"I wanna be able to do that!" Two paws breathed.
Venka chuckled. "Yeah? Me too." then she picked her way along the ground, following Tyleet's sendings.

*I was born to a Goback and a Sunvilliager, I may have been raised in the woods but I will never be of them, not the way the Wolfriders are. Not the way Tyleet is.* Venka sent back, hearing the question.
Snowracer, after checking all the cubs and nuzzling his mate, still bloody, turned to woodshot. "What in the lost dwelling of the highones is going on?"

Knifefall frowned. *Does that mean I'll never be like Tyleet too?*
Woodshot sighed, "Apparently your lovemate and your children had a misunderstanding. She doesn't like Gobacks so how can she love them. I think it's worked out now though." He grinned, "And thank the High Ones it is."

(Doing forms and Missed Cutter and Leetah, so just going to post them with Venka a bit. Feel free to read or ignore as you desire) Quote: Cutter was a great chief in many ways, but while there were somethings that he excelled in, there were far more things that he failed to be. Omniscient was never a trait of Cutter's, and this was neither the first time, nor would it be the last, that he was caught with.... well... you know. Suffice it to say, he was unaware of Venka's arrival, or the panicked friend on her way to his nest. He was, however, taking a few moments respite from dealing with Strongbow to thoroughly enjoy the scent and feel of his Lifemate. Quote: Leetah was having quite the enjoyable time herself. She ruffled his hair. Her barbarian. The words did not need to be said, or sent any more. She knew he could read her eyes as well as he could the forest floor. Quote: Cutter smiled and leaned to kiss his mate again when a sound broke through the tranquil night. He lifted his head and listened. The rapid steps across the carpet of grass had been soft, stealthy, but in the way of a Wolfrider who wasn't hunting. The sounds of her climbing the tree were even more obvious. Whoever it was didn't care to practice stealth. Quote: "Cutter?" Leetah asked, feeling the tension in him. It had nothing to do with being a healer and everything to do with knowing him so well. She kept her voice soft, so as not to interrupt whatever he might be hearing. It was times such as this that she was so keenly reminded that he bore the blood of a wolf, of the rift between them. She could bring them closer, take his mortality from him. Thanks to Skywise she knew that she had that power. But she wouldn't do that to him. The wolf was a part of his soul, the wolf was a part of what she had fallen in love with. Quote: Cutter scented the air. Whoever was coming was finally close enough that he could distinguish the moving sent from the day to day scents of the Wolfriders. "Nightfall," he said. He relaxed for a moment then became still again. For Nightfall to be so obvious, something was probably wrong. And with so many cubs in an unknown holt where magic ran strangely... there was much that could go wrong. Cutter rolled out from under the furs and reached for his leathers. Quote: "Cutter," Nightfall said, pulling herself in. Quote: Cutter pulled on his pants, nodding to show Nightfall that she had his attention. Quote: Leetah gave her friend a small smile as she sat, pulling the furs around her. She did not have the same wariness that Cutter did, but then her life before they met had been very different from his. Quote: "Snowfall found Venka," Nightfall began. Quote: Leetah laughed softly. "Slow down, peace, my friend. Who is Snowfall?

Was Cutter's concern. There were not many of them in the holt yet. Quote: Nightfall grinned. "Apparently she and Snow Racer have decided to become lifemates. The cubs are adorable. Snowfall is going to be a handful." Quote: "That's wonderful!" Leetah exclaimed. She got up to hug her friend tightly.

Would they die so fast? The Woflriders gained a great many things from their bond with the wolves. Mortality was one of them. She already had so brief a span of years with Cutter. How much sooner then expected would she loose him? How soon would he age? Would he die? Pain wrenched at her heart. She couldn't loose Cutter. She couldn't. From the first she knew she would, but how was she to count now? Centuries? Decades? Years? Days? She glanced at him, as if to reassure her self that he still looked young, still was here. In Skywise's locksend Cutter had already begun to grow face fur. She studied the smooth plains of a face she knew so well. When would age change the familiar lines and softness? Quote: Cutter hugged Nightfall after Leetah has stepped aside. "The Highones have been generous with their blessings. Cubs, new friends, a good holt, and more and more of us coming together. And now you say the cub found some one. Venka?" Cutter asked. The name was familiar, but he couldn't place it. Quote: Leetah frowned. Venka. She should know that name, she felt very much like she should, yet it escaped her, distracted as she was. Quote: "That's right," Nightfall said softly. "Puckernuts. I forgot that we all have different memories..." she trailed off, wondering what Moonshade and Strongbow remembered. She should ask them. Nightfall shook her head, bringing herself back to the issue at hand. "Venka is Khavi's daughter." Quote: Startled, Cutter glanced at Leetah. Quote: Leetah was glancing back at him. It had only been one night, before they went off to war. Quote: Unknowingly, Cutter's thoughts followed the same path as his lifemates. There had been no recognition... of course the go backs didn't have recognition... Quote: Nightfall looked between the two of them, knowing both of her friends well enough to read their faces. "Venka has dark skin and black hair. And gold eyes," she informed them, mildly amused. Quote: Leetah gaped at her friend. "Dark skin and black hair...." she started. "But.... that would mean..."

Not that she harbored either any ill will, and she wasn't quite jealous, she just couldn't picture them raising a cub together. Quote: "Yes," Nightfall confirmed. "Though apparently Khavi told him that she was still born. And that she had been, well, I get the feeling she implied the father was some one specific. Anyway, when Rayek flipped out over the Go-backs failing to protect Eukar from the trolls, he very nearly killed Venka and a number of the other Go-backs. He sent them wandering, and Khavi left with Venka to plot her revenge." Quote: Cutter leaned forward, intent on the tale. This would make some howl! Quote: "Where did she take her?" Leetah asked, having a feeling where this was going. It resonated with something she almost remembered. Quote: Nightfall grinned. "To the Wolfriders. She thought Cutter would help her teach Venka to hate Rayek. Khavi intended for the cub to kill her father." Quote: "The wolfrider's wouldn't teach her that!" Cutter cried out, startled and more then a little alarmed. He would not believe in any future, any world, where he would have. "Elf must not kill elf," Cutter said firmly. "Even an enemy." Quote: "Yes," Venka said, standing on the branch outside beside Tyleet. "But I do believe it took mother some time to realize that you did not just say those words, but you actually meant them. When she tired of your rules, she left. She did not take me with you. I was already too much a Wolfrider for her tastes."

He recalls Dewshine's son being kidnapped by Winowill, recalls your father..." Leetah stopped when Nightfall spoke over her. Quote: "Winowill is here!" Nightfall burst out, the name triggering the memory amidst the chaos. Quote: New Moon was in Cutter's hand before he was even aware of having stooped to retrieve it. "The Black snake is in the holt?" he asked, nose to the wind. Quote: Venka made a frustrated noise. "I already told Nightfall. Why don't adults ever LISTEN? She is not in the holt. I sensed her when I was wandering, but she didn't sense me. She has a new mountain lair. She doesn't know anyone else is here." Quote: Leetah sighed softly. "You were very brave to bring us this information, but Winowill is dangerous. A cub shouldn't be anywhere near her, especially alone."

Without Leetah, Skywise, or his cubs, he had been broody, and Venka and Tyleet had been a balm to his soul. Now, Nightfall didn't know where Venka would stand. Quote: "And why would we begin to believe that as anything more then an excuse that adults use to feel important?" Venka asked. Quote: Cutter hooked new moon to his waist and sat back so he could cross his forelegs across his still bare chest. Quote: It had been much more impressive a stance when he had actually had arms, Nightfall thought. Quote: Redlance, as if on cue, sent. *Anyone out hunting come back NOW! I need to firm up the vine wall, there may be dangers in the woods.* Quote: Cutter heard Bloodhunt's reply. From the expressions of his mate, his friend and the cubs, they hadn't. Quote: *I can handle any dangers the woods can offer,* Blood hunt had snarled. Quote: Cutter's sending broke in, including every one Blood Hunt had. *That was not a suggestion, Blood Hunt. Winowill has been spotted, and we wont let that black snake steal any more babies* after Winowill has been spotted, Cutter had excluded the cubs from the sending. Quote: After a moment, Redlance sent *All the cubs are in* Quote: "Thank the highones," Nightfall whispered. Quote: All the cubs... Cutter was about to send back when Bloodhunt unknowingly answered the question.

"I am going to call council. We are going to talk, and then we are going to have a howl. Nightfall, can you work with Two Moons, and see to it that she knows the story of madcoil for tonight?" Quote: Nightfall nodded. "I can handle that." Quote: "Make sure Vinheart is there too," Leetah said softly. Quote: Cutter effectively ended the conversation by blasting an open sending out to all the wolfriders, and the various lovemates in the holt. *When the moon is at it's highest, we will have a council. You will all attend.*
