Ghost turned only his eyes toward the mare, continuing to silently cry. He unconsiously nuzzled her face, in need of some form of comfort. He dropped his head again and collected himself. "Not really..." he admitted, his voice shakey. He sighed and began. "About 10 years ago, my mother was taken captive by humans. She escaped them, and they pursued her, me close behind, being only a yearling. One of their dogs ended up catching me around my back leg, bringing me down. My mom slid to a halt and drove her forefeet into the dog's side, instantly killing it. Apparently, it one of their best dogs, 'irreplacable' as I heard them call it. The last thing I remeber was we were running again and I heard a gun shot, and I saw my mother trip and she went down beside me. I stopped and trotted to her side, where I found blood pouring out of her. She told me to run and I did. I heard another shot, a high-pitched sqeal of pain, and then...just silence. I turned to see the humans around my near dead mother's body. I saw them lower a gun to her head, then..." he couldn't go on. Fresh tears exploded from his eyes and he clenched his teeth together. His sides heaved as he fought them.

Kipcha let him nuzzel her and tell his story uninturrepted. When he stopped she nuzzled him and wrapped her own head around his withers, the effect of a hug. "I'm sure she's proud of you. She raised a good stallion." She spoke gently and made no attempt to quiet him, just let him work it all out of his system.

Ghost coudn't fight them, so he just cried more. At Kipch'a comment, he turned his head in the slightest and smiled weakly. "T-Thanks" he said quietly. He eventually relaxed and began breathing normally again. He sighed and straightened up a bit. "Thanks, Kipcha. Even stallions have their moments..." he nudged her. "Well, I think it's time for you to finally get some sleep." He glanced at Freebird and Casper, who were both sleeping.

Kipcha didn't press him further, she had learned to comfort then let it lie untill it was brought up again. "I shall but make sure to get some yourself. I can watch just wake me up." She nuzzled him then side stepped away, but no more than a few paces.

Ghost nodded slightly. "Alright, but go to sleep." There was some finality in his voice. He returned his attention to his surroundings, keeping his ears open for any sound that was unfamiliar to him. He silently watched the mares and the colt, glad to finally have some good company. He snorted and shook his head, his mane flopping in all directions. He then looked up and stood watching the stars for a while.

Kipcha nodded to him and settled down. Closeing her eyes she quickly drifted off to sleep, while her ears swiveled occasionly at night sounds. She lowered her head and cocked a hind leg, completely asleep.

Ghost was content to stand quietly, his ears swiveling at any odd sounds. He jumped once at the shrill screech of a dying animal a far ways off. 'Hmm...the lioness probably caught something. Well, better that creature, than one of the mares or the colt.' he thought to himself. He sighed and shook his head. A few hours past and he got a bit tired, but, seeing as she was comfortably sleeping, he was not going to wake Kipcha. He looked over at Freebird and Casper, lying peacefully on the ground, Casper nuzzled against his dam. He smiled affectionately at the sight, then lifted his head to the sky as a nice wind blew through, sending his mane whipping in one direction. He closed his eyes and breathed in deeply.

*Freebird woke silently and calmly but a little alarmed, she looked about and saw the soft, and slightly illuminated, organic slivers of light that reflected gently off of their still bodies. Though sleep got the best of her, she continued to dream of ominous things.*

Ghost looked down at Freebird. He nudged her lightly. "Are you okay? You seemed a bit alarmed. Was it just a dream?" he asked her quietly so as not to awaken Casper or Kipcha. He saw Casper's leg twitch a bit. Ghost wondered if he was dreaming about running and chuckled a bit to himself.

Kipcha's ears flickered towards Ghost, Casper and Freebird. She remained asleep with her head down, but the words faintly registired in the back of her undreaming mind.

*Freebird Looked into the darkness, though she saw nothing but the voice she heard*
I'm fine..Can't you sleep? It's awfully late...I imagine the sun will rise in only a few hours.

Sensing she couldn't see him, Ghost lowered his muzzle to her face to let her know where he was. "Alright, just checking. And don't worry about me, I'm fine. You go back to sleep now." He lifted his head again and returned to his place. He glanced down at the small herd of mares in the valley, sleeping peacefully, with only the lead mare awake for the herd'e protection. He then lifted his eyes to the horizon and watched the red sun slowly rise over the mountainside as the wind whipped his mane and forelock around.

Kipcha slept straight through the talk and only awoke to the first light of day. Lifting her head and shook herself from nose to tail and looked toward Ghost. Going to his side she looked down on her own herd. "You didn't sleep. You should have woke me." The sun touched her coat with red-gold.

Ghost tuned his head toward Kipcha and nuzzled her neck before returning his eyes to the constantly rising sun. Hearing Kipcha's complaint, he merely chuckled. "Did you honestly expect me to wake you? I can do without sleep. I'm perfectly fine, you needn't impose in the watch, I've got that covered. Ill catch some sleep later, alright?" He looked down and gazed at the herd in the valley. "Did you come from that herd? or have you been on your own as well?" he asked her.

Kipcha snorted and gently nipped Ghost. "No but I thought I would still try." She looked sadly down at the herd, "Yes and no. I wandered off a few days ago and none have seen fit to watch or wait for me to return." Her gaze showed more than sadness, it showed shame and a hint of anger. Swishing her tail she looked behind her at Freebird and Casper then back to the herd.
