The only languages that never change are the dead ones.
True, but "smexy" was never a word, and NEVER WILL BE. I always make sure to inform people that it is not a word in large red italicized print.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 05, 2010 4:51 pm

Why not? Smexy has an almost consistent meaning, traceable roots, enough common usage... it has quite the potential for becoming a new English term someday.

By the way, do you know about Freespeling? I consider it a very nice idea, but I'm afraid the huge amount of phonemes the English language has will make freespeling a rather difficult task.

Doesn't change the fact that if even one of my friends uses "smexy" in real life that person is getting a drink laced with stuff that turns your urine blood-red. I will not stand for that abomination being used in real life.

I'd say it's too late to change the HUGE vocabulary English has. Why SHOULDN'T the educated elite force people to learn the correct spellings for thousands and thousands of words rather than have the entire English language rebuilt to accomodate people who "fale" at "speling"?

Here's my opinion on the current topic:

Being a grammar Nazi will ultimately force you off the internet. There is no way in the Netherworld that you'll be able to control people to use correct English, or whatever other language. As well, you will be caught in your own web by screwing up, and trolls will never let you live it down.

Hell, 'troll' isn't even used correctly anymore!

On the otherhand, I hate, HATE noob/chatspeak. If you're too young to type correctly, pack up, and get off the internet. If you know how, but decide to be lazy, I'll troll you until you get off the internet, thus why noobs in towns hate me. =D

If you at least try, that's fine with me. If you're new to the language, then I'll help you lean it.

I mean, I'm Aya, the writter of the Bunbunmaru, and even I screw up once in a while.

And Reisen, you're from the Moon, what right do you have to tell us how to talk anyway? D<

Aya, most -if not all- grammar nazis are trolls who couldn't care less about linguistics. And you're right about the wrong usage of the term troll; the adjectives troll and flamer are grossly misunderstood and confused for one another nowadays.

As for myself, even though I started learning English as my second language when I was four years old or so, I still commit quite a number of grammatical and syntactical errors. sweatdrop Despite that, I absolutely love the English language; recently I've decided to improve myself by learning British English spelling rules (I like them better) and some Middle English words and terms. ^-^

Pardon me for using an outdated expression but... talk to the hand, the face isn't listening.

As someone who has some unpopular opinions I have become very good at ignoring posts like yours, Aya and Colm.^^

Unlike most grammar nazis, I DO care about linguistics. Seeing bad spelling, terms such as "smexy" or "bby", and/or bad grammar in people's posts causes me a lot of psychological suffering.

I was acting silly, was I not?

Or at least I recall being silly by deliberately misspelling every single word.

OI! EVERYONE!

CALM YOUR NERVES!

This isn't a place for flaming each other.

We've got our opinions, so get over it. =.=

We've all got freedom of speech, so if the way one person talks irritates you, it's your problem, not theirs.

And Reisen, you may be trying to use sophisticated language, but you're dropping to childish behaviours now. That' much worse than not knowing a language.

It's pretty bad when one of the least liked Youkai in Gensokyo is trying to break things up... = Д =
