OK, I've watched it.
WHYYYYYYYYY????? The Doctor really old, Jack trapped, Martha having to save everyone?! Amazing episode but WHY DID THEY LEAVE IT THERE?!?!? One week will never seem so long!! crying cry emo
Love the fact that they had to use Jack's Vortex Manipulator to get back (No calling it a space hopper, Doctor!), and the whole idea about the perception filter on the keys really impressed me. We've also found out that Jack kept his TARDIS key, because he took it off his keyring!
I'm surprised that the Doctor wasn't more angry about Jack working for Torchwood, but that must be the bit that RTD referred to in one of the Production Notes columns where he found himself wandering around Cardiff Bay at 3am.
I really liked the Gallifrey flashbacks actually. I thought they were as beautiful as I imagined, and nice to have a bit of reminiscence there too with the old Time Lord outfits from Arc Of Infinity and Trial Of A Time Lord.
And jelly babies made a reappearance!
And now for the regular feature...
Favourite quote(s):
Saxon: What this country really needs, right now, is a Doctor.
Martha: So what's the connection with you and the Master? Doctor: Just friends at first. Martha: I thought you were going to say he was your secret brother or something. Doctor: You've been watching too much television.
Doctor: Some were inspired, some ran away and some went mad. Martha: And what about you? Doctor: Oh, once I ran away, I never stopped.
Roll on next week.

Great episode- I think that the Toclafane are the Daleks in a new form, back from the void where they were trapped the last season. That would really suck for the Doctor, but the producers use the Daleks too much to have only one in existence. And the Master isn't scary enough- too funny and crazy to seem like a real threat.

Lemur9 Great episode- I think that the Toclafane are the Daleks in a new form, back from the void where they were trapped the last season. Could be, but I've got another theory. Remember the Master saying that if he told the Doctor the truth then his hearts would break? And him mentioning the Toclafane stories from when the two of them were kids? I think the Toclafane could well be the Time Lords back. The Daleks survived...(whited out)

This may be a stretch but... did anyone else think that those things may have been Gelth? I mean... the way they spoke did not sound Dalek"ish" to me... more ghost and petite like.
I dunno they just reminded me and my boyfriend of the Gelth. I mean... they had to live by reanimating dead bodies... and those machines are designed to kill but the blades are small so the bodies would not be torn to pieces...
Although, I don't see that as something that would make "his hearts break" unless he felt sorry for Gwyneth's someone now useless sacrifice. But I don't think the Doctor gets sentimental about humans like that... well except for Rose. crying

Okay, more theorizing here. The master said it would break the doctor's hearts if he knew. What if they're humans? The entire human race, he did say there were 6 billion of them, roughly the current population of the planet, and the master used a Paradox machine to bring them here.
I think they're humans from some alternate future where the Doctor did not manage to save them from some evil, some future where he's directly responsibly for what they've been turned into. That would suit the Master's fancy.
But that's just my theory. blaugh

Nice theory. Having roughly the same population as earth does make you wonder.
What if that what utopia is they get turned into human.3 and the coming darkness and the terrible cold is the end of the universe.
Everybody tapping in the same rhythm reminded me of "A Wrinkle in Time". The people of Camazotz where all synchronized to the rhythm of IT.

Hairy Priest Now that I think about it, it's too bad the Master used a laser screwdriver instead of his trusty old tissue compression eliminator on Jack. Just because it would have been funny watching an immortal mini Jack Harkness running around. Oh, GOD, yes! xd I did wonder why they went with a laser screwdriver instead of the TCE. I think the idea that he made a weapons-grade screwdriver kind of makes him a bit too similar to the Doctor in this incarnation. But... I'm willing to see where it goes...

Lemur9 And the Master isn't scary enough- too funny and crazy to seem like a real threat. What? It was his insanity that MAKES him so scary.
As for the Laser Screwdriver... He was Yana, remember? He must have lost his TCE when he became human. He probably found the laser screwdriver in the Tardis somewhere. Because the Tardis is huge...
At first, I thought the Killer Balls things were some kind of Time Lord Technology.
