If you were to ask Ivie, right here, right now, she'd boast absolutely no skills whatsoever. But then, Ivie was never very good at talking herself up. When interviewers for jobs asked her about her strengths she always came up dumb and began stammering about how she was a hard worker, but that was all she'd ever be able to come up with.

It was true, though.

It was probably a very good thing Nye didn't decide to lecture Ivie as it might well have resulted in her crying again. She knew she was stupid, she knew she was awful and that's why she'd just wanted to end it, right there, right then. To stop being a bother to everyone and such an inconvinience, only to get hurt and need to be coddled all over again.

Nye might not have been thinking, but Ivie certainly was. A tear or two ran down her cheek and she let them fall, not wanting Nye to know she was being a weak and stupid girl. Again. Luckily, as if right on cue, Lizzie trapsed into the world. Being a dog she was rather sensative to the high emotions running through the room and, in true puppy fashion, took it upon herself to make things better. No matter what her owner said, the small golden puppy leapt up onto the bed and floundered her way over to Ivie, lapping at her face before plonking herself quite firmly into the girl's lap.

Ivie giggled. It was a rather broken, teary sound but still, it was a giggle.

"Is she allowed on the bed?" She asked quietly, keeping her voice low to avoid trembling. Whether she was or not, Lizzie was making herself quite at home on Ivie's lap.

"Ick, I can totally understand that." Arvia got it a lot from her mother, actually. She was quite a noisy woman. "Oh, already?" She glanced at her watch, well manicured eyebrows raising in surprise.

"That went fast! Well, it's not as if we don't have the whole weekend here." She scrambled out of the warm embrace of the sofa and stretched, her arms raising above her head. "We'd better go unless we want everyone to eat the good stuff first. I think it's a buffet."

Nye tsked quietly when Lizzie climbed onto his bed. "Yeah, she's a spoiled dog."

He had been with enough girls to know when they were crying. Her voice had cracked slightly even when she tried to hard to hide it, and who honestly wouldn't cry after an episode like that? Wearily, Nye zipped his hair kit and put it down near the bed, setting the hair dryer on the slightly cluttered nightstand.

Slowly, ever so slowly, he leaned himself over and timidly wrapped his arms around Ivie. It wasn't a forward motion, but more of a comforting one. The embrace was light enough for her to push away if she didn't want it, but it was there, and that's what mattered, right?

Gale slid off the sofa and stretched as well, yawning simultaneously. He finally felt his rear starting to hurt from his fall earlier, but didn't say a word about it.

"Lessgo," he said sleepily. "I 'ate ge'ing th' lef'over food..."

Guess who was always last to dinner?

It was a mixed reaction really. Ivie, in all honesty, was still terrified of Nye suddenly turning on her but all her instincts told her to trust him, right here right now. He'd been nothing but good to her, bar that one even, and the last time she'd cried...he'd just been there. Butch had never been there. Hell, her parents hadn't really been there the last few years and she'd been very, very alone.

For this reason, with a friendly puppy on her lap and a strong pair of arms around her, Ivie let herself relax and lean back into Nye. It was okay, she'd let him touch her, and she even turned her head a little into his neck. For now, tonight, she was upset enough that she really didn't care what happened to her.

She had, after all, just nearly died.

Gale was, that's who. Arvia was used to sit-down with the family meals with balanced portions on each plate, and she expected such service from such an establishment as this.

The resturant was in the same building as the cafe, thankfully, and neither had to brave the cold again. As they walked up to the giant dining room, side by side, a waiter tottered over to meet them at the door.

"Good evening, a table for two?"

Arvia coughed. "Ah, no. We're here with a group?"

Nye was never technically fully alone, but the doctors had always said that it wasn't a second personality, just the polar opposite of the good part of his. They also told him that, in fact, there was a good chance of the two eventually merging and stabilizing, but before then, he had to be drugged and watched.

So, Ivie, if he takes his pills, it'll all be alright.

Once Ivie relaxed in his arms, Nye decided it was safe to tighten his grip a little. He still wasn't constricting her in any way, but his presence was definitely established in the space. He let her lean into him and just sat there quietly with nothing but the girls' (he called Lizzie his girl, too!) steady breathing to fill the silence.

    And that was alright.

Gale's face turned a shade pinker. The waiter- an awkward looking man; tall, lanky, with thick-rimmed glasses and a crisp uniform, eyed the pair in a scrutinizing manner. "Alright..." he said, unsure on the status of their possible lie.

Since Gale didn't really know any of Arvia's friends, nor did he care to after meeting Michelle, he nudged her elbow gently to prompt her to find them if they would be together for the first dinner of the weekend.

Then it was an awfully good thing he'd taken his pills today. The last thing Ivie needed right now, in this condition, was Anti!Nye laughing at her for it. Lets not go into how badly that would go.

Highly sensative, Ivie did feel Nye's arms tighten around her but right now she didn't care. When one's just gone through a suicide attempt it would only make sense that, for the next little while, they really didn't care what happened to them. Right now Nye could have rolled her over and done whatever he liked to her - gods forbid - and she wouldn't have put up a fuss in her mental condition.

But he wasn't, and she didn't think he would, so it was very slowly and very carefully that Ivie repositioned herself. Slowly, as if he might turn on her at any moment. By the time she was done she was quite comfortably nestled against Nye's chest, Lizzie still snuggled up on her lap. Her head rested just above his collar-bone, in the crock of heis neck. Her hand rested comfortably against his side, the side opposite to her, and she quietly closed her eyes.

He could completely and utterly break her right now by saying the wrong thing or doing the wrong things, but knowing Nye like I, the author, do we know he wouldn't. She was putting that much trust in him at that moment with both that, and all the bad things hugs had led to in the past.

"M'sorry." She murmered, the tears still flowing but silently save for the slight wobble in her voice. And that was all she said, her hand gripping his shirt and just...getting comfortable. She was so tired.

Turning on her 'I'm better than you and you better acknowledge that' facade, Arvia simply eyed down the waiter until he began squirming. If the look was successful he'd stop debating with himself about her and Gale's relationship and start concentrating on more important things. Like giving them the service they were paying for.

"Ah, over there." She said, spotting the small group of her University friends by one of the windows. She snagged Gale's sleeve between two fingers, tugging him after her towards the group. There were a few calls of 'Arvia! Good to see you!' and 'Whooo, who's the hotty, Arvi?'. Arvia forced her trademark smile onto her face and glanced back at Gale.

"Just be yourself." They took seats at the end of the table, the opposite end to Michelle Arvia noticed with a smirk. That wouldn't stop the girl, but at least they'd get to eat in peace. "You guys didn't eat yet?"

"Course not, we were waiting for you." One of the guys boomed in a voice that just screamed that he was trying to impress the girl. His arm attempted to snake around Arvia's shoulder, and she batted at it.

"Well then, what are we waiting for!" She said, her smile slipping a little. Perhaps the dinner wouldn't be as peaceful as she thought.

Nye kept his body still, trying his best not to seem tense or push his luck any further. She let him hold her, and that was good enough. That was his way of getting up the trust scale again, really. Just being there.

Afraid of shattering the poor dear, Nye decided that this was definitely good enough. All she needed was some rest and attention, and he had a feeling that there would be an abundance of warm beverages over the next long while.

Gale honest to God pitied the girl sometimes.

As he joined the rather foreign group at the table, finding a seat next to Arvia so he wouldn't be completely out of his element, he honest to goodness saw some of the odd, faked relationships going on. Quite obviously, judging by that rather obnoxious fellow nearby, Arvia got enough attention from the opposite sex, and quite obviously most of it was clearly unwanted.

And in the same day, Michelle had decided to attach herself to him. Huh.

Gale turned his head and gave Arvia a reassuring smile. Maybe the company was odd, but he was there as a friend and a guard.

Well. The friend part was unknowingly temporary.

Hopefully Nye had taken his potty break earlier because it only took a few minutes for Ivie to begin drifting off in his arms. It was hard not to feel safe when snuggled against someone's chest like this, with a dopey puppy snoring on your lap, and with the entire stress build up Ivie was out like a light within the next few minutes.

It was a deep, heavy sleep. Ivie barely stirred as her and Nye settled into their positions for the night, nor when Lizzie wormed her way off the bed to visit her litter-bin and later re-jumped onto the bed. She was quite dead to the world, apologies for the bad phrasing, and it wasn't until sunlight began to creep through Nye's open window that she showed any signs of waking.

Then Nye's phone rang. It was a custom ring - the French National Anthem in fact - that he had reserved for his boss, and it was terrifically loud. Loud enough to cause Ivie to groan a little and bury her head further into her pillow; Nye's poor, unsuspecting chest. It was too early...

Of course Gale was her friend! Perhaps not her best friend, and she wouldn't invite him to sleep over and do each other's hair, but still a friend. She bothered to speak to him, didn't she?

Remembering her manners, Arvia took a few moments to introduce Gale to the table and her friends, not all that interested in his social class or things like that, welcomed him. Some of the girls, slightly more interested (and one rather gay looking boy), stayed seated as Arvia and some of the others got to their feet and moved over to the buffet.

The boy from earlier, we shall dub him Terry, sidled up to Arvia by the salad table. "So did you reconsider my offer?"

Offer? Oh, right, he liked to try and talk to her. "Terrance I've already told you I'm not going to the Engineering ball. It's far too rowdy." She didn't even bother to look at him, helping herself to the potato salad.

"Aw, even with me Arvia?" Terrance cooed, wrapping an arm around Arvia's waist as if they were a couple. He coughed awkwardly, though, when the look she sent him was decidedly fridged. "Well, think about it..."
PostPosted: Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:07 pm

Nye had quite the peaceful sleep, even if he ended up falling asleep a bit later than Ivie. He didn't wake between Lizzie's potty breaks either, and even when the sunlight crept through the shades and shone almost directly on his face. He was happy to not be alone for a night, even if it was under the present, slightly morbid circumstances.

The ringtone woke him only when his subconscious realized who it was. Sleepily, he reached to the nightstand with eyes closed, grabbing blindly at the singing, vibrating object. Once he got a hold of it, muscle memory helped the phone open and brought it to his ear. "What is it?" he mumbled sleepily.

    God save his ears.

"NYYYYYYYEEEEEEEE! You're ALIIIVE! What HAPPENED? Why haven't you been at work oh god the customers have been cancelling and asking if you switched salons- you haven't switched salons, have you? WHERE ARE YOU?"
    "'M sleepy, JP."
"That's never stopped you from coming to work before! WHERE ARE YOU?"

Nye brought the screaming object away from his ears, opening his eyes slightly just to glare daggers at it. This was so... so... Jean-Pierre. He just hoped it wouldn't wake Ivie.
    "I hurt my wrist. I've got a doctor's---"
"YOUU DIIIIIIIID WHAAAT? ARE YOU OKAY? WILL YOU LIVE? WH--"
"JP. I have guests. I'll call you after my appointment. Loveyoubye."

The phone was shut with a click and Nye closed his eyes, but everything was already sharpened by his semi-awake senses. The light on his face suddenly bothered him and Lizzie's added weight kept shifting, and ...

    Gah.

Gale gave a trademark smile and a wave when he was so kindly introduced to the table. He honestly never thought himself attractive, but by the way those girls (and that one rather awkward boy, he noted) were oogling him, he wasn't sure what to think. He left it at being the 'new guy' that everyone wants to get close to, and just excused himself briefly to go get food.

Of course, guess who followed him?

Gale was a little on edge when Michelle followed him to the buffet, and that was making it hard to focus on scooping rice up onto his plate. Mm. Rice. Plain, but so, so good. He definitely felt like Asian today, and it was nice to know he was getting something better than just the staple grocery store stuff. Yummy!

Without saying much other than the polite essentials, Michelle decided that it was wise to reach behind Gale to get the ... well, whatever she was getting, that didn't concern Gale until he felt her just sort of press up against his back. Now, the girl was wearing a low-cut shirt as it was, but her pressing up like that just completely made her... pop out (and gave Gale the shivers, if you'd like to know).

The waiter from earlier even noticed this interaction! His eyebrows raised in surprise as he shook his head. Not allowed to say anything about his customers, he only refrained to his thought.
    That hussy!

Gale turned his head, and found that guy's arm looped around Arvia's waist. Though he couldn't see her face, the added discomfort of Michelle deliberately behind him like that just made the boy mad.

He wasn't sure about why he was mad over the Arvia ordeal. So what, right? Right. He had his own problems.

Problems he could avoid if there was room to lean forward. Clever one!

She was doing her best to ignore the french-tinged warbling coming from Nye's gone but it was really, really quite hard. This boss of his had an awfully loud voice and with her own head so close to the phone it was difficult for the crazy-french man not to wake her up. She really didn't feel like moving, that same heavy, leaden feeling from the night before still loitering in her limbs, but as she slowly woke up she realised something...she was curled up in Nye's bed on the aforementioned man's chest in just a pair of boxers and an oversized t-shirt.

It was enough to send her sitting up straight as an arrow. "Ohmygod, I'm so sorry - " She cut herself off with a groan and all but flopped over, supporting herself with one arm. Her limbs might have ached but her lungs, having drawn in a deep breath in her panic, were protesting loudly about their treatment the day before. It took her a moment or two to calm down (and subtly shift off Nye's lap) before she could speak again.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have fallen asleep on you like that gods I must have sent your legs to sleep I'll just head down to the couch and leave you be okay? Better yet, I'll go home and not bother you again and - " another deep breath, and Ivie shakily swung her legs over the side of the bed with every intention of removing herself from Nye's presense. She was rambling again; obviously she was feeling embaressed. And why shouldn't she? She'd just attempted to suicide on the man and then slept all over him! Gods, she hoped she hadn't drooled.

Sure, she'd think about it. Oh look she was done, and her answer was still no. She finished with the potatos and moved on to bigger and better things, only to glance over and see Michelle popping her boobs all over Gale's back and Gale looking particularly uncomfortable about the entire ordeal. Arvia's teeth grit, and she dolluped some mayonaise onto her plate particularly violently before returning to the table, making sure to pass the 'couple'.

"Michelle, put yourself away woman." Arvia's voice wasn't any warmer than it had been with Terry just moments before. "You're flashing everyone in the resturant."

Even this was enough to drive the rather flirtatious Michelle to cough and pull herself back into her shirt, letting go of Gale and having the good graces to look at least embaressed about it. Satisfied, Arvia simply glanced at Gale before returning to the table and sitting down, a glare sending Terry to sit at the other end of the table.

Satisfied, she quietly said grace to herself and began her meal.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:50 pm

Nye rubbed his eyes sleepily while Ivie went on about how uncomfortable she must have made him (quite the opposite, really) and all that good stuff, and even though it was plain to see that her body was still recovering, she wanted to get out with the pretense of not bothering him again. Honestly, how much trouble could a girl pull on herself before realizing that she was doing some good, too? Nye was just glad that she was still alive and obviously well enough to argue and be her regular self.

Sleepily, he swung his legs over his side of the bed, only nearly missing a flustered Lizzie's tail. "It's not a problem, Ivie," he mumbled through a yawn, wondering if that sounded like English at all. "Get back into bed and tell me what to order you for breakfast. You're gonna need a couple of days of rest. My wrist does, too, so. 'S not like it's any trouble for me." He decided it would be wise to get that out there right there and then, before she even bothered to put up a fuss.

Gale was so thankful for the relief on his back. There were still goosebumps crawling up and down his scarred arms and back, and his face and hands, he was sure, were particularly red. He did have that weird thing about him- when his face blushed, his hands started to turn red as well. No one quite knew why. Of course at this point, his neck was slightly tinted too. Poor boy.

He was quick about finishing his plate- rice, sweet-and-sour chicken, and a helping of caesar salad- and returning to the table, still violently red. This dinner was less and less peaceful by the second.

Were this any other occasion Ivie would have been out of there straight away, considering her own presences there simply an inconvinience for him, but today? The air outside the bed was cold, the heater had turned itself off in the middle of the night in reaction to their combined heat, and the bed itself was awfully, awfully comfortable she'd found.

So she slipped her legs back into bed and pulled the covers up to her chin. The pillows were rearranged and by the time Nye was leaving the room, she was all propped up and looking at him with large, slightly sleepy green eyes.

"I should be looking after you, though..." She said quietly. She was the nurse, after all. Still, she felt terrible, like she was the victim of a particularly horrible cold. "...I'm not really hungry, thanks." She continued just as quietly, sinking under the covers. Until Lizzie jumped onto her chest and begun licking her forehead. That would bring a smile to anyone's face.

For both Gale and Arvia the dinner was likely a little strained. Terry didn't let up in his flirtations and neither did Michelle, both laying it on thick. It was enough drive Arvia nuts and it soon showed; she wasn't a big drinker, but as the night wore on she found herself sipping drink after drink. Slowly but surely. It certainly made her conversation flow a little easier, and her smiles become a little more genuine.

It also made Terry's advances a little more...touchy-feely. Quite blatantly ignoring Gale on the other side of her, the man's hand came to rest on Arvia's chair, close enough to brush rather obviously against her thigh. He'd obviously had a few drinks himself.

"C'mon, Arvi. How bout you and me head back to my room, mm?" He said, leaning his chin on her shoulder. "You can't keep playing ice queen forever~"

Arvia, unfortunately, giggled before trying to edge away from Terry. "Nuh-uh, I totally can." Her words were slightly slurry by this stage. Ten pm and at her limit. Good going, Arvia.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 30, 2008 11:05 pm

Nye said nothing about the taking-care-of comment, only wandered to his closet of wonders and single-handedly (pun intended) picked out his outfit for the day- a pair of jeans and a sweater. The winter usual. "You've gotta eat something! You're a nurse, you know what a lack of food can do."

He was determined to get her to order something before getting eaten by Lizzie.

Gale had maybe a few sips of one drink, constantly reminding himself that he was on the job and that now was not the time to try some crazy expensive but really good-sounding drinks. He always watched to make sure that Arvia's weren't spiked or anything. Always aware. Particularly aware of Terry.

As he found out, her drinks didn't need to be tampered with.

There was quite a bit of flirting going on between Terry and Arvia, and she couldn't even put up her general ice queen act. Gale was doing very well at completely ignoring Michelle (who was also very drunk, might I add), who's advances also got a little more physical.

Being surrounded by hormones-aroused-by-alcohol on both sides made Gale rather uncomfortable. The last bit of the Terry/Arvia conversation was what bugged him, though. They needed to get out of there before Arvia did something stupid. Like sleeping with that guy. She could if she wanted to, but she'd need to at least be sober and convincing. And even then, for some reason, Gale didn't want her to have anything to do with that guy. Huh.

"Y'know," he said with a hint of a yawn in his voice. Faker. "We shoul' prolllyyy star' 'eadin' back. Long day t'morrow, n' all."

Why on earth did he stick to jeans and sweaters when he had more clothes than he could poke a stick at? Ivie had to wonder as she pushed Lizzie to the side a little to peek out at Nye. Oh but she wasn't hungry, she wanted to whine, and she didn't really feel like she could keep much down either. She might have been a nurse but she wasn't on the job, so she could be as childish as she liked. Right?

Some toast...I guess? No, wait, soup." She'd said toast mostly because it was the easiest thing she could think of, but on second thought she wasn't feeling fantastic...and soup would go down better. "Yeah, just some soup..."

And she sunk under the covers once again. Hm. It smelt of Nye in here. What a surprise.

Gale should have tried something, Arvia's daddy had paid for the trip to be all inclusive so really they could spend whatever they liked. Arvia had sure been taking advantage of it and it was only on her eight drink that two things happened; Terry's hand met her thigh good and proper and Gale decided it was time to go.

Not a moment too soon. Arvia's hand came down with a slap on Terry's and she mustered up the best angry glare she could muster, nevermind how diluted by alcahol it may have been. She wobbled to her feet, quite done with her meal and the company.

She'd thank Gale for it later. She really, really, really didn't want to sleep with Terry. Ever. Drunk or not.

"He's...got a point." Her words were a little furry as she tottered a little on those stupid heels she was wearing. Her arm shot out to steady herself against Gale's arm as she blinked, glancing at him. "Where's my room again?"

Apparently she was more gone than they'd thought. Smirking, Terry got to his feet. "You head to bed, Gale, I'll take care of Arvia here."

Arvia sent him a nasty look.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 30, 2008 11:39 pm

Nye kinda had a feeling she'd go for the minimal. Well, if she wanted soup, he'd get her soup. Chicken noodle, he presumed, was the best to cold-winter-morning-itis. Especially the best chicken noodle in town! He himself would go for cream of broccoli. Mm. Yummy!

"Will do," he answered with a salute before leaving the room.

He changed in that accursed bathroom, beginning to think of coaxing his landlord to let him change that tub to a shower. There would be bad memories associated with it for the rest of forever, after all! Quicker than usual, Nye put his clothes on, brushed his teeth and washed up with his wonderful facial cleansers before going for the phone and ordering their meal.

Now he just had to keep the tab under wraps, or Ivie would shoot him.

Gale sighed and wrapped one arm securely around Arvia's shoulders, not only to steady and guide her, but for... protective purposes, as well. That Terry kid was really pushing his limits. "Ah, y'know, I don' think I'll trou'le you with 'er."

Anyone sane and with half a brain would know that casual, wonderful sentence had the pretext of: 'Not if you want a broken nose you won't, buddy.'

And with that, he began leading Arvia off to her room, eager to get back into his own.

And to think Ivie was expecting tinned soup warmed up in the microwave. As Nye vacated the room she simply snuggled a little futher under the covers, turning her back to the door and tugging Lizzie over. The puppy was rather complacent - after all, what puppy didn't like being snuggled? - and flopped down next to what she'd dubbed her second owners and set to work licking Ivie's hands as clean as they could be. It made Ivie smile; they had dogs brought into the hospital sometimes to visit the patient for just this reason; they were comforting and brought a smile to your face no matter how bad you were feeling.

"I'm a stupid, selfish b***h, Lizzie my friend." She murmered to the pup, who in return just looked at her with her trusting great puppy eyes. Ivie smiled sadly. "Yup. Selfish. It would have been just terrible for Nye if I died here...I don't even have the decency to do it at home..."

That might have been because she had no bath at home. Just maybe.

Terry, however, was looking mighty annoyed that Gale was rather effectively c**k-blocking him. He sat down with a grunt, and a 'whatever you want, man' and proceeded to ignore the duo. Arvia, however, leant into Gale because she really, really wasn't stable right now. Goodness knows how she got home back in the city; heels were completely rediculous when one was tipsy.

Their rooms were a bit of a distance from the resturant, the other side of the hotel and one floor up, and Arvia wasn't really thinking too straight. By the time they'd reached the lift, she'd made up her mind that Gale needed thanking for saving her from the eeeevil Terry's clutches.

"You're so nice to me, Gale." She said, leaning a little more against him than she should have. Surprisingly it only took her a split second after the elevator doors shut for her to inch onto her tip-toes and press her lips rather firmly to his. She'd been drinking fruity alcahol too, but the kiss was relatively chaste coming from a drunk girl. Luuucky you, Gale. She hadn't even pressed the button yet.
