Dari smiled back and returned the hug, but he still looked a bit worried.
"Hey, hon." He hugged him and inhaled his scent. He hadn't ever had to leave Cody, not yet. Not for this long. "Sorry to just show up like this."

Cody hadn't yet released the hug. He did pull back to study Dari's expression, frowning slightly. "Is something the matter?" He asked. He always welcomed visits from Dari, but his love seemed stressed about something.
"Come in," He said. "I just made some coffee. Want some?"

Dari reasserted his smile and held Cody's hand, giving it a little squeeze. Not bad, necessarily, just... not good.
"No, thank you," Dari said. Cody could have some if he wanted, but he didn't want him to spill it on his own lap. "There's, uh--" Hm. "I got called for a mission. At work."

A mission, for some reason Dari didn't seem pleased. He'd spoken about trips to far off places, about knowing a number of languages and how that helped. Why--oh. "How long?" he asked. Would it be dangerous? "You'll be careful, won't you?"

"Of course I will," Dari said. "They estimated a month, but they always figure for more than is needed. The only thing is that I have to leave in the morning." It was a quick goodbye. He didn't like it. Usually they had a week or two to prepare, which meant this mission was especially dangerous not for them, but for the ones already involved.

Cody swallowed. A month, even overshooting, that was a lot. The offer of coffee forgotten, he wrapped his arms tightly around Dari and didn't seem willing to let go. "Stay tonight," he said.

Dari held him close, smiled, and stroked Cody's hair.
"I can't. I have to leave early in the morning." Then he worked his lower lip and tilted his head. "Unless you want to come back to the house and help me pack. Then I can drive there from here in the morning.

Cody's heart sunk, as Dari said he couldn't stay; but then it leapt right back up. He nodded. "I'll help pack," He agreed. He wanted to be near Dari, for the last time until he came back. He kissed Dari's cheek. "Let's go. We'll have you packed in no time."

Dari smiled and nodded. Good. It would be a good last night here until he got back. He took Cody's hand again, waited for him to lock up, and then headed back toward home.
Meanwhile, Toby had placed a call to the coordinating agent in the field and, when it was finished, made his way for Maia's office. She was not of high enough rank to have gotten the call or come to the meeting, so it was up to him to tell her. He knocked on the door frame, smiling as he entered.

Maia looked up. She'd been putting things away and into a drawer. "Hi love," she smiled at Toby as he entered. She stood and walked over to him. "Ready to head home?"

Toby nodded. "Almost. I have some bad news." But from the look on his face it was 'bad' like he was going out with the boys for a drink, not temporarily life-altering bad.

Maia knew Toby. He tried to soften things, he'd done that since she'd met him. He tried to act like he wasn't unhappy when he was. She frowned in concern. "Bad news?" she asked.

"Dari and I have to leave tomorrow morning for a mission in Oklahoma."

Tomorrow morning? "But why such short notice?" Maia asked, frowning. Even with simple missions like Breyer they gave time to prepare.

"It's something of an emergency. We have a small group of humans who've kidnapped an entity, so we want to get out of there as soon as we can and neutralize the situation." Toby was confident, cool, and speaking as if it was no big deal. Of course it could be. They might be up against firearms or fundamentalists, one never knew. But it would be fine. Werewolves were very, very hard to kill and Dari was almost completely immortal himself.
