"Oh, dear," Adonai chuckled softly. "Yes ... I see ... it does help to explain why he's still alone, if he's that old and interested in women ... poor Elnara. She's not the type to stand for treatment like that ... I've heard stories ..."

Suddenly he was aware of Rhea staring up at Donovan, her eyes wide in shock.

"Ada!" she exclaimed, and then she went off into a string of elvish.

Adonai chuckled and motioned for her to go back to the children. "She finds your language shocking," he grinned at Donovan, amused even though he knew he shouldn't be. "Try to watch your mouth around the children, will you?"

Arthael's single eye widened slightly. "That will certainly make things interesting," she agreed. "Well then. It's been a long time since we've seen her here."

"She's the one who makes potions, isn't she?" Halmir commented thoughtfully.

Timaeus looked up briefly. He hadn't met Cindy ... curious despite his state of mind, he looked back down at his mug and began to pay more attention to the conversation.

Kara gave Donovan a look, he was normally good except on certain topics. However that was just the way Donovan was, and really she wouldn't have it any other way.

"Lore had been a life saver coming in by chance as he did," Kara told Adonai with a smile.

Lin nodded with a grin, "That's right, Cindy still does, but she does little else. I think she would like ti, for no other reason than to be able to do something new and to be able to spend time looking at all the plants here."

Knowing her sister.

Donovan didn't even bother to try and act innocent, he knew how he was.

"I'll try to keep it in, otherwise I know next time Kara will remind me," he joked and took her hand before she could whack him again...

"It's good for Lore too though," he added to Kara's thought, "I've heard of him, hard not to when the guy takes care of the largest library in the city, before if he could have, he would have probably just lived in there all the time."

Adonai smiled warmly. "Yes," he murmured, "they are indeed good for each other ... I don't pretend to know about Elnara's past, or Lore's for that matter, but I do know that he has given her a new life, and she him."

He chuckled softly. "I have to admit, though ... I can see his reasoning for wanting to stay at his work all the time ... I might be the same, if not for Shael."

He brushed off his robes. "And on that note, I must take Rhea back home for now," he smiled. "Shael will be expecting us already. We will be back tomorrow, though probably not for lessons for Rhea ... more likely for funeral arrangements."

He looked over at Donovan. "Did Celeborn already talk to you about that?"

"And Adonai would like it too," Halmir nodded. "He was so shy when he was a child ... Cindy was the only one he would really talk to. Like Adonijah and Rose, only ... not quite so bad."

Arthael slapped his arm. "You promised you wouldn't bother Adonijah," she reminded him in an annoyed tone that indicated she had to remind him of this often. "Leave the poor boy alone, it's no wonder he's terrified of people."

Lin chewed her lower lip, somethings never change... though she was sure Halmir wasn't teasing. She had never thought of it that way, but it made sense, but then again Adonijah she suspected liked Rose... really really liked Rose.

"We had dinner with him, he, Adan and Rose came over for dinner," Lin offered, "And it went fine."

Donovan nodded at that, he had been told about that.

"Yes, he did. We'll be staying until the funeral is over," Donovan told Adonai, "No sooner, it would be for the best."

The dead needed their dues after all, no matter what world they lived in.

Adonai nodded. "It's a shame we can't return her body to her family," he murmured sadly, "but no one will be taking the children home until Stirring. It's simply too long a wait. The weather is too risky for a trip now, though."

He sighed, then called Rhea to him. "Say goodbye to everyone," he instructed her, "and then we have to go home for lunch. Perhaps if you tell Mama about the children, you can come back this afternoon."

Rhea's eyes grew wide with excitement, and she nodded happily and turned to bid the other children farewell for the moment.

Halmir laughed. "And I'm sure he was seated between Rose and his brother?" he guessed. "Any other seating arrangement and he would have bolted. Am I right?"

Arthael sighed and shook her head, but she gave up (rather quickly) on trying to get Halmir to mind his own business.

Lin tried not to laugh, she knew how it was. Sometimes Halmir needed a whack upside the head to get thigns through with him, but he was still a good guy, just well... sometimes things went in one ear and out of the other.

"Yes... yes he was, and I think Saki was under the table," Lin replied thougthfully, "But it's only normal, I haven't really met him until then. I don't go and visit Aliya like the way Feng and Ryu do."

"Unfortunately, yes," Arthael agreed, finally resigning herself to the fact that they were going to be talking about the poor boy, whether she wanted them to or not. "That is normal for him. I still don't know how Rose first managed to get him to talk to her. Perhaps because she used to be nearly as shy as him."

Halmir chuckled in amusement. "I remember when she first came to the ranch ... her brother wanted to do everything, she wanted to do nothing. She trusted no one."

"And now she's related to half of them," Arthael allowed herself a small smile.

"We'll see you later Rhea," Kara told the little girl.

Whether it be today or tomorrow it didn't matter, it would be just nice to have her back again.

Lin smiled at that, she thought it was neat how it all happened, though very unexpected.

"Well, I'm glad for him, I mean.. I remember when Miyu was like that..."

Well sometimes she was still like that, but at least she didn't skitter at everything.

Rhea finished saying her goodbyes and then hurried after her father. She smiled warmly at Kara and waved cheerfully as the two of them headed towards the door. Just as they were leaving, Rhea tugged on Adonai's robes and asked, "Who was that with Kara, Ada?"

And then they were gone.

Halmir smiled thoughtfully. "I don't believe I've had the pleasure of-"

"-tormenting the poor girl," Arthael cut in sharply. "Halmir, don't you dare even think about it. You'd terrify her so much she would hide in Aragost's room and never come out again without him."

Halmir looked crushed. "I would not!" he protested. "I would just-"

"-scare her no matter your intentions," Arthael said flatly, cutting him off again. "Forget it."

Kara laughed hearing the question as the two were out the door. She looked up at Donovan in amusement, it was such an innocent question after all. Of course Rhea hadn't met Donovan until that moment.

Lin chewed her lip again trying not to laugh, Halmir had not changed at all that was for certain in more ways than one. She was going to have to agree with Arthael though, Miyu would run mi-ing and skittering all the way to Aragost's room. It wasn't Halmir's fault though that he looked like that... or that Miyu just happened to take after Jaseth.

She coughed, "Have you met Naida yet?" she asked changing the subject.

Arthael shook her head. "We've heard a bit about her," she replied, "but not met her. I understand that she takes after her mother ..."

Halmir's eyes began to sparkle once more. "Quite a beauty, then," he murmured, earning him a slap from Arthael. "Ow! Hey! I meant to take her likeness!"

Arthael's single eye narrowed as she looked at her husband. "You're lucky I know you so well," she muttered.

Lin shook her head and looked at Halmir, she could also see in her mind's eye the first time she had ever seen Arthael and Halmir together. It had been winter, in both Gaia and here... it was close to Christmas... Arthael had punched Halmir for his comments.

That had been so long ago now.

"I think Arthael meant in personality wise Naida takes after Feng," she considered it for a moment before resisting the urge to roll her eyes at Halmir yet again, "Should ask Feng to bring Naida, it's been a while since anyone here has seen anyone as small as I once was."

"I think it would be nice," Arthael agreed. "After all, we keep hearing so much about her, it would be nice to finally meet her. Not to mention, I haven't really met Feng yet, and Halmir is still working on the same painting that he began when he first met her."

"It's not my fault it's taking so long," Halmir frowned. "Do you realize how little time I actually have to paint?"

Arthael put one hand on his knee and squeezed it slightly. "I know," she murmured softly, her expression softening slightly. "I know."
