"I'd say that it has been already," Elnara replied with something between a smile and a frown. "I mean, it was a surprise for everyone else that we came at all, or that you were with me, or that I have seven children already ... and for my part ... to be honest, I expected pretty much all of my brothers to react the way Ruel did. Not very ... cheery of me, I know, but that was what it seemed like when I left."
She let her fingers brush against the top of the hedges as they walked further into the garden, which had flowers of every sort imaginable growing on both sides of the winding path. A tiny brook trickled alongside the path as well, preventing silence but keeping it peaceful and relaxing.
"I think the biggest shock was Elrohir," Elnara added quietly.

Lore leaned closer to Elnara smiling gently, "It's love," he murmured softly remembering Elrohir's own love, "It does funny things, if what he alluded to, to Lin means anything."
Lots of hugs indeed, it was like him getting over his need for space with Elnara.

Elnara giggled and blushed softly, but slipped one arm around Lore's waist and put her head on his shoulder. For a few moments she just allowed herself to stay like that, both comfortable and blissful; but she couldn't help but make a comment as well.
"Apparently it doesn't work with everyone," she murmured softly, sadly. "I'm assured that Ruel loves Luthien powerfully ... that he would do anything for her ... but even that isn't enough for him to ..."
She trailed off and sighed. There were so many ways she could have finished that sentence, but she let it hang.
Not enough for him to grow up, for instance, as though she were still older than he.
Not enough for him to have a heart.
Not enough for him to be decent, or at least pretend at it.
Not enough to make him stop being so prejudiced ... so hateful ...

"True..." Lore murmured, "You do need to want to change as well."
He let go of her hand to wrap his arm around her shoulder. Lore knew that was tough on her, she had expected it, but it did not make the problem any easier to bare.
"But you have the support of most of your family," he replied quietly, "And that you have close. There is still family here."

"It makes no difference," Elnara replied quietly, her face impassive. "Even if they all did want me back, if they all begged, I would never return here to live."
She shook her head slowly. "I wouldn't be able to stand it here anymore, not for a long period of time. After living in Gaia, everything's so ... excessive here. I mean, I'm glad that I can visit with the people that I do miss, but ... I could never return to stay."

"But if you didn't have their support even visiting would be difficult," Lore pointed out calmly.
Though he would have to agree as he looked around, the gardens he didn't mind, but knowing the castle was looming behind them was a bit unnerving. Which was funny because some would say the thing about the buildings back in Gaia, but they were nothing like the castles here and always housed more people and more families.

"Even with the support of most of my family," Elnara murmured quietly, "it's still difficult, even just to visit. The thing is ..."
She hesitated for a moment and turned her eyes to look at the stars overhead.
"At first I was worried just for myself, but now ... I don't know whether or not I have to worry about Celebor as well," she said slowly. "I ... always knew he was defensive of me, but I never thought ... never imagined ... that he would go so far as to actually hit someone ... and Ruel of all people ... is not forgiving ..."

Lore hugged Elnara, "Actually... that's why I had been wondering if Celebor would sit with us. I wasn't expecting physical blows, but your son is very... passionate," he smiled a bit kissing Elnara on the forehead.
He couldn't blame Celebor, the poor boy had seen her mother upset before, the young elf probably wanted to spare her more grief.
"Your brother may not be forgiving, but there isn't anything he can do, lest he anger those closest to him."

Elnara felt a rush of warmth not caused by the desert rush through her, and she smiled and put her head against Lore's chest and hugged him back, feeling the happiest she had felt since their arrival that afternoon.
"I think he's already managed it," she murmured softly in reply. "I have to admit, I don't know Lúthien that well ... but ... she strikes me as too peaceful to get that angry that easily ..."
Or perhaps she did, and Elnara just didn't know it. Daeron, however, was ... well, not as she had expected (especially since she hadn't had any idea how much time had passed), but rather the way she had imagined he might be.

"Well.. I don't think she would get physically angry," Lore murmured, "I agree with you at that, she seems very peaceful, though I think she was certainly displeased... and Ruel I'm sure won't go out of his way to bother Celebor, because it will make things worse. Though it's a bit sad, Celebor was interested in what Ruel does."

"I'm not surprised at that," Elnara remarked. "He's always been interested in weapons, he's been begging me for months now to teach him swordsmanship. Ruel forges weapons for a living - and I have to admit, he's turned out some of the finest I've ever seen. Still ..."
She trailed off. She had no idea when Celebor was going to grow again, but she did know that he was getting to the age where he should be thinking of a life's vocation. If he liked the forge so much, she might have suggested he find out a bit more about it, as she would suggest for anything else that he liked. On the other hand, if he and Ruel weren't going to be able to get along ... it didn't seem as though that would be a good idea.

"But still, to keep fights from happening Celebor shouldn't be spending time with Ruel," Lore murmured, "It'll only lead to more fights."
Which was why he had tried to convince Celebor that it was a bad idea.
"Hopefully Celebor will find something or someone else to catch his interest," Lore murmured thoughtfully.

"Perhaps," Elnara agreed with a sigh. "Hopefully."
She grew silent, thoughtful, for several long moments; then suddenly she laughed and sighed.
"All of these years," she murmured, "I thought I'd never have any children at all. And now look at me ... worrying about my eldest - of seven, no less - when he's less than a year old." She laughed again. The irony of it all!

"Wait till they all look like adults, and are pretty much adults," Lore murmured, "Then it'll get mind boggling."
Since he knew adults for their race weren't that old, it was a large different between age and physical.

"It will," Elnara laughed. "Ah well ... perhaps it is a bit early to be thinking of things like that for Celebor. After all, I have no idea when he'll be growing, it could be a while for all I know."
She sighed again, then smiled up at Lore. "So. City tomorrow?"
