 Thanks to scorin' prowess of captain Lemieux, Penguins won their 1st Stanley Cup in 1991 by defeatin' Minnesota North Stars in 6 games.

A year later, in 1992, Lemieux n' his Penguins were celebratin' a 2nd consecutive Cup win, this time after sweepin' Chicago Blackhawks.

In terms of points-per-game averages, no 2 NHL players have been as productive as Lemieux n' Wayne Gretzky.

Mario Lemieux took pride in suitin' up for his native Canada. He helped end his country's Olympic frustrations by leadin' Canada to gold medal at 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

After his 1st retirement in 1997, Lemieux was inducted into Hall of Fame. 2 years later, he began his return back to NHL by joinin' an ownership group that bought Penguins.

Penguins had retired Mario's famed No. 66. But when he decided to suit up again in 2000, number came down from rafters. Now that he's retired again, expect No. 66 to quickly return to its proper place.

NHL had never seen an offensive weapon like Mario -- strong n' big on his skates, yet possessin' natural gifts of a scorer n' passer.

This season, passin' of torch officially began in Pittsburgh, as Mario helped smooth young phenom Sidney Crosby's transition to NHL.
