Pulse rifles are the best with a range of 30 inches a steght of 5 an AP rating of 5 and being rapid fire. *explodes from pent up urge to shout I am crazy*

The lack of BS is their greatest weakness, even more debilitating than their lack of close combat abilities. Nothing except Hammerheads and Commanders will hit with any acuracy. You need to pound out as many shots per turn as you can, then let the strength work it's magic. Tau win with numbers, Tau players win by being smart enough to get into rapid-fire range without getting assulted. They're just not as forgiving as Space Marines.

As long as we're on the topic....the str 5 guns are certainly nice and bs 3 is not a disadvantage...it's merely average (40k players are too used to BS-4).
As for the Tau in general...a good army, and one that I like, but is it a strong list? I certainly don't think so. People say it's unforgiving and it's fundamentally true, but I think what they mean is that the army is underpowered.
Why is it that the tau (supposed to be the shootiest army in 40k) can be easily outgunned by marines, eldar, and necrons? Does'nt that bother anyone else?

Tau, like any army, are utterly horrible until you discover your particular army's strength, after which they are near invinceable. I dont have a tau codex, but it seems to me the best plan of action would be to have 2 ranks, a rank of Kroot in the front, and a rank of whatever the guys with the S5 guns are right behind them. That way you can get close enough to shoot faster and still have a layer of assualt power.

Yeah Jet packs are great until your enemy brings assault marines to the table, then you better pray, lol.
Whatchyoo talkin' 'bout mah kroot die'n?
Then again I play the kroot Carnivore list (most broken thing ever) and all my kroot are T-4...and a 450 point HQ unit that can spit out 24 str 8 eviscerator attacks and 24 str 4 kroot hound attacks on the charge...and I still have 130 models at 1500 point xd
What was gw thinking when they published that army lol...
