Ugh, physics. I hated that class. gonk My school makes higher level english and history mandatory for everyone who wants to take the full program, and then I'm in higher level math. It's hard. emo

I just call it DC too, but I guess when people hear washington, they instantly think "washington, DC."

Really? So I guess it's not just my school. xD A lot of math/science nerds are pissed off about it though, since there's the rule that you can't take more than 4 HL's. They wanna take HL math, physics, and comp sci but can't because english/history are mandatory. I think I would roll over and die if I had to take all 3 of those classes because math and science are my worst subjects. rofl

Hehe, that's good. I just didn't get a lot of it, maybe because it was first and second period. gonk

I know the feeling Lapin. xd I just finished high school, and we always got holiday homework between year levels. I'm on a four month break before uni starts, and it's the first time in YEARS that I haven't had some sort of homework!

Do you guys have to take that American exam which sort of determines if you get into uni as well?
I always get so confused by the US schooling system. ^.^

Our entire year 12 year contributes to our 'ENTER score' which then determines which courses you get into. From what I've spoken to my IB friends, the workload isn't that much different, except they have the compulsary community service/sports hours, and they had more exams which covered more content at the end.

I was just frustrated that Juniors can't take higher level tests. I started physics my sophmore year. I had to not take Adv physics in my junior year because I couldn't take the higher level test. So now I'm taking adv. physics... oy, i need to review my kinetics.

Yeah, CAS is the community service thing we have to do. It's 75 hours a year for two years. Not as hard to fulfill as it sounds like, but the worst part is the paperwork. gonk We have to fill out a "reflection sheet" and keep a log of every stupid little thing we do. So annoying. >.>

And yep, we still need to take the SATs, which are a relatively important factor in colleges. Not a huge factor but it definitely counts. @.@

What country do you live in? surprised

I never took physics, but I did specialist maths, which included a kinematics and mechanics section. I hated it at first, but it got kind of fun in the end. whee

@Lapin - In our school, sophomores aren't allowed to take IB classes at all to prevent problems like that. Except for this one genious kid who tested out of all the prerequisites and takes all the classes I'm taking but does better. emo

Admission processes to get into our unis are a bit different I think. Everyone has to take either the SAT or ACT (college admission exams bascially -- usually involves reading, writing and math skills. The ACT however also has a science section -- which I hated with a passion despite how much I love science) but that is only apart of the admission process. There is the paper application that is unique to each university and involves basic info, essays they ask you to write, your community service, your work experience, and your SAT/ACT scores. Your courses and grades from throughout high school are also apart of the admission process. Once you submit the application, the admission officers of each university then look over your application and decide whether you can enter into their uni or not.

Yeah, IB kids have to finish 180 CAS hours here (creativity, activity, and service). The workload here is MUCH different though -- that's probably because our school system is so much easier than most countries. It is amazing how easy "normal" classes are after taking IB. It's crazy.

Yeah, I know what you mean Lapin. I took the easy way out and enrolled in a college forensics class instead of higher level physics like everyone else. I can sleep through that class and still get an A+. rofl

Well the phsyics class wasn't really an IB class per-say. It was a kind of in-between sort of thing. I took Honors Biology in 8th grade before I entered high school so I was a year ahead of most of my class in the sciences.
