He saw the wing coming this time and managed to keep himself calm as it picked up his braid again. He could deal with that since he'd seen it coming. IT was an interesting feeling to have someone playing with his mane and he'd always liked it for some reason. Maybe because it was calming.

"Ah .... i think the two legger things it will keep it out of my eyes." He couldn't always understand what she said but sometimes you could just tell.

Ah, so Wadi had a thoughtful two-legger around...Safi had always liked the two-legger he'd grown up with; she was a long-suffering sort, dealing with a large and largely nomadic herd of unruly Soquilis with a bright smile. At least, he was PRETTY sure it was a bright smile...

"They're nice things, two-leggers. Too bad they can't talk in an understandable fashion, because they might be some neat conversation partners." As he spoke, Safi ran his feathers up along the braid, then back down, threading through the surrounding hair as well. Though he didn't have nerves in his wingtips, he could still enjoy the feeling of the moving along his feathers.

"You know, the braids really suit you; they compliment your hair color really well, and besides the functionaity they add a 'verve', you know?"

"If you try hard'nough they're understandable." Sometimes when the two that lived near his family argued he didn't understand it but they made up well enough. At the end of the night they shared the same home and the same meals. It must have been nice to have someone like that.

"Verve?" He had no idea what that meant so he didn't know how to take what the other stallion was saying. "They're nice most of tha time, cept when ir rains. Then they get heavy."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 11:01 pm

"Well, they ARE at least a bit readable. I mean, you can kinda tell what they're feeling by the way their mumbles sound, and they even make facial expressions that are halfway readable. Maybe I just never spent enough time with one..."

Tilting his head to one side in an absent fashion, Safi mulled over the idea, his wing still stroking Wadi's mane. He'd been raised by a two-legger, along with Indawo, but he'd always been more involved with his friends as a foal, and as an adult, he'd always been on the move.

Did it make the two legger lonely, having so many Soquili about only to leave again? She had no one else of her kind around, did that ever get frustrating? Trying to speak to them, but not being able to understand...

Shaking off the idea, he looked back at Wadi, a grin on his face at the question. "Verve! Spice! That little something that makes things different...and I can sympathize. You wouldn't BELIEVE how heavy wings get when they're wet." To say that they weighed him down would be putting it mildly. "Not to mention it takes forever to dry them out again."

"The two that live where my family does are easy to read. They've even helped name some of us. Dah got Uncle Sedi's name from the two leggers and Mama's name." Mama and Dah trusted them and if Mama trusted someone that was telling. "They seem to like having us around even if we can't communicate completely"

So having braids in his hair gave him spice? That seemed a little odd but if it was something you didn't see often then he guessed that it could be taken that way.

He laughed slightly at the thought of Safi's wings wet. He'd seen soaked birds and they always looked annoyed about it unless they were waterproof. "I can imagine that they'd be horrible when wet."

"You know, it kinda makes you wonder...if Soquili aren't to two leggers what familiars are to us. You know, companions after a sort?" It was an interesting idea, really; they WERE certainly closely bonded species, but he'd never really considered them that much previously. Fascinating, the things you could thing about when provoked...

As Wadi laughed, Safi found himself grinning all over again; he was so SERIOUS at times, but when he smiled, it was like his face just lit up...no, not just his face, his whole BEING.

As he became aware of his silly grin, Safi found himself chuckling as well at his own sillyness. He was so completely and utterly hopeless, fancying a stallion he'd met such a short time before! If one of his kids were to tell him THEY were getting silly so soon...

Well, he'd know what they were talking about.

Still, he sighed a bit to himself, realizing that he was likely treading a dangerous line with Wadi. The other stallion likely had no idea his companion was more into stallions than anything...

Or did he? He WAS being awfully calm about having his mane played with, but that could mean ANYTHING. Damn worries, ruining everything. He hated being sensible.

Or was he really that sensible. "Well, it depends on the circumstances; they're good for swimming in a pinch, but in general, wet feathers are terrible." However, Safi's tone was a bit distracted as his mind wandered over his own thoughts; even though he accepted who he was, that didn't make dealing with those that didn't any easier!

"I think that happens. Dah says that the herd he came from was taken care of by two leggers. Most of them had two legged friends that they hunted with and helped. Dah got sent here cause the male two legger's father sent him as a present."

He'd heard the story a few times but had never really thought anything about it. The two legger treated all of them as if they were equals to him so he'd never worried that they were anything less. "I like having the two leggers around and they seem to like us so it's a good idea that they can be."

"You'd think the Spirits would have seen to it that the feathers were water resistant." That was too much to ask for apparently. You could get a Soquili into the air but you couldn't keep them dry in a rainstorm.

He noticed the other's distracted state and tilted his head. "I'm not boring you am I?"

A Soquili being sent as a present? That was a new one, he'd never thought of that idea. And how had Wadi's father found out he was BEING a present, and what had he felt about leaving what he knew? It all sounded very surreal...

"Yeah, well, I guess the spirits had something else on their mind the day they designed wind wings. At least they work, even if they do get soggy." Shaking his head, Safi eyed the one wing that wasn't tangled in Wadi's mane, shaking out the feathers with an amused snort that stopped as he heard Wadi's question.

"Boring me? Wadi, hardly; you're proving to be far more...intriguing...than you could possibly realize." With a rueful smile, Safi withdrew his feathers from Wadi's mane, but he was unable to resist the desire to gently run those selfsame feathers along Wadi's jaw before pulling back completely. He was so cute, Wadi...Safi just wanted to tickle him until he burst into laughter he couldn't stop even if he tried!

He shook his head, settling his mane out, now that there weren't someone else's feathers tangled in it. "I suppose that the trade off of being able to fly is enough to out weight the annoyance of them being heavy when soggy?" Aside from the slight danger in the move if you laid down then the weight wouldn't be so bad. Or at least he thought so.

"You looked distracted. I thought my rambling might have been uninteresting." He couldn't be that interesting since he hadn't done much in his life. He'd just hung around his family and been scared.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2007 11:58 pm

Shrugging his shoulders, Safi weighed out the idea of being stuck on the ground with heavy wings versus flying high above the earth, spinning and spiralling in near weightlessness...and he did love to fly. "I suppose it is a trade-off of sorts; the benefit of flight versus the hassle of wet wings seem fair enough trade. And it DOES take time for them to get weighed down..."

Distracted, indeed. Still wearing his rueful smile, Safi shook his head at Wadi. "A strange preoccupation, actually, but that's hardly anything new; I assure you, this conversation has all been interesting. It's actually given me a lot to think about."

Then, almost as if it was out of nowhere, Safi asked rather quickly, "Wadi, are you seeing anyone?"

"It seems like it would be fun to fly. My family's known for being able to run fast and all my Uncles love it. If they had the ability to fly they'd probably never leave the air." He'd gotten good at running from running from things but he knew that he didn't appreciate it the same way they did.

He was glad that he hadn't been boring the other stallion and was slightly startled by his question. He had a feeling that Safi wasn't talking about it in the sense of sight.

"No .... i'd be far to nervous to do anything like that" Mares usually wanted someone to protect them or someone who could be their equal. They didn't want someone they had to protect.

Running. Automatically, Safi looked down at his legs, knowing full well that if they could makes faces, they'd be blowing raspberries at him. He was a HORRIBLE runner, slower than a snail and easily outpaced by foals. It didn't help that his own daughter had been a roadrunner ever since she learned to walk; it was as though his speed in the air was directly countered by his inability to hasten any other way. Oh well, you take what you can get.

"Well, running is good for some, flying for some, probably even swimming for some!" This with a glance sideways at the stream that still danced along merrily beside them. "It's good that we all have things we can do to get along...but probably just as good that they're different, or we'd all be crashing into each other!"

Now he was just being silly, and for no good reason. Focus, Safi, you ridiculous stallion!

Wadi's remark caught him off guard, though, or at least the sidebar did. It wasn't a surprise or anything, but it wasn't exactly what he meant. "Well...what if someone else were to ask YOU, what about then?" Damn, but this was awekward. How did the newly grown ever manage to ask others out with such ease?

He actually snorted slightly trying to keep back a laugh as he thought about Soquili crashing into each other. That would be very painful but it was amusing none the less. "If we didn't all have different ways of getting around we'd probably be nose deep in each other." After all with how big his family was there and knowing that there were more the plains could be covered in others.

"Why would anyone ask me?" He shook his head slightly and looked at Safi. He couldn't even fathom anyone bothering with him other than his family. They'd get fed up once he started jumping at things every time they were together.

PostPosted: Tue Jul 17, 2007 12:24 am

The idea of Soquili being caught in a traffic jam was rather amusing, but at the moment Safi decided that it was best to just focus on the one topic; he couldn't believe he was being so silly, but perhaps it was just a lack of focus. He'd have to work on that.

"Well, they might ask you because they thought you were cute, and interesting, and fun to talk to, and endearing in a jumpy sort of way, and...I dunno, they just liked you and maybe wanted to see about getting to know you a bit better." Turning away as he spoke, Safi hoped that Wadi hadn't noticed the blush he KNEW was spreading across his pale face; this was about as juvenille as one could get, come ON!

"I've only met two others beside my family .... Memory and you." He shook his head again. "Don't get out enough to meet enough people for someone to find me interesting. You probably know people who are more interesting than i am."

He poked at the dirt with one hoof lightly. "I'm probably easy to forget too. So i'd probably get scared and run off before anyone could talk to me that much and they wouldn't remember to find me again later." He laughed slightly. "I'm .... i'm surprised i've talked to you this long."
