She was prepared another punch to its lower body when her foot slipped on something in the grass. Eyes widening, her arms careened wildly in a futile attempt to keep her balance. After a few intense moments of suspense, she toppled backwards. "Oof!" the air rushed from her lungs as she landed flat on her butt. She sat there for a moment, completely stunned. Soon her shoulders started to shake from silent laughter. She shook her head at her own foolishness and got to her feet to try again.

She decided to try for a tricky mid-body shot. It wasn't impossible at her level, but it would be hard with the blocking arms in such a position. She cocked her head to try and find the best way to attack. With a flurry of movement, she launched the heel of her palm at the stomach of the dummy. It was half-hidden by its elbows, but she thought she could make it with this trajectory. Of course, she thought wrong because when she went in, her palm slammed up against the hard wood of one of the elbows and not the stomach at all. She sighed. Back to lower body attacks.

Taking stock of the situation, Myobi sent in a mid-level kick towards the dummy's hip area. In a real battle, the attack would no nothing except perhaps set up another attack. It was in this second capacity that Myobi sought to practice it. The hit landed with a dull thud as her foot slammed into the wood. A light sweat had broken out on her skin. And it was getting a bit harder to continue breathing through just her nose. Her lungs wanted more air than her poor nose could take in at once. The mouth was an easy solution but would only hurt her in the end. So she stuck to her intentions and continued training.

Myobi wanted to get at least one more hit in on this dummy before looking to the next one. She didn't allow herself too much time to assess the situation. She wanted this to be at least similar to a real battle. And she knew that her opponent wouldn't likely stand there and allow her to search for an opening. So she sent a swift jab with her feet at the dummy's right knee. On an actual person, it was quite possible that she would have broken the kneecap. As it was, she only hit the wood exceptionally hard. She backed off from this dummy, satisfied at her practice. Not too bad. Not too bad, at all.

"Hola, Myobi!" a high pitched voice called out. Aya came running up to the taijutsu training area with a smile on her face. "My dance teacher cut class early, so I decide to come train my taijutsu," the little girl explained. Poking her own nose cutely, she admitted the truth, "Well, she left early, because I hadn't practiced since the last time we had class..."
Taking a spot in front of a wooden statue, Aya stretched out her muscles. Taijutsu was fun for her and she didn't feel very competitive at the moment, so she thought practicing with a dummy would be a good idea. "Where's Sumire?" the girl asked as she wound up her arm striked with an open palm at the dummy's midsection.

The hit was solid and it didn't reflect any damage on her hand. Aya wished that the dummy was a little shorter, instead of tower over her. Then it would be an easier target. Planting her right foot in the ground, Aya swung her left leg up, aiming for the highest point she could reach in the chest area without jumping. It probably would reach very high. Aya was estimating it to land just below the chest area and hit in the stomach somewhere. However, she still strived to hit it's chest.

Myobi turned at the sound of a small voice. She smiled kindly at Aya. "Hello, Aya. I'm working on my taijutsu so that I can finish learning the Open Palm easier." She turned to her own dummy and studied the way its blocking arms were set up. It was a little unusual, but she thought she could see several openings that could be utilized. At Aya's question, she turned again. "I think she went to work on some jutsus. She was a little upset about being the last to finish the swimming exercise. So she wanted to work on something that she was at least partially good at." Myobi smiled in memory of Sumire's determined expression.
This dummy had several openings that would allow attacks to slip through around the midsection. So with her first attack she sent her fist aiming straight for the dummy's chest. She couldn't quite make it through the arms, however. So her attack bounced uselessly away.

Aya had hit the chest! It wasn't the high part, but it was still considered the chest and not the stomach. She smiled inwardly at herself. "Poor Sumire," Aya said, feeling bad that the girl had finished last. "She would've beaten Izuki, though. I'm sure," she told Myobi as she recalled Izuki's hardships when trying to get across the river. The river had been calm too. That was a fun day...She missed her other classmates; Sano and Meji. Aya wondered when they would get back. As she thought, Aya planted her left foot in the ground and tried the same kick with her right foot, hoping to hit the same spot.

The hit was perfect and exactly the same as the other foot. That was a good thing to know that she could put out the same kick with both legs equally. Aya had trained hard to get her body to be balanced and not favor one set of hands or legs. Spinning around quickly to her left, Aya swung out her arm, hit to the back of the knee cap with the outside of her back hand. Hopefully aiming right, her palm would crash into the wood and wouldn't hit her pinky.

Myobi tried again, this time changing the angle of her attack. Her fist slid between the blocking arms beautifully, allowing her to strike the chest of the dummy. As her hand slammed into the wood again, Myobi winced a bit. She had already been practicing for quite some time. And her hands were getting red from the abrasions along with her feet. She nodded at Aya's assessment. "Possibly. But she's older than the rest of us. And in her mind, that means that she should be at least a bit better."

The hit was solid and perfect. Aya didn't smash her fingers and the strike had hit on target. With her legs twisted up and her body low to the ground, Aya tried to imagine that her opponent had moved to avoid that attack. Staying low, Aya untangled her legs by moving behind the target. Standing up while moving, she brought her other arm around and jabbed an elbow into the wooden lower back.

Myobi tried to get in a kick this time. Her leg swung up, trying to fit between the guard of the dummy. She couldn't quite get her leg high enough, however. She was still only eleven years old and pretty short. Her kick hit the arm instead of the side as she'd planned. She sighed a bit but didn't let it get her down. She was here to train to achieve perfection. If she already had it, then there wouldn't be much purpose for her being here.

She decided to try another kick. Her left foot came up, aiming for its stomach. Unfortunately, she grossly miscalculated. her right foot couldn't support her weight at that angle. So down she went again. She hit the ground again, this time on her back. She laughed, slightly embarrassed to have Aya see her fall. She quickly got back to her feet, offering the younger girl a shy smile.

Ayas moved had been flowing and perfect, but for some reason she just wasn't satisfied. This was the first time she had every practiced with a dummy and it just didn't seem exciting. Maybe she should be training something else... her taijutsu was pretty good for her age group, so maybe she should be practicing something everyone else wasn't good at... Stepping away from her wooden dummy, the girl sighed. "I think...I'm going to bother Momakage into teaching me something new. Practicing with a wooden dummy isn't as fun as I thought it would be," Aya said, knocking on the wood. Putting a smile on her face, she waved to Myobi "Have fun! I'll see you later, ok?" she said, before running off towards the hospital, hoping that her mother was still there.

Myobi nodded. Yes. It was dull work; but without a partner, she really didn't have a choice if she wanted to work on her taijutsu. She didn't want to ask Sumire, since she would probably not take a loss very well. So she smiled and waved bye to Aya as the younger girl left. She was only eight. It was understandable that her attention span wouldn't be very long at all.
Her next attack was another kick. She was determined to make one of them work. She opted for a lower angle, shooting upwards instead of straight in or down. This time it worked as her foot hit the dummy right in its lower abs.
