A couple of potions later, and Saku was fully healed, as Chloe decided to start practicing a bit with her gauntlets.
"Alright, now down to business," Chloe grinned as Saku separated herself from Chloe a few paces.
"Um, start with just an Ember, kay?" she requested, "But tone down the heat a bit, I wanna make sure this thing works before I start trying to deflect bigger stuff," Chloe laughed, although she was more than a little nervous.
Saku nodded, concentrating for a moment, before exhaling, creating a fireball. A moment later the flames flickered to around half of her normal energy, before she fired it slowly at Chloe.

Chloe watched the fire come towards her, scooching to one side so that the flames wouldn't hit her dead on. She opted to try one hand first. That way if she was burned, she could deal more easily with it than if she tried to block it with both hands.
She just hoped there wasn't some incantation or something that she had to recite in order to make the powers work... That would kinda suck...
The Ember hit the gauntlet as Choe winced, expecting the worse. Thankfully the attack only fizzled out, and Chloe could detect only the slightest hint of warmth to the metal. It didn't look damaged either, Chloe noted as she examined the plates of the gauntlet.

Lilie was distracted momentarily from her dogpile as she spotted another Heart Scale on the ground in front of Hino. Grinning, she used her leaves to pick up the scale like she had the other, depositing it into Chloe's bag.
Chloe had her attention turned onto the Ember headed her way, otherwise she would have thanked Lilie.
The flames approached her, as Chloe held her hands out, this time feeling a sort of pulse from the gauntlets. They flared blue for a moment, before the Ember spread out, creating a wall of flame in front of Chloe. Startled, she leaped backwards, tripping, and landed on her butt. The light from the gauntlets flickered out, as the flames sputtered and died.

"And these Steelix keep taunting me," Chloe sighed. "I would have totally caught you if it weren't for the Metal Coat I found and the Onix I have waiting in my PC!" she declared as the Steelix charged, Saku taking up position in front of Chloe.
"Same strategy as before!" Chloe called to Saku, who nodded, firing off an Ember, not bothering to hold back anything now. The Steelix grumbled in irritation, using a Slam, as Saku fired off another fireball. The metallic snake retaliated with a Thunder Fang, which did little to deter the dragon, as she fired off yet another Ember at the Steelix. Weakened, but not quite done yet, he flung a Rock Throw her way, as she finished the job with one last Ember.
"Alright, awesome," Chloe grinned, as the Steelix retreated, and Saku waddled back over for her potions.

"Wait, are you sure you're okay?" Chloe questioned Saku as she spritzed the potions onto the dragon. Saku looked up questioningly, nodding without a second thought.
"I mean, your shell looks like its cracking..." Chloe murmured, running a hand over Saku's back. Indeed, in a few places the shell was chipping away.
"Wah! You're not hurt are you?" Chloe panicked, as Saku shook her head. She felt fine, honestly.

Entreri merely snickered as Chloe flailed about, digging in her bag for her Pokegear. She scanned Saku, but nothing showed out of the ordinary. Her health was fine, thanks to the potions. Her stats were good too. And she didn't seem hurt.
"Maybe that Steelix was just a bit stronger than normal?" Chloe guessed, as Saku shrugged, which was still quite the feat.

"Mmmm, alright, if you say you're okay..." Chloe murmured, tucking away her Pokegear, still not entirely convinced. Sure Saku's shell had taken on quite the beating over the past few months, but she had never seen it chip like that.
But Saku didn't seem to be too worried, so Chloe opted to let it slide for the time being. She was definitely going to get Saku checked out in the Pokecenter in Canalave, though, she decided, adding that to her mental to-do list.

With a little more reassurance from Saku, Chloe set out again to try to figure out how the heck the gauntlets of hers actually worked. She opted to try Saku with another Ember, this time daring her to turn up the heat as much as she could. Saku nodded, before inhaling deeply. A split second later, she fired off four consecutive Embers at Chloe, who stood at the ready, hands outwards.
This time, Chloe didn't falter when the gauntlets once again flickered with the pulse of blue light. And even though it scared the heck outta her, she also managed not to dive out of the way when the Embers struck, flattening out, then combining with each other until Chloe was faced with another wall of fire before her. The flames danced for a bit, and Chloe half-expected them to sputter out again, like they had before.
But they remained, Chloe realized, as she stood, arms stretched out in front of her.

Chloe paused for a moment, watching the fire flicker in front of her, as Saku watched as well. Experimentally, Chloe lowered one hand, and the flames flickered, falling a bit as they twisted, aiming for her remaining hand. The flames suddenly were sucked into the gauntlet, as Chloe watched a bit nervously, still not really getting the hang of this.
The flames vanished, as the gem on the back of her hand flared from its normal clear to a fiery red.
"What's that mean?" Chloe murmured. She certainly wished these things came with instruction manuals...

"Hey, Saku, come check this out..." Chloe called, holding the gauntlet out, "The gem suddenly changed-" as Chloe moved her arm back outwards, suddenly the gauntlet flared once more, as a stream of fire burst from the glove, sailing around her in a spiral. The fire dance continued for a few more moments, before flaring outwards in the direction Chloe had pointed. Thankfully, Saku had moved out of the way by then, but the boulder in the way suddenly found itself bombarded by a flare of flames.
"GAAAAH!" she shrieked, thoroughly freaked out. Entreri was in hysterics by now, cackling as he tried to keep his hold on the wall, which was increasingly difficult considering how hard he was laughing.
