Toby was confident, but that didn't seem to reassure Maia. Her lips were in a tight line, eyes trailing over Toby in obvious concern. "For how long?" she asked, at last.
Humans were just as dangerous as any unseelie. They had guns, weapons made of silver, things that could kill someone in an instant. She released Toby's hands to wrap her arms around him. "You promise to be careful?"

"The average allotted time for things like this is a month, but it never takes that long," Toby said. He gladly wrapped his arms around Maia and gave her a squeeze and a playful growling noise. "Of course I'll be careful! Besides, you know how hard werewolves are to hurt."

"I still worry," Maia said, into Toby's chest. A month was a long time, but she knew HQ liked to overestimate how much time it'd take them to finish a mission. "Will you be calling Lori?" she asked.

Toby kissed the top of Maia's head and tried to pull away just enough to give her a reassuring smile and a look in the eye.
"Lori? Lori was there for the meeting. He's going to be taking over for me." He was slightly confused. Why would he be calling Lori?

"You called Lori last time, when you went to the jungle," Maia explained, and then paused. They really were expecting them to be gone a long time, if they were giving Toby's job to Lori temporarily.
She leaned up and kissed his cheek. "Lets go home."

"Oh. Well, I figure I'll call you when I can. I can't really give you case details but I can check in." Hopefully. He kissed Maia softly and then smiled to her again and took her head.
"Yeah, let's go home. I want to spend some time with you tonight after I pack up, if that's alright."

"I don't care about mission details." Maia shook her head, giving his hand a squeeze. "I just want to know you and Dari are safe." She'd miss him, and she'd worry--but she planned on making the best of the time they had.
"Alright," She agreed.

Toby smiled and nodded. He'd feel the same way, he was sure. He was lucky to be the one leaving and not the one left behind. He paused to give her a kiss, hoping to reassure her, and then smiled again.
"Do you need to grab anything before we head out?"

"Nah, I'm good," Maia assured him. She gave his hand a squeeze. "Let's go get you packed." She didn't want him to go. She didn't. At least, not without her. But that was selfish. An entity's life was in danger, and Toby was the best at his job.

So out they went, through the building and to the car, and then off toward home. They would catch Dari and Cody as they were home to pack, and when finished Toby stood between the rooms.
"So do you guys want to stay for dinner?" Toby asked. He had the feeling since Cody was here they were not going to be staying for the night.
Dari looked to Cody. Did he want to? Toby looked to Cody too and smiled completely serenely.

"Okay," Cody said, looking from Dari, and then Toby. "Hey, can I help? Dari says you've been teaching him all your master-chef tricks."
Maia wrapped her arms around Toby from behind. She didn't seem to want to be further than arm's reach from him. "What are you thinking?" she asked.

"Sure, if you want to," Toby said with a nod, "It's always nice to have help." If anything, this emergency mission had seemed to calm him. It was an odd effect of his years in this service. He turned to look at Maia over his shoulder then and then turned back to Cody. "What do you feel like? We just went shopping last weekend, so we're fully stocked."
Dari stood with his suitcase looked still to Cody, offering him a hand.

Oh, he got to decide? Cody paused to think about it, was silent for a long time. "I don't know," he said, at last. "Do you guys have a favorite? You might not have an stove where-ever you're going."
"Maybe biscuits and gravy?" Maia suggested.

Cody was probably right.
"That's breakfast," Toby said, and then tilted his head. "Although if we add vegetables? Or meat?" That could work. "I'm sure we have the stuff for it. Whaddya say, Cody?"

"We've never done breakfast for dinner," Maia said. "Let's add both and call it a proper meal." She was planning on waking early to make Toby breakfast before he left. Lord knew what he'd be fed on the mission.
"I'm up for it," Cody said.
