Cowcrazy I've been playing oboe since the 6th grade and I am now a junior. I'm first chair in my school's top band. My school marches and everything, but we always play our concert music almost everyday, so I always get to take out my oboe. But for marching I'm a flag, and for pep band I play flute. (Why waste a reed on blowing your chops?) I do get to play english horn occasionally, depending if there is a separate part, or a small part in one of our pieces. I want to play english horn so bad, but our school doesn't have one and it's too expensive to buy one myself... do you play it like you do the oboe?

Even though I play the bassoon, I think the English horn is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Either that, or contra bassoon. Both rock my world. xp

I play the Oboe!!!!....OBOES Rule!!....I'm 1st Chair Oboe in the 1st Band of our school....I'm a freshman...and this is my 3rd year playing the oboe.....
...I really want to here some of you guys play
OH!....I've also experienced Percussion!....I had to play with Percussions for Marching Band...because we didn't have a Pit.............It was an awesome experience...I love the drummers....
So I guess I'm a...half oboe/half percussionist?....Percussoboist?...lol

Moonlight_Bandit I play the oboe as my main insturment, I haven't actually marched before so yea Same here. Oboe is my main instrument, but I also play clarinet. And in Canada we don't have marching bands, so I've never marched before. It would be awesome if we did have a marching band though. domokun

the undead boy i started playing oboe this year cause my band teacher made me, she got first chair at tri-state with oboe. Haha that's sort of what happened with me, only the director (well, assistant) decided that I should play bassoon. The switch was probably one of the best decisions I've made these past couple of years

Can you march with an oboe? Or will the BD MAKE you choose a different instrument? I was just wondering, cuz I'm going to be in marching band next year and I didn't know if you could march with an oboe or not. I really want to!!

Nope...you can't march with an oboe....cuz of the reed......Oboes will most likely play in the Pit...during Marching Season.... I'm an oboe....but I didn't play in the Pit....cuz we didn't have enough people.....instead I become a percussionist....during Marching Season......and I have to march.....it was an AWESOME experience.....I loved the percussions......but now I'm back on the oboe...... Trust me....You DO NOT want to march....it is so freakin hot!!!

I play bassoon, though I think the other double reeds are cool as well.
BUT.
Bassoon shall always be the best. n_n
I play flute during marching band. xD

Both rock my world. xp I have SO DESPERATELY wanted to play contra bassoon!! xp i could probably convince my director into getting one...not. cry but yeah, one of my biggest goals is to play contra bassoon, that would be so super-special-awesome!! xd

i play oboe! ... well sorta... I've had it for 2 years now, and I've had some lessons, but i haven't played in months... xp im too busy with alto sax and schoolwork and sports. xp i dont think my school even has a marching band...

sugarnew182 Yeah, I play Bassoon and thought that we double reeds should have a place to talk. Question. What do you guys play during marching season. I play Mellophone. I play Oboe and I made all-southern honor band 2 years in a row!!! i also play english horn!!! mrgreen Well in marching band i play flute!!! mrgreen OBOES RULE!!!!

I've been playing oboe for 3 years and i'm in freshman year. I've been privately tutored for 2 years. I'm also the head of the oboe section of my whole school! It is my main instument and I used to play violin when I was younger. In marching band season, I don't play an instument in the band, I'm in guard! Shout out to all my guard sisters!! OBOE ROCKS!!!!!
