Teddy smiled, his body nestled against Markus. This was hands down the best dream he'd ever had. He could get used to this; he could really, really get used to this. "How are you doing this? How are you here in my head?" He was so dazed and content that he had honestly forgotten about the mention of the first mark altogether. Not that he would have any real clue what that was anyway. "Are you asleep too?"

I shrugged. "I could be," I said. "Or I could just be really focused. Now that I've given you the first mark - " I winced " - I have some level of a connection with you. Relatively strong, but with each mark, it gets stronger. The fourth mark means you're my human servant, which binds you to me so strongly, that if one of us were to die, so would the other." The words wouldn't stop, and yet I so desperately wanted them to. I didn't want to tell him this, not now. I didn't want to ruin this.

Teddy blinked, the sated muddle in his mind clearing some to comprehend what markus was saying. He noticed Markus wince and he had to ask, "You expected me to be mad, didn't you? Probably because you didn't ask me first; I don't even know when you must have done it." His words weren't angry, but rather an observation. A thought occurred to him as he looked at Markus. "Will I always have the first mark?"

"I did it one night, while we were erm... busy," I explained. And then the other question I hadn't want to answer came between his lips. Although, he wasn't mad thus far, so maybe he still wouldn't be.... "Yeah, you will," I said. "You'll always have it. Unless one of us... dies," I finished lamely. I was probably confusing him, but whatever.

Teddy looks thoughtful but doesn't say anything at first. He chews his lip and looks up at Markus, not really wanting to ask. But he really needed to know. "What happens if we stop seeing each other? Not that I want to, I swear I don't, but we just don't know what will happen later." Teddy felt bad talking like this, but realistically that hadn't known each other even close to long enough for him to be sure he would never lose whatever fascination he had with Markus. "I mean, what happens if I don't want you in my head anymore?"

Goddamnit. I knew I hadn't thought about this thoroughly enough! I didn't want to voice that, though, so instead, I tried to play it off all smooth-like, and probably failed. "Then we just won't let that happen, will we?" I said softly, trailing my hands lazily over his body.

Teddy smiled at that answer. Part of him, the thorough part, told him that just trying real hard wasn't fool proof. But he hadn't been listening to his smart side since he first set foot in the District, so why start now? "No, we won't." He answered, nuzzling against Markus' neck and planting a kiss there. "I'm glad you did this. I didn't want to leave, so this is pretty good compromise. Thanks."

I grinned and wrapped my arms tighter around Teddy. "Good," I said against his hair.
((WOWWWWW. Really bad writer's block.))

"I still get to come see you tomorrow, right? You're going to see so much of me you might get sick of me." Oddly, Teddy wasn't really afraid of that happening. This first mark thing... it sure sounded to him like Markus was in no rush to get out of spending time together. What was there to worry about?

Anita was walking down the street from her apartment to her near by office. It wasn't a big place, since she was working by herself at the moment. Just as she was about to get to the office doors, her cell phone rang. Taking it out of the holder on her hip, she flipped it open. "Animated, Inc., Anita Blake speaking." she said in her most professional tone of voice.
"Nita!" a girl said on the other end.
"Claire, I told you, call me when I'm home..."she said, trying hard not to sound exasperated.
"Oh, Nita! You need to get out and have some fun. Come with me to Guilty Pleasures tonight!" Claire responded.
"Claire, you know good and well that I have no interest in what the vampires do."
"Oh, come on. It's not like any of them are going to bite you are anything. Unless you ask reeeeeeeeeeeally nicely..." Claire said with a giggle. "I'll meet you at your office when you close up this evening. We can go have dinner, and then go to Guilty Pleasures!" She said excitedly and then hung up on Anita.
Anita sighed and rolled her eyes. She's known Claire since she moved to St. Louis a few years ago in college. The girl was always trying to get Anita to be more... loose. Which was definately not Anita's style. She put the cell phone away and unlocked the doors before stepping inside and flipping the lights on. With her luck it was going to be a long, boring day, followed by a long, irritating night...

I nuzzled into Teddy's hair, smiling. "I'll never get sick of you," I promised. "Whenever I know I'm to see you, I get the fabled butterflies in my stomach, as cliched as it sounds..." I kissed the top of his head and sighed, closing my eyes. And with that sigh came a legendary scent. My eyes opened. I was no longer in bed with Teddy. I was in my room at Danse Macabre. My window open, facing Guilty Pleasures, I could smell her. Anita Blake was here.

Teddy slept peacefully after that, his dreams of a much more surreal nature. Markus may not have really been there any more, but it was easy enough to dream of him without any extra help. He would likely stay that way until morning.

It took me several moments for me to realize it was morning - or at least mid-day. It took me a while longer to realize that Blake's scent was still a distance away. But it was recognizable enough in the dead of day. When there was hardly any obstruction from the fabled Animators, Inc., to the District. It wasn't hard to miss that scent.

Teddy woke late; almost too late to get himself to work. His mother had already gone; for that he was kind of grateful. She was the one that was most likely to wonder about Teddy actually doing laundry. More specifically washing his bed covers; he'd woken to find them sticky and gross. Once the washing machine was filled, Teddy took a quick shower before starting it. Then the rush was really on as he threw himself into clean clothing and tore downstairs.
When he whipped by the kitchen, his father called out to him. "Here, son. You didn't look ready to wake up any time soon, so I figured you'd try skipping breakfast." Teddy grinned at his father. He really did look kind of silly standing there in his wife's apron holding in one hand a fried egg between two slices of toast in a sandwich bag. In the other hand was a lunch box that had somehow stuck with Teddy since he was in Elementary school. The paint had chipped up a bit, but the Transformers were still embarrassingly easy to make out. Teddy took it anyway and the egg sandwich.
"Thanks dad. Please take off that apron; it's weird. I really gotta go, but I left some stuff in the washer." Teddy had dashed halfway out the door by the time his father nodded and agreed to put the wash in the dryer. There was still time, Teddy thought as he got in his car. He'd be cutting it close, but he shouldn't be late. ---
By the time afternoon rolled by, Teddy was more than ready to go home. His eyes were tired, his fingers were tired and his brain was numb from filling in field after field of data. It wasn't a difficult job, just a very, very boring one. It certainly helped keep his mind off of Markus for a while; every time his attention drifted too far he would mistype something and have to go back. Just a few more hours. Then he could go home and just vegetate for a while. ((Just trying to catch Teddy up to mid-day since I left him at last night.))

So far, it was boring. Noon was here and not a single call as of yet. Anita got up, wondering how she was going to make rent if she couldn't keep the business going. Maybe she shouldn't have come back from that vacation after all. What was she going to do if she ran into /him/ again?
She stood up, shaking her head. "Lunch. If I eat, I will fell better and get my mind off of things." she walked out the door, locking it securely behind her, before wandering around. So many things have changed, and so many things have stayed the same, she thought, as she wandered aimlessly during her lunch hour; before she realized it, she was on the edge of the Riverfront.
