Hello, my name is Silcis (some call me Silk, some call me Cooper). My intro is going to be a tad rambly...

Well, my step-father raised me as a sort of... half-mechanic. He restores classic British sports cars and motorbikes. As a little girl, I thought that mechanical pieces were gorgeous, so I got to tinker around in his workshop with him.

When my friend first introduced me to steampunk, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I combination of history and technology! So it went from there...

In real life, I own a pair of chrome and leather motorcycle goggles. I love them to death. heart

I've just recently gotten into Steampunk, although, like many others, I've always liked history and older technology. For me, the aesthetic appeal is what excites me so much about Steampunk. I'm an artist, and I feel like technology is getting uglier and more boring. The way people design buildings and everyday objects is just plain lazy! I love how Steampunk gives us a way to remember a time when things were beautiful.

My Deviantart is here.

Hi! I'm Laura. I'm also fairly new to steampunk, but I love the concept of it and hope to explore it much, much more. I'm not so much into sci-fi (aliens and UFOs mostly), but a hint of the supernatural is always a must. I don't really like any particular part of steampunk, except maybe just steam engines in general. biggrin I'll be posting random steampunkiness whenever I'm not too busy with school. heart

Cordially,
Laura

Hey, I'm, uh, Nettaiya.
Though, I have been giving thought to changing my name to Isambard, even if it is traditionally a guy name. Any thoughts? (I was keeping this a secret, but I figured you steampunk types should be able to help with input, as it is mildly related.)

Anyways, I'm mostly new to steampunk, pretty ignorant of the culture, but I am interested in literary works, or movies and such that incorporate this theme.

My favorite part of steampunk so far is the little mechanical parts that can combine together to make complicated, impossible machines of wonder. And the goggles!

Outside of steampunk, I enjoy anime and manga, music, writing, and learning various languages.

Yep, that's me. Hope to meet some cool people here.

I'm Alicia. I like art and history. Translating song lyrics into their meanings is a hobby of mine. I love art. Smashing Pumpkins is my favorite band, and I'm really open minded. I want to learn more about the Steam Punk genre because I really loved Le Voyage Dans La Lune. Hi.

Commander Rockwell

PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2007 1:22 am

I'm Commander Rockwell (well duh) and I can honestly saw I don't know too much about steampunk. The only introduction I've had to it is Steamboy (the anime), Wild Wild West (movie and tv series), and The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne (tv series). I'm basically here to learn more and to pump people for information.

My name is Alicia and I've always seen this imgae of a moon with a grimace and something in itseye. After re-watching the Smashing Pumpkins video Tonight, Tonight, I looked up the moon with something in its eye because I never knew where it came from.I found out it was from Le Voyage Dans La Lune. I developed a small obsession with the film and finally found a place to watch it in its entirety. I then learned through Wikipedia that the genre it was under is Steampunk. I am now very interested in learning more about Steampunk. As an aside, I love art.

Why hi.

I am one Miss Vexworth, or you can call me Lily if you're into that whole real-name dealie.

I've been a history nerdling since time immemorial, growing up in the company of a historian/professor father - as well as fascinated by the inner workings of pretty much everything, courtesy of growing up also with a neighbor who built a helicopter from scratch in his garage.

I love books. I am a complete raving rampaging literaturehead, actually.

I tend to be obscenely elaborate in my outward appearance, and usually don't even TRY to end up so.

"Oh my." I thought one day. "History, odd mechanicalities, books, and fanciness, ALL IN ONE? Such a thing exists? IT HAS A NAME? How lovely."

Hello everyone! I have been a fan of steampunk for a long time, but I didn't know that there was an actual name for the subculture until I started posting on Gaia recently. I created this account and proceeded with a 2 year hiatus in which I pretty much forgot all about Gaia until Fanimecon2007, where you couldn't walk 10 feet without someone wearing something Gaian.

Anywho, I'm currently an upper graduate student working towards my bachelor's degree in anthropology, with an archaeology emphasis. I love post-apocalyptic and steampunk(which sometimes go together) RPs. My love of steampunk comes from no way an inclination towards the mechanical. I just love the feel of the culture. Big cogs, steam pipes, random ticking noises, the occasional mecha and airships are a must! Much love everyone.

Hah, sounds like how I discovered Steampunk.

Hallo all!

I'm Dax! I'm quite fascinated with all this steampunk-ish stuff... though (like others here) it wasnt until fairly recently that I discovered there was acutally a name for it!

about me... lets see.. I'm a college student... majoring in mechanical engineering, with a minor in german (and possibly math). I love reading, drawing, playing card games, cooking, playing the saxaphone, and watching Law and Order xd

Hello.

My name is Saturnine, or Sat in short. I enjoy reading books. I first became entranced with what I found to be Steampunk (though, to be honest, the term grates on me) when I found all manner of spiritual and quasi-mystical associations that accompanied the development of gunpowder. Technology and spirituality's co-evolution is, to me, endlessly fascinating, as well as a lot of Victorian literature.

Plus, I love coats.

You can naturally understand the appeal of this guild.
