"Sounds good. Let's get started then." Happily he picked up the pheasant and reclaimed his spear. He looked around for a bit of a clearing where they could light a fire without worrying about trees. It only took a few minutes to find one. Then he leaned his spear on a branch and turned to Vena. "Would you rather get the feathers off, or clear the ground and gather wood?" He held up the bird inquiringly. "I don't care which one I do."

Vena thought for a second, "I'll clear ground, and get some rocks to surroound the fire and get some wood." She nodded then went to the center of the clearing and pulled up some fo the grass there to make a nice flat place. As she finished she placed the grass she pulled in a pile to the side.

Rising to her paws she headed off into the forest to find some nice rocks to surround the fire. As she padded into the trees the last thing one could see was her orange tail disappearing into the green forest.

Fisk busied himself with preparing the bird. He settled down in the shady grass and started plucking the feathers, trying to keep them in a compact pile but losing some to the breeze. This took some time, of course, but he went at a steady pace, murmuring to himself under his breath once in a while. Then he fetched his spear and used the blade to remove the head and the feet and to open the end so he could clean out the parts he didn't want. He left them out so that if anything wanted to eat them it could, far enough from their own site that they wouldn't scare off whatever hungry beast chose to take them. Then he went off looking for some source of moving water, taking his spear along out of a kind of paranoid habit. He doubted that it would be stolen, but one could never be sure.

When he returned, the bird was clean and so was Fisk. He'd washed it, but then couldn't resist hopping into the water for a quick swim. Now he leaned his spear against a tree again and sauntered over to Vena, shaking back his damp hair. "How's the fire coming?"

A smile came from the orange wolftaur. she came back with an armfull of rocks. she laughed at the fact Fisk was wet. "Did you fall into the river too?" she teased. Then bending down she placed the rocks in a circle to conceal were she would put the fire.

Turning quickly she grabbed a pile of sticks she made earlier, while collecting rocks, of sticks which she brought into the clearing and started to organize some of them into the circle of rock. Though she postitioned herself carefully so she could see both what she was doing and Fisk.

Smirking he said, "No, I'm not that clumsy. I just wanted a swim." He watched her for a minute, then set about gathering his own sticks. These were long and as straight and inflexible as he could find. With them he fashioned a kind of grill, the forked sticks standing vertically and supporting the horizontal ones. This took quite a bit of time and experimentation, but eventually he had the grill set up to the side of the fire and placed the pheasant on it. "I'll move it over when the fire's gone to coals," he explained.

He settled down opposite Vena with a content sigh. "So." He had nothing to say, but he thought that seemed to say it all. There was nothing that really needed saying anyway.

A sweet happy sound rung through the air as the dark orange wolftaur laughed. Though much to her dispair she could not hear it, though she didn't really care, she was having a good time.

Vena then nodded as he spoke about placing the grill over once the fire turned to coals. Then once she finished placing the sticks she nodded at him, replying to his simple word. She sat back a little so not to be burned by the flames after they were lit. She was letting him do that.

He sat there for a few seconds before he realized that there was one more thing to be done. "Oh! Right! I'll light it... let's see..."

Laughing at himself he took an extra stick from making his grill and twirled it in his hand to inspect it. He took a thicker one from the fire. "These should do," he murmured, and placed the thick one on the ground in front of him, holding it down with a paw on each end. Then he set the thin one's end down in the middle of it and started spinning it by rubbing it between his hands. At first he went slowly, getting his rhythm, then more quickly. It was clear that he was well practiced from the precision of his movements.

"Some taurs think fires aren't needed," Fisk said, sky blue eyes flicking up at Vena from his task. "But I personally think food tastes a lot better cooked. Also easier to eat. It's my stomach that's like a wolf's, not my mouth."

He watched for smoke coming from the place where wood met wood. Nothing yet. The pace of his hands continued to gradually increase and he wasn't yet breaking a sweat. After all, he cooked over a fire every couple of days. This was easy.

After a moment he smiled. "I hope you like things cooked. Even if you don't, I bet you'll like my cooking."

His smile widened, showing his canines, and it wasn't clear whether he was joking or if he really was that certain.

Vena watched him start the fire, she took what he did into her mind, just incase she needed to use his way. Shifting herself over she folded all ehr paws neatly beneath herself for more confort. Her tail twitched slightly behind her stirring up the small dust particles a bit.

Her bright blue eyes looked up to Fisk's face. She knew she thought he was cute, but of course said nothing about it. But then his mouth moved and she paid more attention so they could talk. "Sometimes I cook, but it's not that good. I bet anyone could cook better." She laughed, making her blue eyes sparkle a bit more. "I'm sure your cooking is better hten mine, there's no worries that I'll like it." She laughed a bit more. She enjoyed this taur's company a lot. A smile crept along her features after she finished laughing, her canines too showed, though not on purpose, just becuase they were big.

"Oh, oh, there it is! See the smoke?" As a wisp of white drifted up from where the sticks were rubbing together, Fisk increased the spinning and pressed down hard. Soon a little hollow in the larger stick was glowing orange. Tossing aside the smaller stick he cupped a hand around the glow to protect it, then bent over the fire and gently blew the spark into some miscellaneous dry stuff that worked for tinder. With a bit of prodding and shifting he had the tinder lit, and soon he had a small fire going at the base of Vena's wood. "There it goes."

He continued to tend the fire, coaxing it higher and larger. It was still early, barely past the border between afternoon and evening, but there is something about firelight that makes everything outside of it look darker. Fisk's skin was brightened to a honey color by the red-orange.

When the fire was flickering and spitting sparks into the air between them, he couldn't help but start to eye the pheasant. He knew he should wait until the fire was down to coals -- it was much easier to control the cooking that way. But that might be a long time, and the day's hunting, the swim he'd taken earlier, and the good company was making him impatient to get started.

His grill was a precariously built object; moving it closer to the fire was a risky business. Nevertheless he kept it from falling apart and managed to put it over the flames, which licked the wood but were not hot enough at that height to start any more fires.

Abashedly he grinned at Vena after the bird was settled. "Hopefully it'll be done faster if I start it sooner."

The fire-red flames reached higher and higher in Vena's vision. They were beauitful. She stared at them as she fire started. It had been so long since she had actually had a fire. The red light glowed from the fire and reflected the orange fur of her pelt, setting it's color aflame as well. So she looked like a firey taur with watery eyes.

As Fisk moved to place the grid on, her gaze shifted from the fire to the light forest green wolftaur across from her. Noting how much handsomer he looked in the firelight with his honey colored skin. She watched him carefully place the grid over the fire. He said of few words which she had just caught, "Yes. Hopefully." She gave him a smile.

Vena's gaze shifted to watching the bird in the middle of the flames, it slowly being threatened by the togues of flames below it. It amused her, the glowing tongues of flame flickering and crackling as it evaporated the water and sap inside the wood.

"Beautiful flames." She complamented him, his flames seemed much better then her own. Maybe it was......she couldn't think of a reason and left it there. Her tail twitched as she got up and moved to sit closer to him. Though she made it look like she just wanted a better view at the pheasent and how she was going to cook it.

He nodded in agreement -- fire had a unique beauty. In his world of hunting it was a utility, something that he used, practically a tool. But now, sitting with another wolftaur and watching their catch brown in slow motion, he was not thinking about where his next hunt would be, nor was he sharpening his spear or doing any other practical things. He was only thinking about how nice this was, and how lucky he was to be there, and how pretty Vena's voice was. It was sad to think that she could not hear it.

She moved over next to him and he glanced up, his senses heightened suddenly. It felt almost like when he was stalking his prey. A little different... Kind of nervous, which he never was when hunting. In fact he rarely was nervous at all. He smiled, took a breath to dispel the strange nervousness, and turned back to the fire, knocking the ash from the stick he was holding and using it to turn the pheasant. On the side that had been facing the flame the skin was darkened. The wonderful smell coming from it helped to clear his head.

Vena watched Fisk turn the phesant over. The beautiful smell came into her senses. It was wonderful. She smiled, licking her lips, she couldn't help but act a bit like a wolf as she stared at her future meal. Her tail started twitching slightly.

Her blue gaze then shifted to look at Fisk. He was a very good cook. Especially on such a large flame, in her head she'd swear if it was her she'd burn the bird by now. She looked back to the flames. Inside her she felt a sudden unease, but she shook it away. She was happy, why should she let some unexplained feeling ruin it for now?

For some time he continued to cook the pheasant, turning it until it was dark on all sides and then using the stick and burning himself to cut it in half and make sure the insides were hot as well. "Need to find myself a knife sometime," he said jovially while he sucked on his burned finger.

With his free hand he took two sticks -- the one he was using as a poker and one from the end of the grill -- and he held them parallel, using them as awkward tongs to clamp over the end of one half of the bird. He transferred it to Vena. "Here you go. Enjoy!"

He took the other half for himself, and when it was empty the grill collapsed into the flames. A spray of sparks flew into the air and Fisk coughed on smoke and laughed.

Vena looked clearly worried when Fisk burned himself. But as he seemed fine she relaxed. Her eyes gave away her relief that he was ok.

As she was passed the phesant she took it with a gentle, "Thank you." as soon as she had the half for her own in a good firm grip, she looked a teh fire only to have smoke fly into her face, causing her to choke and laugh as she saw the grid fall apart. A spark flew at her and it nearly hit her on the nose but she moved jsut intime and didn't get burned, which caused her to laugh harder and choke more, in her mind she wondered how much longer her lungs could take this, but she kenw she'd be ok in the end.

After a bit of coughing, Vena finally cleared her lungs enough so she could breathe again and started to eat the phesant, glad that the fire gave them light. The warmth of the flame made her comfortable, and warmer against the slight chill in the night air. Starting to shiver slightly she took another bite of the extremely good tasting phesant, after she swallowed that bite she smiled at Fisk, "This is wonderful. Thank you."

He considered thumping her on the back when she was coughing, but remembered that was for choking on food and would probably not help with choking on smoke. Clearing his throat and rubbing his watering eyes, Fisk turned to his own pheasant and attacked it... well... wolfishly. At Vena's thanks he beamed and nodded. His mouth was full so he didn't bother saying anything -- his lips would be impossible to read.

Night settled over them. Fisk stirred up the fire and lazily picked the last of the meat from the bones. He realized that he didn't know what Vena had been doing before he came across her. "Do you have anywhere you were supposed to get back to tonight?" he asked.
