they walked for several blocks, then Katia turned left sharply. she checked her watch and then continued faster, almost jogging. "we have to hurry," she said in a whisper, the street was empty, "before the weirdos come out."

"that's not necessary unless they come too close," Katia said looking around "hurry now!" she started running at full speed, which was pretty fast. she rounded a corner and continued running.

"i've lived here most of my life," Katia said, not even panting. she came to a sudden stop, not even slowing down at all first. she veered down a dark alley and emerged into another street. the lights in the stores were out and the windows were boarded up. "here we are," she said, "the worst part of town. dangerous, creepy, and overall just bad."

Katia sighed, then held her hand out. she then checked her shoes the make sure the steel soles were still good and that the little blades at the toe of each boot were not dull.
