"You're probably right." Chin wasn't exactly convinced, but she'd never heard of the author before. If it was like, Tolkien or that guy Crow liked, sure...alarms hadn't starting ringing when she ripped the pages out. That was good. Maybe Gray -was- right. A signature didn't mean it was a very rare and expensive book, not at all.

She kept up the reassuring babble in her head for the next book, a thick, leatherbound tome with gilded writing on the cover. She carefully eased out the last page before shutting it. Dust whooshed out. Chin chose to ignore it.

"Got 'em! Now what?"

They weren't going to be disappointed. Sabriel rocked back as the reindeer baby moved closer, ears on full alert. That 'buh' had sounded suspiciously like a 'baa'...

Well, he thought better of her than that. Leaning back in, he wrapped one arm around Gulli's leg to keep his balance while reaching in with the other, going for one of those criminally fuzzy ears of Odnako's. He obviously hadn't learned the first time around.

"Well, we're... here, I think, place full of books. Library, bibliotheque, book store, what have you. And there's rooms all round. And some stairs. Except maybe not in that order." So much for being useful. Surely there was something helpful she could remember... Gray hummed to herself, glancing absentmindedly through one of the library windows.

"This must be in the South-East corner, look, you can see the sun's rising a bit from here. And there's food nearby," she added, sniffing. All right, so not that helpful, but still... "...Er, do we even have any ink? Or a pen?"

Poor Odnako, being poked at from every side. Even worse, if she scooted away from Sabriel, she couldn't keep an eye on Thylassa! Her ears swivelled and her puff of a tail flicked up, like a deer that's been startled and has turned to run. Chuffing again, she swiped clumsily at Sabriel's questing paw, trying to scoot herself away with her stronger back legs.

This one smelled funny too, how annoying of them all to smell weird and poke at her. Gray grimaced, seeing the deer child's lip tremble, expecting her to start wailing in a moment.

Gullien cocked her head as the deer-kid attempted retreat. She wasn't very good at it. Ah well. That's what happens when you're fuzzy and around grabbers. "Heads up." She shortly told the two on her legs before heaving herself upright. Standing for a moment, she let the blood run back into her legs as she cocked her head at Grey and Chin. "Well, we could all take a sheet and go through each floor. How many floors are there, three? Or more? I really have no idea. Then we can meet back up and swap sheets, hopefully make a complete map of them." Although maybe she should go with Grey or have Chin do it. It would suck if she ended up lost in some corridor for hours. Hmmm... She rummanged in her shoulder bag for a moment. "I've got two markers, but they're no good. They'd just bleed through the paper and make a mess." They were useful if she needed an emergency kanji for a jitsu or ofuda, but that was all they were useful for, really.

Thylassa clung back onto Gullien's leg as the tanuki lifted upright. Awww. She'd been hoping Sabriel was gonna do something really dumb and go for the dragon's eyes or something. Like he did with her. Boo. Although the dragon kid was getting snotty again. That wasn't so great.

"The southeast?" Chin wouldn't know how to figure that out, and was relieved Gray knew. It was definitely a start. "You never know, since all the floors got shifted around, but yeah. There's probably three. Neat idea!"

She considered over the search for pens, unsure of whether there were some tucked away in Sabriel's stroller or not. Hm..."There might be some in the stroller." she offered up hesitantly.

Odnako's hoof clipped his paw on the way past. For a clumsy blow, it actually hurt; when Gullien stood up, Sabriel, shocked by the pain, lost his grip and fell headfirst into the unhappy deer baby.

Thylassa's day could turn out lucky after all!

"I'll check, there might be some elsewhere if not." Gray shuffled off to go see about the stroller, wondering why she hadn't gotten one herself. It would probably be better than carting Odnako around in her arms all the time.

"If we split up, I think I'm liable to get lost and never find my way out again. Rescue teams'll find me a month later having been eaten by a hungry deer," she mused aloud as she shifted through the contents of the stroller's undercarriage. Pen, pen, pen... had to be one somewhere...

Odnako squealed in unhappy shock, rolling over with Sabriel on top. The deer baby began thrashing about with all four hooves in the air and at her 'attacker'--not exactly a comfortable place for Sabriel to be, or at least it wouldn't be if he was unlucky enough to get hit with a flailing hoof. To add insult to injury, she tried to butt him with her head, since biting him would have required her to stop her shrill shrieking.

Gray, ever-graceful, managed to get tangled up in the stroller in her attempt to see what had happened.

Gullien peered down at the pile of brown and black, amused. Well, she'd expected this to happen. However, those hooves and those tails weren't exactly a good combination in a tangle. Someone was going to end up bloody. Quickly shooting an arm downward, she avoided the thrashing hooves to grab Sabriel by the ruff and haul him up and out. She probably wasn't supposed to carry him by the ruff though... meh. She stuck him under one arm for safekeeping. That would work. The deer-kid, she left there. She was not chancing those little blunt weapons and highly breakable legs. Odnako could sort herself out once she stopped panicking.

Thylassa squeaked as Sabriel tumbled nose over tails onto Odnako, who started crying and lashed at him. Not good! She was gonna set Sabriel on fire! Sabriel was gonna catch on fire, and then Gullien would catch on fire and then the whole ROOM would catch on fire and this day SUCKED!
WAAAAAAAAH!

Christ.

An earsplitting yowl joined Odnako's shrieks and Thylassa's wailing, more out of fright than of pain as the deer baby started lashing out at him. On top of everything else, now something else had joined the fray!Sabriel turned on whatever-it-was that held him, not seeming to realize it was Gullien.

Chin rushed to Gray's aid, hardly able to help for watching the scene. Oh, geez. She hoped everyone was okay...

Gray managed to sort herself out with Chin's (slightly distracted) help, covering her own ears as she got close enough to see what had happened. Odnako on the floor, Sabriel in the air, all three of them wailing like banshees... typical fair as far as children were concerned. With a patient sigh, she scooped Odnako up from behind, making sure that she kept those hooves from pointing at her face or stomach. She was getting used to freaked out babies with cudgels for hands.

"Er, sorry." She smiled half-heartedly at Gullien, trying rather unsuccessfully to get Odnako to calm down.

Odnako thrashed valiantly in her caretaker's arms, still battling a furry fiend that was no longer there. Bad cat! His fault! And she was darn well gonna get him for that, one way or another.

Gullien shrugged, understandably distracted from Odnako and Gray. Sabriel appeared to have gone for the kill, digging in with needle-teeth and his thankfully blunt little fingers. Oh she could sympathize; from the way the little guy was shaking he was probably pretty tramuatized. She wasn't sure if Odnako had clipped him a good one or not either. However, she had her own tramuatized kit to look after and dripping blood on Lassa's head was not an ideal soothing method. It wasn't even a lousy soothing method. It was just plain not a good idea. She extended her arm out to Chin, watching Sabriel hang underside-down on it like a vampire koala. "Chin. Yours. Take it." Chin'd better grab him quick before she really started bleeding and made him slippery.

Thylassa simply sobbed, clinging to one of Gullien's legs. Odnako could cry loudly and Sabriel appearently cried violently but there was nothing on earth that could quite match the force of someone who cried with five eyes. Her front was already soaked and she clearly had no intention of stopping. Nothing less than a five-eyeball salute would serve as a memorial for char-broiled Sabriel and soon to be char-broiled everyone else.

Hovering by the stroller, Chinchillie watched Gray's calm performance with something like awe. She didn't have long to sit still; hearing the plea, she dodged around Odnako and her caretaker, going to pry Sabriel off of Gullien without hurting her more. This wasn't going to be easy.

And yet it was. One moment, the cat baby had been hysterical - the next, he'd fallen completely limp and still and silent, loosening his grip, and practically fell into her hands. She frowned down at him. "Sabriel?" That was...odd...he was okay as far as she could tell. He'd stopped. Just like that, for no reason. Weird.

Fleeing the scene, she only called back, "I'll get bandaids, okay?" hopefully over Thylassa's siren wailing. No need to freak out with two babies doing that already. At least, not aloud.

Gray's nose twitched at the smell of blood, and the hair at the nape of her neck prickled, and she almost imagined the growl rising in her throat before she realized what it was, who it was. Just Gullien. Just kitten scratches. The crow-girl smiled in a distracted sort of way, like she wasn't quite paying attention (she wasn't, really), feeling a little useless as she backed away from Gullien and her sobbing child.

Maybe it wasn't so much calmness as just a not-knowing-what-to-do feeling. She had no idea what you did with crying babies. They were supposed to stop eventually, right? She still wasn't even sure what had happened, and even with two wailing children and a bleeding raccoon woman it all just seemed a little trivial. Eventually the noise would go away, eventually the blood would clot... she just rather wished the noise would go away sooner than later.

Knowing that there was very little she could do to help and quite a lot she could do to make things worse, Gray merely cradled Odnako in her arms... and began humming. Nothing distinct, just some old soft tune, just on a whim, because it didn't seem like it could hurt.

Gullien raised a brow as Sabriel all but fell of her arm. Not her problem at the minute though. Sighing, she thought for a moment and shoke her injured arm, sending droplets of blood across the expensive carpeting. Okay. Leaning down, she hooked one arm under Thylassa's armpits and lifting.

Thylassa's sobbing was interrupted by an arm wrapping around her middle. Gullien? Before she could see who it was, she was off the ground, in the air and screaming. No baby cries now, but pure unalterated fear as she thrashed against the arm holding her, feet kicking out at nothing, desperate to escape, desperate to be back on the ground.

Gullien winced at the screaming and the little legs kicking her frantically in the ribs. Why Thylassa had this particular hangup she had no idea, but it did not make things fun. Falling back, she dropped herself into the chair that Chin had been in when she entered. She carefully pulled the little body into her lap, pushing Thylassa's head and ear against her breast where her heartbeat was and rubbing the little Mishap's back with the other. She didn't stop crying, but the raw terror and screaming ceased and instead she just snuffled into Gullien's mesh, occasionally whacking at her chest with one small unhappy fist.
With Thylassa taken care of for now, Gullien did inventory. Thylassa: okay, Gullien: bleeding, but clotting quickly. Best not to get stuck to the leather. Chin: fled, Sabriel: unknown, Grey: clearly lost, Odnako: still fighting. Okay... not great, but no one was dead. Everyone wins this round.

Chin now worried about all three of them. Was Odnako okay? Thylassa's sobbing had sounded terrible, and her own Sabriel was very quiet. Collapsing in a chair herself, she pulled the stroller closer for bandaids, but attended to him first.

Sabriel was recovering quickly. He sat curled up in her lap, subdued while in that dazed state, trying to clear his head by giving it little shakes. As soon as Thylassa's screaming stopped, he came to. He shot a terrified glance at Odnako before bolting under the couch where it was safe. Evilcrazydeer!

She leaned down, spying a tail or two poking out from underneath, but of the baby himself there wasn't a sign. "Sabriel?" The only reaction to having a hand poked down at him was a low rumbling growl. Definitely a warning. Chin gave up and fished out the box of bandaids, knowing she could at least help someone.

"Anyone want these?"

Odnako's cries were slowly subsiding, even when Thylassa began screaming in earnest, which would usually have been enough to set her off again. Still, those little legs wouldn't stop moving, and finally Gray had to plop down on the ground just so she could let Odnako's hooves touch the floor. That seemed to help, although Odnako immediately began looking for Sabriel, expecting the nasty beast to be hiding in some corner, ready to pounce. Just the thought of his big yellow eyes got her fur up on end and her eyes tearing up.

"Gullien needs them most," she sing-songed, watching them both from the corners of her eyes. It had finally occurred to her that she should probably make sure that there wasn't anything actually wrong with Odnako, and so her eyes were busy scanning the brown bundle. Not that a band-aid would do any good over fur, but still... besides, she didn't see anything terribly serious. There was a little scrape on one elbow (Odnako began whimpering again when she brushed her fingers over it), but the few drops of blood she saw were obviously Gullien's.

"Think I could use one over here, too... er, if those'll go over fur, it's not too thick I think. Feathers, you know, much worse." Gray glanced between the two of them, not sure why she felt mildly responsible for the whole mess. So much for maps.

Gullien shifted a little in the chair, attempting to lick at the toothmarks without dislodging Thylassa. Considering there was mesh and baby in the way, it was pretty much a doomed effort. She hated to leave blood marks behind... it was the sign of an amateur but there wasn't a lot she could do at the moment. "Just toss me a couple, Chin?" she called out. "I'll put them on in a minute when Thylassa calms down. Everyone else okay? Sabriel and Odnako doing alright?" Fortunately Thylassa seemed to have come out of the mess okay. Scared and unhappy, but not hurt. Gullien sighed, akwardly hoisting one arm away from the chair as she rubbed at the newt-girl's back. Hmmm... could she hook the stroller from here? An exploratory slipper managed to just barely brush one of the wheels. Gullien sighed and commited herself to the chair for the moment.

Thylassa snuffled into Gullien's chest, deeply unhappy. She kept her face pushed against Gullien, but carefully swiveled one bobble eye out to survey the room. No Sabriel... an angry Odnako standing there instead... Odnako HAD done something to Sabriel. Whimpering, Thylassa attempted to burrow into Gullien, not wanting the scary dragon-girl to get her too.
