What I want to make clear, and hopefully this would solve a few problems, is another view on "fertility".

It's not really all about the god and goddess ... uniting. Think of the world we live in, the plants, trees, and flowers, etc. being green and healthy - that's being fertile. Whatever provides us with nutrients and health and energy could be seen as being fertile. Wiccans and some other Pagans strive to keep the world like that. In that sense, then yes, some aspects of Wicca are based on fertility.

that makes a lot of sense now, thank you for that information biggrin

It seems like wicca is a very peaceful religion. i love the way most wiccans think, and what you just said makes so much sense to me. :3

I posted a link up in my links page in the library subforum. Check out Joelle's Sacred Grove. It has a list of Celtic gods, and other things that are interesting.

I'm done with this guild. You encourage silverRavenwolf, you don't know wicca proper from the public face of Wicca (completly different things). You can not lear Wicca from a book. End of story. No book on Wicca will make you Wiccan. No rite you perform will make you Wiccan. You need to trace your training linneage to Gerald Gardner.

I was hoping that you would be open to discussing the differences between Wicca proper and neo-Wicca.

If you are serious about Wicca and honestly feel you are right
come to Wicca FAQ and explain other wise.

I'd like to address some of the points made here by our former member.

A few of us do encourage Ravenwolfs writings, including myself to some extent (I'll admit, some of it gets strained but she does have some good books). While there are a great many who still do, there are just as many that discredit her and flame her books. The opinions up to you, as always. A few of us recommend a few of her books, whether you guild members read them or not is entirely up to you.

Yes there are different ways of practicing Wicca, and those that are tradition bound tend to be more in the opinion that you -must- trace your lineage back through covens. Still, there are those who don't feel you need someones say, or a signature on a piece of paper, or a colored cord around your waist and the title "Lord" or "Lady" to practice Wicca*. The Wicca that was practiced back in the 50's has evolved as time has progressed. Even the original members of Gardners coven broke away from his teachings (check em out. Doreen Valiente, who wrote the charge of the goddess, left his coven because Gardner wanted a younger High Priestess, instead of her). No path is better than the other, as we all believe in different things. Also, not every "proper" Wiccan has this attitude towards those who don't feel they need to be in a coven.

All I ask, everyone here that hasn't picked a path and is wandering around looking for one, explore all of your options. Check out what paths there are out there, look deep inside yourself and ask what it is YOU believe in. Find a path that closest follows that, or if that fails, make up your own. Know what path is what, give respect towards everyone by learning what is and what isn't.

Aaaaand...between the few posts in this guild and the -many- PM's I get from a few of you (daily even, I enjoy them!), and chatting from time to time, we do a lot of discussion about the differences between Wicca "proper" and Neo-Wicca.

*And in my personal opinion, seeing the traffic of Pagans in my area over the years, the ones that usually rely on titles or back their experiences purely on what degree they are tend to be about as seasoned as that. Go outside, listen to the wind, feel the growth and decay happening all around you and then tell me where the real power is.

And, as a breather from the Gaia public forums opinion of Wicca, I dug up this little tidbit from a yahoo question. It's kind of nice to see more positive answers to the question than the elitist blurbs we tend to find on here.
