Evan reached up and out to gently smooth Devi's hair as Xi carried her past. Then he busied himself in throwing himself in front of Harper's barrelling ball and bringing it to a halt. Within seconds, he had the door open and was reaching in to tickle the child. "No one needs to toughen anyone up," he added calmly. "They're just little kids and we're not looking to put them into therapy."

Shade stayed silently, not bothered by the icy look one bit. He had been hated by many more men than this, after all. But not one of the kids had been hurt, and the punk boy and ram girl seemed to have enjoyed themselves.
And hell, if he got fired he could start sleeping in again.
"Father," Antony said, his voice low. "You were not hired to deal with the babies."
"Ah, right," Shade said with a cheerfully sheepish look. "Forgot about that."

Harper, glaring at the man who had so bravely decided to halt his fun, refused the tickling. Instead he swatted at the man looking most disapproving. "You stupid," he informed with a slight nod. "Eliottttt, make go away!" He demanded, pointing at Evan. He gave a look at Irelia that only said he would get her later, if nothing else!
Eliot, meanwhile, had taken to pouting much the same way Harper was. He rolled his eyes at all the melodrama taking place in the adults, "Please," He said to Evan, shaking his head, "Girls gonna grow up and and wonder why captian hero isn't coming to save her every time she breaks a nail. Spoilsport. Hey, can I take one of those balls home? I'll pay you a hundred bucks for one." Eliot asked of anyone in charge, looking clever. He walked toward Harper and gave Evan another look that said to move away so he could get the kid.

Shade shrugged. "Sorry, they're school property. Not something I can sell. You might try Ebay, though." He turned and looked at Antony. "So where's the rest of the class, or are you it? If you are, gimme a hand moving these balls back into storage, would you?"
Antony sighed. His father was SO irresponsible.

Devakanya did not resist the change of grown-ups in the slightest. The teacher wasn't doing a thing to stop the crazy and the screamer, and if the other men could take her out of this wild place, she would go most happily. She went from Shade to Antony to Xi, most familiar with the last and clutched to his shirt like her life depended on it. She sniffled, tears starting to dry. She was safe now. Finally.
