Alright, now that I have internet from a motel (free, but really slow), I'll talk about Day 1.

We're in Kingman, AZ after driving 335 miles from 11 AM to 7PM. Traffic was horrible until we got to Interstate 40. I rode in the truck with my dad while my sister rode in the van with my mum and cats.

Speakin' of the cats... getting them into the kennels was near-impossible without a fight. Lucky, the scaredy-cat, was actually more willing to get inside of the kennel than Oreo was. I had to put Oreo in butt-first because he would try to stop himself with his legs (and I didn't wanna hurt the cat). Lucky soaked himself in fear and then sat in his litterbox for the rest of the ride. Neither cat wants to eat or drink though. The van reeks of cat piss and I have to ride in it tomorrow. :/

We still have roughly 1700 miles, and I think the trip will last for another 4-6 days depending on traffic.

Btw, salt-and-vinegar chips = awesome.

@ Jay: Christ on a Cracker, man. . . lol I feel SO bad for you- I know exactly how you feel. My family and I moved a lot when I was a kid, and I know that getting the cats in their little kennels was a b***h!
When we moved up to Minnesota, though, I got to ride in the truck most of the time :3.

@ waffle: Woowww...talk about a CATastrophic story...*shot* xD But seriously, that blows. Hope the rest of the trip is a little more peaceful.

We later gave Lucky a sponge bath and the van and kennels stopped smelling horribly. We also made the mistake of letting them out of their kennels because Lucky hid behind the bed immediately and Oreo hid after snuggling with me for five minutes. I didn't get much sleep because Mum wanted to leave the TV on and never turned it off.

Day 2: Right now I'm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We hoped to get to Amarillo, TX, but road construction and problems with the van's engine slowed us down too much. Not to mention how chasing the cats took too long, I had to wait around for everyone to take showers, and everyone but me wanted to stop at nearly every goddamn point for a snack or a meal or a break, often not even a long time apart. Oh, and we passed by a wildfire so the A/C sucked the smoke from outside and put it in the car. mad

Whining aside, I saw some epic scenery. We also passed by the Grand Canyon and a few other big-name places. I don't know how many more miles we have, but we still need to go through the rest of New Mexico, then Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, then Illinois. My dad's trying to adjust the times we leave and call it a day so we can get to my grandma's by Thursday. I think it's really unlikely.

Some things I forgot to mention about yesterday:
- We had the awesome luck of running into two consecutive closed rest stops.
- It was record-breaking heat basically everywhere we went.
- I looked outside the window and saw these fields with loads of black rock in them. People had arranged them into pictures, and go figure, someone arranged the rocks into a crude picture of a d**k.
- I saw a giant golf ball in the middle of nowhere.

And not on-topic specifically about my trip, but equally relevant: My parents are too addicted to Farmville to not find a Motel 6 or wifi-enabled motel, and while the net isn't the greatest over the summer, it's free and works for the most part. This means I'll more than likely be able to post for 1 or 2 hours a day. Don't hold up the RP or anything 'cause of me. wink

@ Jay: Wow. . . That's a pretty long route. Wasn't there a shorter way to get to your destination, Bro?

@ waffle: .....OMG. Someone should make a reality show about this trip. That's insane...But at least you have somewhere nice to sleep and relax every night, right?

I get a nice place to sleep provided the place is actually quiet. But noo~ People on the floor above us were stompin' and playing with toddlers like it was 10 AM instead of 10 PM, and Oreo wouldn't shut up for some reason.

But lol, no; there are no shorter routes. I wish there was one.

Day 3:

We quickly left the motel and got on the road at like, 7 or 8 or something. Nothin' eventful other than me wondering wtf will happen to me when we enter the 'redneck gauntlet' of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas (just Joplin, Kansas but still), and Missouri. Texas was hilarious, because all the stereotypes are practically true. Ten gallon hats, banjo music stations, long stretches of trashed trailers, giant corn fields, oil derricks, and churches everywhere. We passed by a cattle ranch and guess what? The A/C sucked up the nausea-inducing air just like it did with the smoke and put it in the car. It didn't go away for another 5 minutes and I had to cover my mouth and nose with my shirt because the stench was so strong you could taste it. mad

I was all "oh noes we're in hickland gonk " when we saw a GIANT WHITE CHRISTIAN CROSS literally next to the highway. .__.""

Oklahoma was too funny because everything was backwards. Exits were on the left side of the road for whatever reason. And true to their stereotypes, we saw a tornado-ravaged trailer park and a boatload of cowboy stuff.

Right now we're in Tulsa. Tomorrow we're just gonna leave (around 7AM at the latest) and blast through the rest of the route until we get to my grandma's. We have less distance to cover than what we did today, so we should be done with the road trip by tomorrow night....and then there's unpacking and all that good stuff. @_@

Something I forgot from yesterday - We got a lot of interference from other walkie-talkies so I had the good fortune of hearing a conversation between two women (I think) about bubble baths that got pretty close to TMI. Then when I was left in the car alone today, I heard this one guy singing for the lulz while his pal was going on and on about 'hot chicks'.

*screeeech* Okay, hold the line. Clarification, people. Only the deserted, suuuper country parts of Texas fit the stereotype. We do not wear cowboy boots and hats, people! Down with the stereotype! talk2hand
-your fellow Texan heart

This really should be a reality show. Utterly ridiculous, smelly road trip. Jay's Journeys.

@ Jay: :3 I'm from Missouri (wasn't born there, but I still call it home)! I used to live in Maysville before I moved to Gallatin, and I used to know a girl that lived in Mexico (there's such a town)!
I should go to Missouri one of these days. . . I miss it sometimes.

@ Nari: Liz Lee (The star of the MTV Series called "My Life As Liz") is from Texas. I forget which part, though. I don't know. lol Google it XD.
:3 Everytime I watch the show, I always think ":'D Nari's from Texas!" ;D Yeehaw!

Might not apply to -all- of Texas, but it sure applies to the entire route between Albuquerque and Texacola and then some. razz

Totally not complainin' about Southern Californian stereotypes. :p

I'd make a Flash animation of it if I didn't pack my tablet, now that I installed Flash CS5.

@ Styk: D'oh! >~< Yea...how? What is this barbaric statement??

Might look her up later when I get on the computer.

@ waffle: Yeah, it gets rough upstate...full of nothing but rednecks and old-fashioned bumpkins....*coughnotreallycough*

The mannny bright, bubbly, tan people who stay on the beach all day...definitely suits you.
PostPosted: Thu Jun 30, 2011 2:58 pm

@ Nari: no ten gallon hats...ah well. We should compare rednecks! PA vs. Texas maybe there is a difference in their breed.

@Waffle: Well though I understand the trip is long and you are tired of it at least you have a potential comic or reality TV series sweatdrop
