"Good to hear. Get us to Fox Hole 2 ASAP."

He closed the rear hatch after Winter jumped aboard and walked over to the Cockpit. He sat down at the COM officers station and accessed the COMFREQ for Voi.

"They're not Covenant, repeat not Covenant!"
"It's getting through!"
"Then what the hell are they?"
"Help me! Oh god help me!"
"I don't know sir!"
"Oh god! Oh God! Oh God!"
"The door's not gonna hold!"
"Jesus one's on Willis!"
"God Dammit Fire your weapon!"
"The LT's down!"
"FRAG OUT!"
"MEDIC!"
"We need backup!"
"Request close air support!"
"Holy s**t Watch out!"
"Where?"
"I'm outta ammo!"
"EVERYWHERE!"
"Find help! Get help!"
"OH JESUS GET IT OFF!"
"Shoot it! Shoot it now!"
"OH GOD their skin... Oh god... It's... oh god!"
"Say again, we need reinforcements!"
"What is it?"
"Get down!"
"Sir they've broken through!"
"Command, we're not gonna last!"
"Any sign of Sierra 117?"
"It's a nightmare!"
"No sir!"
"Jesus what do we do?"
"OH NO, OH GOD! RUN!"
"We gotta get outta he..."

With disgust and horror he put the headset back in its place and killed his connection to the COMFREQ and turned around, placing his head in his hands. Something was cutting through the Marines stationed at Voi, And he had a sample of it in his pocket. He was certain of it. They needed to get to Fox Hole 2 and fast.

[James A. Mitchell]

James sat secured in a seat on the pelican with the others. He was tired, he hadn't got any rest in days now. James had been thinking aobut his father, his friends, and his old CO, and how they reacted to each situation. James had decided to adopt they're philsophy, no-nonsense. James though wasn't nervous anymore, the word medic had burrowed into his skull like a bullet to the head at point blank range. He had no little to no medical training and was worried he would have to try and a patch someone up. James thought it was a mistake for CWO Karr to even think about assigning him as a Medic. That was not his MOS and he hated anything medical, his grandparents on Troy always wanted him to be a doctor, he resented them for that fact. James checked over his MA5C ICWS to try and calm himself down, he had gotten nervous at the very thought of having anything to do with medicine.

Anthony listened to the chaos through the COMset. "Sir... I've seen what they are talking about I think..." He sounded almost shy, as if he shouldnt be telling him, or listining. "I;ll give you deatails if you'd like..."

He would have spat in disgust if he could at the sounds that came over his COM. Winter listened to it all bitterly, it wasn't just his record that showed his hatred for the green beasts it was his experience. They were gone weren't they? The flood, they'd been smitten? Hell once Winter had finished with the bastards he thought they were gone! But they came back..

"s**t Major." He pronounced with disgust, "those ******** are obliterated from earth.. I hope. Because they are one hell of an enemy." That was for sure he knew. From the co-pilots seat he starred out its window into the rolling jungle bellow. This was Africa. This was Earth.

The flood had touched it.

To God he hoped they were gone.

The guy wasn't your godly man, the Catholic church wasn't much as a kid. The boy didn't remember much of the services. It was the Anglican church in fact, a place were even the poorest of the poor could find shelter on Sundays. Maybe it was God, maybe it was the nuns or monks, even the paster and those around them but that place got him through a few more day. The few more days to get into the marines. Maybe God existed. Maybe he blessed him with the assault rifle. Maybe he condoned the self-defense of his people. Who knew, he didn't.

"Let us just wish the flood are gone."

[James A. Mitchell]

James had shut his COM off, he didn't need the distraction at the moment. He was getting his life sorted out. James clutched his father's dogtags in his hand. James put the dogtags back into his service pack and took a cigarette off of the marine next to him. James lite it aganist the hot pipe next to him and took a drag off of the cigarette. He hated the Covenant, he hated them for finding Earth, for burning Troy, for killing his friends, his family, and most of all for bringing the flood here to the mother of every human, Earth.

James had reflected on a lot the last couple hours and it was noticable. It was unusally quite without James laughing and cracking bad jokes all the time. Better get used to it, because this is how its going to be. James thought to himself and took another drag. He was tired and it showed on his face. James checked over his MA5C again and sighed the cigarette feel out of his mouth and on to the floor. "Damn." James muttered and stamped it out.

The Pelican landed, the pressure from its landing gears spat out onto the deck. "Ok boys. Off we go."

[James Mitchell]

James hoped off the Pelican, his helmet was straped to his service pack and he was was wearing a drab-green service cap. James' service pack rattled as he walked forward his right arm was shepd like an L with his MA5C pointed up to the sky. James sighed and walked straight forward and walked to his Fireteam, Delta. James acknowledged the other two members of Fireteam Delta. "I want a weapons check on the double marines!" James shouted at the two marines that made up the fireteam. "Green." The mairnes sounded off in unison.

Winter moved aft, clicking off his in flight mike and exchanging it for his helmet, it felt a lot better in it. Even with the annoying prickle of unshaved face inside of the.. Poorly air conditioned mask. Yet the HUD was always a comfort, streaming information within his head and Shelly not talking to him all weird like. Connected to his eustachian tube, or something like that. It felt.. So strange. Like an echo within your head. It disturbed him.

Exiting the pelican he looked over his fellow soldiers, all alive. All fine. Also in the engagement moments ago the humans had shown the enemy that they were not going down easily. A downed pelican becoming a funeral explosion obliterating enemy forces and as they marched to the evac zone another met them. Hopefully it gave down a message, "humanity ain't going down so easily."

They weren't going down.

Lipton stepped off the D77H-TCI drop ship and heaved a sigh. It seemed that yet again he had been screwed by his lack of knowledge. Apparently everyone else knew what the ******** was killing off the Marines stationed in Voi, but he hadn't the faintest. Typical. The air was hot and humid, as it had been for the last few days.

He waited around the rear of the Pelican for CWO Karr to disembark. He wanted to talk to man. Primarily to find out just how much he didn't know, and to find out where the hell the brass was holed up. In truth, Lipton hated the oak leaves on his collar. Sure they looked great and meant he had a higher level of pay, but he was stuck in some forward OP or CP, rarely in the field with the men. His promotion had essentially been to help ease the Col.'s load with the Batt. only when he had been killed just before Belfast, Lipton had been reassigned to F Company, and things went FUBAR during the Belfast operation. After that he was reunited with E Company, and was apparently returned to his unit. While technically he was doing a Captain's job leading the men from the field, he wasn't complaining. Then again, most of his men were still in Voi. Or were in Voi. Sure a handfull had opted to leave and go to Fox Hole 2 with him, a number of them had died in ROMEO 8's crash. He shook his head and leaned against the aircrafts hull, wishing to every god he knew of for an end to this conflict.

Anthony disembarked, and saluted the Major. "Sir, CWO Karr reporting. Is there something the matter sir?" he asked, in reference to his face.

((For some reason I have the "Normandy" theme from Mass Effect playing in my head when I think of Fox Hole 2. Weird.))

Lipton leaned forward slightly and stood back on his feet rather than leaning against the side of the bird. He smiled, and it was as though his face warmed up. Hell, for having survived a pretty bad crash, he looked fine! He extended a hand to the CWO and looked him square in the eye.
"I'd like to shake the hand of the man who decided to come pick me up. For once it seems that someone gives a s**t. Thank you."

After the handshake he took out the baggie of vomit brown goop. It hadn't gotten any bigger, which he supposed was a good thing.
"Karr, I obviously missed the memo about this stuff," he motioned to the baggie, "what is this? For that matter, what is happening in Voi?"

He checked his soldiers himself. Each one a simple look across their faces, no wounded, no dead. A grin spread across his face as how things went. They went well and the simple mission had stayed on plan and that satisfied him. Missions often went array but when they didn't you had a reason to be happy.

Satisfied and after several pats and handshakes of thanks he turned on his heels marching slowly back to the pelican, a word to say? Not really, curiosity. Shotgun strapped upon his hand he checked the loaded shell, he hadn't fired a round.. Perhaps that was a good thing.

"Major sir." Voi was the first word he heard and last.

"Sir, what you probably have there is either a piece of bad dogshit... or something of Flood Origin. From what I saw, the flood take these little ******** and stab em on your back and transform you into a mutant sonofabitch. Thats when our Marines blow the hell out of them." Karr gave a chuckle.

"But seriously sir, What you have on that Micro processor is of no help for right now. But we can give it to the Commander all the same. Sir, I'm going to get the briefing room ready sir." He saluted and went indoors.

"If you need me, ask me a question at the briefing!" he called behind him.

Well, that had been... educating to a degree. Not as much as he would have hoped for, but it was a start. Lipton nodded to the Marine who walked by and mentioned his rank. He sighed and walked toward the main cluster of bunkers. He watched a group of engineers service an M12 LRV. He sighed and headed toward the Ops center, which was usually located in or near the center of the base.
