn't the same as the company of people. "Want to chat?"

There was silence at first, as if Michael was denying her or not present, but then the attic door swung open and he peered down.
"Come in," he said, although how he could see the young woman through the darkness was a mystery. He came down without the aid of a ladder and the lamps in the room suddenly lit. "What's wrong?"
