"I shall attempt to return her on time," he assured half heartedly. "Although, I must admit some in my family are rather notorious for our inability to be on time. It may or may not be one of the reasons why we have our own library." He began leading Minty towards the dance floor, thinking. "Perhaps one of the traditional dances? I have waltzed a few times this evening, so would you like to try the slow foxtrot?" He made a point to mention the slow part. That particular dance could get rather fast, and he did not think a hyper Minty would be the best idea after she had just calmed herself down. ((The city. Broke. The internet. Thankfully my phone is on another provider XD))

"I think the metaphor has been overstretched, as I am now picturing a library of dates you failed to get home to their fathers on time." She arched a brow with a smirk, "Although I shouldn't judge, I'd be up to my eyeballs in late fees if I didn't have time travel at my disposal." She slid her hand up to his shoulder, elbow out and held up her other for him to take, "I think I remember the steps, if you can keep the pace. I cannot always be trusted to always behave myself." (They did what now? xD I thought my city was dysfunctional.)

(They did what now? xD I thought my city was dysfunctional.) "If such a place did exist it is not with my knowing," he replied, amusement showing in his eyes. "Though I cannot say the council would not be pleased with the idea." He gently took her offered hand, sliding the other to her waist, "I would be happy to lead," he replied as a classical song came on, guiding her through the steps, a bit slow at first, but once he felt she was comfortable with the steps, he picked up the pace to something that was more natural to the music. (Yup, it's going on 8 hours now XD. Apparently a cable died somewhere. There's reports throughout the county of the internet being down)

"Council? So the Starlight Prince title is more than a nickname then?" In the beginning she forced herself to keep pace, but settling into his lead in a natural way. (There will be riots...or well rested people. One of the two)

Minty Andee "Council? So the Starlight Prince title is more than a nickname then?" In the beginning she forced herself to keep pace, but settling into his lead in a natural way. (There will be riots...or well rested people. One of the two) "No, it is not simply a nickname," he chuckled. "Though with all of the stardust surrounding me, I can see why one might think that." He led her across the dance floor, the steps second nature with how often he had led with this particular dance. "My kingdom is known for its connection with the stars. Two from each generation of the royal family, particular the princes and princess, are known for being the direct caretakers and protectors of the stars. Between the stardust and our inevitable collection of small stars following us, the first duo eventually earned the nickname Starlight. The title has remained ever since then."[No sleep for the wicked! It finally came back!]

"Hmm. I understand it is tradition in much of the known world and all, but hereditary positions have always perplexed me." Her feet stepped lightly after his and she enjoyed the whisper of her skirts against her ankles, "What would you do if there were no suitable persons in a generation? Or if the generation only offered up persons who were all thumbs when it came to caring for stars? It seems like we'd all be in a heap of troubles if that happened." (Huzzah!)

Or if the generation only offered up persons who were all thumbs when it came to caring for stars? It seems like we'd all be in a heap of troubles if that happened." (Huzzah!) The prince was quiet for a moment. It was not that he had not considered this question before. In fact, he knew the answer all too well. It was rather fresh at that. He carefully decided on his words before he decided to answer. "True, it does make things rather difficult when roles are hereditary. Unfortunately, at least one of each generation, capable or not, is required to take the role. It is decided by a gene passed down from the generation before which allows us to easily work with and connect to the star's power network. The other is in case that one fails, one which the stars will accept as a replacement caretaker and follow until the next with the gene is born. Normally it is a sibling of the first because their mother or father, the current king or queen, held that position before they did, thus giving them the ideal teacher and influence. Though, there have been times when choosing a secondary has been required, such as when the current royal is an only child....that is when the council deliberates. Though we of the royal family make the recommendations, if it is someone not of royal blood, the council must approve it. Holding such a title, of royal blood or not, gives you the privileges of a blood born prince or princess."

"That is by far the most confusing thing I have ever heard." Minty squinted, trying to make sense of the information, "If it's a hereditary gene, then wouldn't it make more sense to keep a registry of the families that posses it? Then the responsibility wouldn't lie wholly at the feet of one person to ensure they have children. Because anything could happen, they could die young, be sterile, or gay! And if the stars have to accept a replacement caretaker, then shouldn't it be up to them and not the council?"

Minty Andee "That is by far the most confusing thing I have ever heard." Minty squinted, trying to make sense of the information, "If it's a hereditary gene, then wouldn't it make more sense to keep a registry of the families that posses it? Then the responsibility wouldn't lie wholly at the feet of one person to ensure they have children. Because anything could happen, they could die young, be sterile, or gay! And if the stars have to accept a replacement caretaker, then shouldn't it be up to them and not the council?" "I wish I could say it is less confusing for us," he replied with a sigh. "For whatever reason, this gene only appears once per generation, never more, never less. We have attempted tracking it in our own kingdom and even other kingdoms where there have been people known to have abilities that are similar to our own, but there has never been a second per generation found." If he had to guess, it was likely only partially to do with genetics. A single person per generation was odd, far too odd for natural selection and evolution to be the sole reason it turned out as such. But the research on how the gene worked was...difficult to say the least. Blood work would likely be the best way to examine it, but good luck getting that from anyone who for certain had the gene. The second part, however, cut through his thoughts. She was right, anything could happen, and as one of the examples came up, he felt a sudden pang in his chest. Yes, those examples were all too possible. The prince shoved the sensation to the back of his mind, however, choosing to focus on the last part of her commentary. "Were the council to think like that, we would have half the headaches we do now," he answered. "The council keeps the reputation and well being of the royal family and the kingdom in mind when choosing a secondary. The stars have their own criteria, being stars and not minding much for politics. Though most times the candidates brought up can appease both sides, sometimes they argue, as they are now. Currently the council is searching for a secondary, yet the stars themselves have one chosen."
