MONCHiKi i like liberals...i understand the conceptual importance of pride in some asian cultures, but i don't like it when it gets in the way of good international relations. they're bad when it comes to international relations...they've got the worst guy as foreign minister

Korean_turtle87 hollywood_addict Hey, could someone fill me in? What's going on between Korea and Japan? I am adopted from Korea to America, but studying abroad in Japan in about a year. Should I expect any of this to carry over for me? well, Japan annexed Korea, treated us like crap, raped, killed, and did other bad things to us. stole stuff from us like some big tablet, tried to eliminate our culture, and then they got nuked. now, Korea and Japan hate each other. Japan i don't know why they hate us, but Korea still hasen't forgiven Japan. But then again, Japan hasn't repented like Germany. If you go to Japan, u'll get treated badly, maybe. They don't like anyone who's Jpn. i heard about a a kid who was mistreated in school for being 3/4 jpn. Umm... Korea and Japan don't really hate each other. Maybe there's this thing between them about that island, but I think we have forgiven Japan about what happened in the past. If the issue about the island never happened, I'd say there's peace between the two countries.

Ok, but that doesn't mean that Korea and Japan hate each other. When two countries hate each other I'd say it's like North and South Korea.

Sorry, I am a new East Asian Studies major. I haven't done courses on this yet, but what happened between the north and south? Is it like the battle I have learned barely about with Vietnam (North and South) battling for nationalism and/or communism? RUROUNI 91 Ok, but that doesn't mean that Korea and Japan hate each other. When two countries hate each other I'd say it's like North and South Korea.

I am getting the idea that the Japan and Korea tensions come from those greatly impresed upon by history?
If this is true, then does history really control us that much that we cannot forgive? Aren't most Japanese who did what they did to Koreans dead by now, or was it not that long ago? I have not tracked the history well at all, because I just became interested in researching some of my heritage. If Korea is also as Buddhist as China and Japan are, doesn't Buddhism, or at least Zen Buddhism teach that one should not limit one's self, but should reach out to give one's self freedom by not limiting one's self, for example, to holding grudges? I don't know if any one else has read Le Ly Hayslip, since she is Vietnamese, but her book, "When Heaven and Earth Changed Places" discusses how a grudge against the Americans, Viet Cong, etc., limited what her life could be and involve (simply dedicating one's whole life to avenging, etc etc). When she let go of grudges and forgave, it allowed her to move on and do what she wanted with her life. She could promote change and peace, and take care of her kids and improve herself. Personally, I found the message beautiful after overcoming harassment and racism in my lifetime. I am still working on making peace with my past, and I hope one day to become strong enough to work for the future while keeping the past as a guideline to deviate from when necessary.

And buddhism is only the official religion. but only like 1/4 of the country is "buddhist"

Alright, I'll just say one thing. Anti-Korean wave. That was the title of the manga that Japan had released not long ago and still are. They talk about what the koreans say and tell their popular media that they are lies. Personally, This doesn't suit my taste of peace. I'm not talking about the whole japanese population here, I'm directly attacking people who published and agree with the publishers of this book. I'm not about to go hand in hand with people who claim that my country's a liar. [Note: I'm also refering to you "********" <- That happens to be the Screenname of a japanese supremesist on youtube. He disses Chinese as well as Koreans, saying that japan did a favor of raping the two countries by spreading their superior seeds... That threw me off. Sound like Hitler, no?]

Oh my gosh...I never knew any of this before...I am 100% Korean but I was born in America and am not familiar with much of anything about South Korea's history. I do know that South and North Korea are like, enemies, but I've never heard about any hate at all between South Korea and Japan. It kind of makes me...Really sad...
