Tsurai put his head in his hand. "Where's the next town?" he whined.

"You couldn't make it if you wanted to. Not carting ye olde irishman. I'm surprised he made it so far. Good to be young, ain't it?" He lay his weight back on his palms, rolling his eyes at Tsurai. "What makes you think they won't try to eat you, huh?"

That was sadly true. Isiah was getting really susceptible to heat. They were stuck, If Tsurai cared anything about Isiah.
"Because they aren't cannibals." He rolled his head on his shoulders, placing his arm around his waist, again.
"We could always backtrack. Alex was better than here."

"Don't think you'd get a very warm reception." His fingers twitched for lack of a cigarette. It wasn't the nicotine so much as something to do with his lips and hands. [haha.] "But hey, if you get us water, I don't think anybody'd touch ya, even if your arm fell clear off."

Tsurai fell to the ground, sitting crosslegged. "And just what are the chances of finding water... Seriously?"

"Oh..." He chewed on the inside of his cheek, thinking. "I'd say one out of fifty. Better than anywhere else. It feels cooler down there. Air's even a little damp, on the humid days. So it's a better chance than spinning around and picking with your eyes closed, even if only by a tiny margin. I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you. If he gets more than ten feet down, we can just leave him."

Tsurai scratched the back of his neck with a sigh, and got up.
"Fine then." He turned his scarred back to Braeden and started walking back to the tunnel.
Raising a hand for the lazy wave to Braeden, he muttered a "Nice talking to you, I guess," and went off to the tunnel.
It didn't take him long to get there and hop down, glad to be away from prying eyes. It did feel cooler; he must've not noticed it before.
"I'm back, in one piece, too. And without causing trouble. How's that sound?" He smiled to Isiah, suddenly giddy, now that he was away from what seemed chains holding him down.

Isiah was about four feet in, now- he had a big enough of a hole to stand and dig in, without being hindered by short space. "I wonder how long they want me to dig before I give up." He hopped up from the hole and sat down on it's edge, taking a deep breath. Break time. "What were you doing that whole time?"

"Oh, I was... Talking. Weighing options. Overcoming fears. Talking about you." He chuckled lightly. "With Braeden. Actually not as bad a guy as I thought he was. Anyway, he said that if we got ten feet in, he'd leave us alone, but there was a one in fifty chance we'd get water by then."
He dragged his fingers through his hair. "Man, I wish I could dig. I so feel like digging right now."
He didn't know where all this pent up energy was coming from... He hadn't eaten well in.. Well, he probably shouldn't think about that.

Isiah grunted, rolling his eyes. "Seduced by older men, huh? Don't let him sweet talk you. He's used to romancing kids your age. Probably some skank recruiter or something." He leaned back to grab a bottle of water from the conveniently nearby duffle, grumbling at the loss of the pack of cigarettes. He had hidden the other packs better. He sat up, undoing the cap of the canteen before taking a meager sip, offering it over to Tsurai.

"Nah, he didn't romance me." Tsurai shook his head at the water offer. He was thirsty, but Isiah needed it more. He was the one actually working.
"We didn't even talk about Denziens at all. We just talked about.. Digging." He let out a laugh. "Sorry. Digging, and cannibalism. That was it." Maybe he had been romanced; Tsurai was a really gullible kid. Anything could happen. If he was told he was fourteen, and it was shoved in his face enough, he would start believining his was fourteen.

"Cannibalism?" Isiah took another meager sip before screwing the lid shut. "That explains the feeing, then. I didn't think I saw any old people.. or children.. or.. any sick.." He gulped to hold back a gag. "God damn."

Tsurai's good expression faded. "Sorry. I didn't mention it because I knew you'd freak out. But.. They're not going to eat us, as long as we dig for them."
His serious expression faded again. "Man!" he whined, "I really wished I had two arms right now! I am having an urge to.. To... Gah!" He sat down. "I want to do something."

Isiah's mind ran through all the things HE could do one handed.. but stopped very quickly as soon as they went into the gutter. THAT should be the last thing on your mind... "It's my fault, anyway. Don't feel too bad." He set the canteen down in the duffle before hopping back into the hole, nearly waist deep. "Watch that I don't throw dirt into your face."

Tsurai burst out laughing. "Don't worry about it! It's mostly my fault. Besides. It makes me think twice before actually, you know. Fighting. Which, today, just saved me from killing myself with Braeden."
He got up and walked to the other end of the chasm, taking the second shovel with him. "I guess I'll just work on making it stronger, then."
