"It depends on the day, what they have. We can check the menu when we get there." There were always sandwiches though.
When Maia pointed excitedly the elf looked up and spotted Pixie. He was a legendary mooch and could often be found in the cafeteria during meal rushes, so if they bought him something he was sure they could lure him down to their table. "Yeah, he might."
At the counter Lori smiled. Yup. Cheeseburgers was a choice. Of course with the building run as it was, they were cooked to order and they would likely have to wait a few minutes, but he didn't mind. He was going to go for a lean sandwich himself and planned to grab some coldcuts for Pixie.

Menu? So the cafeteria was like a restaurant? Huh! "We can feed him too," she said, beaming. The way to a man's stomach was through his heart: which may or may not be true, but Maia was sure it was with animals.
Maia beamed. "Oh, and fruit. Do you have a favorite? I haven't really spent much time trying them. But I like oranges!"

"I'm a big fan of fruit. If they're off-season they can be a bit bitter, but the fruit cups are pretty good. They don't fill it up with melon and call it 'an assortment'." He paused to give his sandwich order to the man behind the counter and shifted his weight to one leg as he waited.
"Pineapple is really sweet. Strawberries if they're big and red, blueberries if they're big and blue. But we do have oranges." He gestured to the basket of miscellaneous fruit which also contained bananas and apples. "Stay away from the big ones, though. Those are grapefruit. Unless you like bitter. I dip them in sugar."

Bitter. Maia made a face. "I like apples, too. The pink ones. They're really sweet! The dark red ones are awful though. And the greener ones. Yellow ones are great! But I haven't had the chance to try any of the ones you've mentioned. Can you point out pineapple to me? I'll try it." She was always keen to have a sweet thing. Or five.
"What does Pixie like to eat?" She asked. "I'll get him something."

"Pineapple is the chunks of yellow stuff," Lori replied, pointing to the container. "They're big fruits with thick skins and a tall leafy top. Real annoying to try and clean and cut yourself without one of those special thingies."
He considered Pixie's unnatural diet a moment and tapped his foot. Hm.
"He'll eat meat and some fruits, but anything else will make him belly-sick."

Maia ordered her hamburger, took one of the fruitcups indicated by Lori, and some thin pieces of meat that she assumed were the cold cuts the elf had talked about earlier. "Okay, just meat and fruit. Where do you want to sit?" she looked towards the tables. "Do you want to play a game after lunch, if you're not busy?"

Lori surveyed the open seats and started toward a two-person table, nodding for Maia to follow. "I don't really have any free time until I get off of work. We can play a game the next time we have class, alright?" They might have some time during the lunch break but it wouldn't be enough to do anything really fun.
He ripped a bit of meat from his sandwich then and held it in the air toward Pixie, wiggling it. The little wyvern stared for several seconds with his head cocked to one side, and then he came down from his perch and flew toward the table. He began to reach for a landing with his feet far too early, pedaling quite a bit before he reached the table to sit. He waddled over to Lori but not near enough, snapped for the meat, moved a bit closer, tried again, and finally moved within range to take the bit of ham and gobble it down. Lori smiled and reached out to stroke the dragon's long neck.

Maia followed Lori, taking a seat. "So tomorrow?" she asked. Would she have classes everyday? She watched as he beckoned the little Dragon near. Pixie didn't seem to be able to see very well, it seemed, as she watched him. He made to land too soon, but at least he didn't crash.
She took a piece of meet and offered it to him. "He can't see well, can he he?" she asked, glancing at Lori. "Here Pixie, I've got food for you."

"Sure, we can play a game tomorrow," Lori said with a nod.
Pixie didn't notice Maia's offering at first, but she spoke and he looked down to see it. The poor thing overshot a little to grab it out of her hand but he had caught the edge regardless and threw his head back to catch the rest. When he relaxed again, his head was still tilted.
"Oh, he can see fine, thankfully. As far as anyone cal tell it's something vestibular. Something in his head. He doesn't have very good depth perception."

"Excellent, Dari taught me to play checkers. I think I'm pretty good at it." Her attention wasn't on Lori long though, as she held out another piece for Pixie. "He's a beautiful creature."
Something in his head? "Oh. Poor thing," she muttered, reaching to pet him. "Lori said you like fruit, too. I brought you some."

"Oh, did he?" But Lori knew he was old news when there was a dragon on the table.
At first Pixie saw the hand coming and tried to duck, but once more he hadn't guessed properly and his head bonked into Maia's hand. After that he decided that maybe being pet by a stranger wasn't so bad.

"He did. Let's play a different game though. You can teach me one."
Maia petted Pixie as his head bonked into her hand. "Its okay dragon, I won't hurt you," she assured him. She held out a piece of meat with her free hand. "See? I brought you treats. I'm sure someone bad might try that trick too, but I'm safe." It seemed her own lunch had been forgotten for the time being.

Lori nodded and gave an 'mm-hm' around a mouthful of sandwich. He'd seen Pixie nearly every day for a good few years now so the novelty had worn off but Maia definitely seemed excited. The dragon was by no means intelligent enough to understand human speech beyond a few key words but why tell her? Seamus, on the other hand, proved to be exceptional.
Pixie got the bit of meat his first try this time. He gobbled it down and turned to blink at Maia. Hello, new person! You were okay. He'd decided.

Maia beamed. She petted the Dragon again before turning to her own meal. "I'll save you some fruit if you stay," She said, before taking a bite of her burger. She seemed to chew thoughtfully, swallowed, and took another bite. She held the the burger in one hand and offered Pixie a piece of pineapple with the other.
She swallowed and set it down. "Can I visit Seamus tomorrow?"

Pixie waited expectantly for more food, and when none came he turned to Lori. Lori shook his head as if the dragon could understand him, and then Pix must have smelled the pineapple because he turned to try and take it. It was a bit big for his mouth, and his nibbles only got juice and tiny bits because the fruit was so stringy.
"Sure, you can visit him any time," Lori responded with a smile. A lot of people came down during their lunch breaks to play with him. It was decent stress-relief! Plus the sidhe loved whatever attention he could get.
