Beggar's Night Lance huffed a little, and adjusted his belt, patting the sword at his side, before turning to look at his mom. He grinned widly to her, and gave her two thumbs up.
"You did a really good job on my Murtagh costume mum! My hair's even brown and kinda curled like his!" he beamed.
Before now he'd never even heard of Hallowe'en, but the way his mother ran around excitedly had rubbed off on even him, and when Dragonfly had explained about the recieving of candy, why Lance could hardly wait!
"When is Chailyn going to get here?" Lance asked politely, tilting his head and gazing up at Dragonfly as she adjusted one of her wings, stretching it out, before placing it back down flat against her back.
"I'm not sure Lance," Dragonfly replied, adjusting her hair next, and pursing her lips slightly, "Soon though, I'd expect. We don't want to be the last ones out!"
Chailyn tugged on Anemone's hand, slightly sad that her mother hadn't dressed up. It didn't really affect her mood too much as she mostly excited to see Lance again. She hadn't been asked to go Trick or Treating with anyone else and would've asked someone if she could reach the phone. Somehow the tale thought she would only have to pick it up and whoever she wanted to talk to would be on the other end.
"Mommy, come on. I don't want to be late," Chailyn chirped out. She let go of her mother's hand feeling tired of pulling on it and decided to just run on ahead. The breeze caused the faux pink fur to tickle her neck as she reached up to make sure her small horns were straight.
It took a few moments before they reached Dragonfly's and knocked on the door, finding it's creepiness fitting for Halloween. Had it been any other day they would've thought they were in the wrong place.
Dragonfly's house had always been creepy, and more than likely it always would be. Hallowe'en caused it to be even creepier, because Dragonfly put her heart and soul into decorating the house like the bloodiest, scariest manor she could; even if it didn't need it.
At the sound of the door, Lance dashed out of the room, and down the stairs. He bypassed the massive bowl of candy Dragonfly had bought, and pulled open the door, a wide grin upon his features. Jack-o-lanterns flickered and cast them both in an eerie orange glow, but Lance paid no attention to that.
"Chailyn!" he exclaimed, grinning and wrapping his arms around the other in a tight, friendly hug, "I thought you were never gonna get here! I've been so excited aaall daay!"
Chailyn giggled excited all too happy to jump into Lance's hug. "I tried to get Mom to come earlier but she said she had to help my siblings with their costumes," she said giving a simple pout before wiping it off her face. "I've been bouncing around all day just waiting to come!" she added with a grin.
Anemone gave a soft laugh, "She would've been here at day break if she could've walked here on her own." She looked around, finding the creepiness of Dragonfly's gave her shivers as chills ran down her spine. "Your mother sure did a wonderful job making your house look...scary," she mentioned looking at the two tales to give her mind a break from the many sights to see. She wasn't queasy in the least but she hadn't had the most pleasant nightmare and the images threatened to make it re-emerge.
"Do you like my costume? It's a bit too pink but it's got wings!" Chailyn stated.
Lance grinned and pulled away slowly, looking Chailyn over with an approving gaze.
"You look wonderful!" Lance grinned, before looking up to Anemone, "I wouldn't have minded if she'd been here that early! I wanted ta go pick her up but mom said it was easier just to wait, and that we might miss each other if I went to get Chai,"
He smiled, brightly, swishing his tail, before boasting, "I helped Dragonfly with all the decorations. They turned out super spooky!"
He grinned widely, and pointed at some bats hanging out of one of the many gnarled trees that littered the overgrown yard, "I especially helped with makin' the bats! And the ghosties hanging in the trees too!"
Chailyn gave a soft blush at Lance's compliment though she was happy he thought so. "You look wonderful, too!" she added. She gave a look outside noticing the bats and ghosts. "Wow, those look great! I wished we'd made some decorations like those!" She was in awe finding the spooky decorations very neat since it was all in fun. Had they been in a dream or somewhere foreign she probably would've been scared to death.
"The decorations look great," Anemone added mostly because she didn't know what else she could say. She was silent for a moment, "I'll pick Chailyn up later. I have to take her brothers and sisters out. You'll be ok, Chai?"
"Thank you Chai," Lance smiled, "I helped my mom make my costume too- we worked real hard,"
He grinned widly and looked back over towards the bats and ghosts, "They were easy, and fun to make," he replied to both Ane and Chailyn simultaniously,
"Momma can give you the pattern- for next year! And maybe next year, Chai, you and I can make some togethor!"
Lance quieted as Ane spoke, and he grinned, "I'll take real good care of Chai! She'll be okay!"
Ane felt at ease as Lance spoke up, assured that he would really take good care of Chai. "All right then. Be good Chai," she added giving her daughter a hug. She gave a smile waving before walking away.
"Don't worry Mommy," Chailyn shouted out waving at her mother before looking at Lance. "It'd be fun to make decorations together next year!" she said sounded almost more excited about that idea than the idea of going out to get candy. "Maybe next year we can decorate the shop, too, and my house!" She was thinking it'd be fun to decorate the whole town but, it already was so they could stick with decorating his house and her house and the shop, maybe.
"Fake wings are kind of itchy, if I had real ones we could learn to fly together and then trick people on Halloween," she giggled. It was a harmless and cute idea in her head. She could see them both upside down peeking down as people open their doors.
Lance's wings were burried in hiding amongst the fabric of his cloak, and he gazed at hers, before reaching out to run a hand over the soft feathers.
"You're wings are nice and soft, not like mine. Mine are itchy and yucky," Lance said, scrunching up his snout slightly.
"But we definately have to decorate stuffs togethor next year! It's really fun!" Lance grinned, "I'd love to help you decorate your house too!"
He laughed brightly, before gently taking her wrist, and leading her inside, "Until Dragonfly's ready, there's no point standin' in the doorway!"
It was after all, kind of cold outside! It was almost winter.
"Your wings aren't yucky!" Chailyn objected. "You have beautiful wings," she added. She gave a nod of approval even though his were hidden. She had forgotten that she was still standing in the doorway until he said something and began to lead her inside. "Good point, I'll let all the cold air in," she micmicked something she heard adults say when doors were open in the winter.
"I was going to dress up as a...what was it called...a ny-m-fa? I don't remember but it was green and had these like see-through wings. It was itchy and stuff though, so I picked this one cause it's soft," she explained. She hoped he didn't think she meant the color green was ugly because she was rather fond of the color, especially on Lance. In attempt to let him know that, she took off the Trick or Treat bag she had over her back. "I got one with a green dragon on it! Well, Mom put the dragon on it but I found it. It looks so pretty on black, don't you think?" She handed it to him so he could see it, finding that the green strap matched the dragon perfectly.
She'd thought of putting a pink sprite on it, or a flower, or a pumpkin but once she'd seen the dragon, she thought it was perfect since she was going around with Lance.
Lance shuffled uncomfortably, before murmering, "My wings feel funny now-a-days. 'Feels like m'too big for m'skin or sumthin',"
He shrugged this off quickly though, closing the door after Chailyn, and grinning widly, shrugging the seriousness he'd used in his tone almost immediatly.
Lance gazed at Chailyn's bag, and couldn't help the warm smile that lit upon his features.
"That's really cool Chailyn!" Lance exclaimed, feeling touched that Chailyn had chosen a green dragon to put on her bag, "It looks real cool! My bag is just a pillow case..."
Chailyn frowned at the serious tone in his voice about to ask him if he was ok. Seeing his smile back, she let her frown disappear turning into a smile. The worry she had felt melted away and grinned. "I was going to use one of those pumpkin ones but it was so...round..." she giggled. She had actually wondered if the pumpkin ones were too small as well, having no idea how much candy to expect. In the end, she'd opted for the black bag instead. Mostly because she could decorate it.
"You could put bats and ghosts on it to make it more...un-pillowly?" she suggested though it came out more as a question. She wasn't sure what term to use or if he wanted it to be just a pillow case. She gave a giggle in nervousness hoping it didn't sound as stupid as she thought it did.
"That's not a bad idea Chai!" Lance grinned, "But it'd take too much time and I really wanna get going really soon! Next year though, maybe we can decorate pillow cases togethor too!"
He lead Chailyn up the stairs, taking them two at a time, before pausing to wait for Chailyn, grinning to her, positively teeming with excitement.
"Mom should be ready real quick and we can go and get lots of candy!" Lance cheered.
"Okay then, next year!" she followed after him climbing the stairs as she could go. She smiled toddling after him feeling a bit slow. She tilted her head as she caught up wondering if or what Dragonfly had dressed up as. She was curious about costumes, wanting to know what they were of, why they were chosen, but it was doused by her excitement to go out with Lance. She imagined Trick or Treating would be wonderful with her friend and his mother.
"Moommaa" Lance called as they neared the hallway, "Chai and I are all ready to go! Hurry up! Pleeease!"
Lance's tail swished as he reached the top of the stairs, and he turned back, reaching out to take Chailyn's hand, grinning to her.
"Momma looks real pretty in her costume. Not as pretty as you though Chai!"
He helped her up the last step, before standing in the hallway, rubbing his toes over the crimson velvet carpet that stretched through the expanse of the home.
"I'll be right out!" Dragonfly called in response to Lance, doing one final adjustment to her hair, before stepping out into the hallway.
She was clad in an elegant black dress, her black wings fully extended, and held just above the floor. She didn't want the tips of them to scrape along the ground, after all! Her long ears were carrying a set of beautiful, seemingly diamond ear rings, and atop her head was a fine crown of twisting, elegant gold. Or rather, it was less a crown and more a tiara.
Chailyn took hold of Lance's hand and followed giving a grin at his compliment. No wonder she liked him so much. She was about to say something when she heard Dragonfly's voice.
She gasped as she looked at his mother. She blinked a few times opening her mouth in awe. "Wow..."
She took a step back looking up and then down. "Pretty..." was the only other word she could say at the moment. She wondered if Dragonfly was a goddess or angel or something since she looked so pretty. Not that her mother didn't, but Chailyn really hadn't seen Anemone dress up and thought Dragonfly looked wonderful. She stared at the wings wondering if they were real and reached out to touch them before looking up and thinking better of it.
"...black feathers...beautiful..." she blushed looking down for a moment. She clutched Lance's hand a little tighter trying to stand up straighter and look just as elegant and gorgeous as Dragonfly. She was star struck and wondered if she would ever look that pretty. A sigh almost escaped her mouth before she shook her head lightly.
"You look very pretty, Lance's mom," she added giving a wide smile.
Dragonfly looked somewhat faraway as she approached the two children, before smiling broadly, and kneeling down before the awstruck Chailyn.
"Chailyn," Dragonfly smiled, "You look gorgeous. Even prettier than me!"
She chuckled, and reached out to place a hand on the other's shoulder, grinning widly. When she noticed that the other had extended a hand to brush over her wings, she shifted her shoulder, bringing one to drape forward slightly.
"You can feel them if you like," she smiled.
"And, you can call me Dee, Chai," she laughed brightly, "So are you two ready to get going? We've got a lot of candy to collect tonight!"
Lance cheered at the prospect of leaving, and smiled brightly to Chai. The evening was going to be so fantastic!
Chailyn smiled a feeling of relief washing over her. She gave a blush before reaching out to touch the soft feathers. "They're soft like mine," she grinned, "Dee." She couldn't help her big grin, it was almost an honor to be aloud to call an adult by a nickname. It let her relax more since she didn't feel she had to say the woman's full name, or anything. She was still going to be polite but it was a relief not to have to be formal.
"Yay! Candy collecting!" she cheered with Lance. It was definately going to be fantastic. She'd been told two jokes by Aislinn that she could use. She hadn't actually gotten the first one about the football team and the bank. Luckily, the skeleton joke about having no body to go with made sense.
Dragonfly couldn't help but grin at the childrens' enthusiasm, and she chuckled softly, before pulling herself back up onto her feet.
"Well then, I don't think we should delay it any longer! Candy ho!" she grinned, pointing down the stairs, and towards the front door.
Lance jumped for joy, before he began running haphazardly down the stairs. He stopped in the middle to wait for Chailyn, but one could see that he was positively shaking with the excitement to get going.
Chailyn followed Lance as fast as she could, but had to slow down so she wouldn't trip. Somehow she didn't think falling down the stairs would be a good idea. She toddled down slowly catching up to her friend after a moment. "I'm coming. I'm a bit slow on the stairs," she apologized. She lifted her arms pulling at strands of her cinnamon hair trying to shove it back into the pin so it'd stay out of her face. She paused before continuing after Lance, satisfied that her hair was in the pin.
She didn't even think of fixing any other part of her outfit. She was thinking about collecting candy and having fun. "I bet Lance'll collect enough candy to make a shield!" she giggled. She could almost imagine the dragon dressed in candy armor, holding a candy shield and sword. It looked hilarious in her head. She was about to say something else when she was struck with a sudden question. "Do dragon knights ride horses?" she mused outloud before giggling again picturing a candy horse by Lance's side.
Lance didn't mind waiting for Chailyn. After all, if he was always running ahead it wouldn't be any fun for either of them! He took her hand when she reached him, slowing himself to skip along with her at her pace. Dragonfly followed after them, able to keep up only because she had long legs. If the two were any older she knew that she would have definately had to jogged at least to keep up.
"I can try!" Lance grinned in response to Chai suggesting how much candy he was going to collect.
He paused at her second question though, and looked thoughtful for a long moment, "I don't know. Maybe. I guess we could if our wings got tired..."
This gave Lance an idea, and he turned his head to look at Dragonfly, "Momma, can I learn how to ride a horse?"
Dragonfly pursed her lips, pondering this request, and wondering if she even knew anyone with horses, or anyone who could teach her son equestrian riding.
"Perhaps," she replied serenly.
"Mommy used to tell me stories about how when she was little she rode horses where she comes from. Maybe she could teach you? If we find a horse that is..." she giggled. The horse was a pretty important part of learning to ride she thought. It would be hard to do learn anything without it, at least she thought so. There were probably other things one could learn to ride on but she couldn't think of anything.
She accepted Lance's hand happily glad he had slowed down so she could keep up. It'd be nice when she could walk faster but she did have short legs and for every step taller, older kids took she had to take two. She imagined it'd be harder if she'd had a costume that was a long dress and it made her grateful that she was wearing pants. Honestly, she didn't like dresses too much unlike some of her sisters. She supposed she'd grow into it, so to speak.
"We'll get lots of candy, because who can resist us!?" she grinned.
"Yeah!" Lance grinned in agreement, before chanting, "Lots of candy lots of candy lots of candy!"
Lance skipped a little at the last step, before scooping Chailyn up in a hug, and setting her down on the floor at the last step, grinning widly.
"This is gonna be so much fun!" he grinned, before adding, "I'll be right back! I gotta go to the kitchen and grab my pillow case!"
"Why don't you bring back a few cupcakes with you Lance? That way you'll have lots of energy while we're out and about!" Dragonfly suggested.
Lance positively beamed at the idea, and dashing into the kitchen he grabbed two orange frosted chocolate cupcakes from off of the counter, before reaching for his pillow case (while balancing the two cupcakes in one hand) and slinging it over his shoulder. He came back with the cupcakes, and held one out for Chailyn to take.
"Marcus baked 'em, but I put the frosting and sprinkles on," he grinned.
Chailyn mirrored Lance's grin giggling as she was scooped up. She eagerly returned the hug holding on for a moment before she was set down. At Dee's suggestion, her stomach growled. She'd had an early dinner with everyone else but had been too excited to eat desert. A chocolate cupcake with orange frosting and sprinkles sounded wonderful.
"Ooh, that sounds yummy," she beamed up at Dragonfly waiting for Lance to return. Once he did, she graciously accepted the cupcake thanking him.
"It looks delicious, Lance!" she started taking a small bite. "Mmm, tastes wonderful," she said after swallowing. It'd be rude to see her chewing while she talked, though a cupcake probably didn't look too bad compared to somethings. Thankfully she didn't know the seefood joke.
Lance took a big bite of his cupcake, grinning widly at her compliment, while still being polite enough to grin enough not to show his food. Lance did know the 'seefood' joke, but he was far too polite to do anything as gross as that.
"Marcus is a really good cook," he smiled, once he had finished enough of his bite to speak politely.
"You'll get lots of energy out of cupcakes," Dragonfly giggled, tousling Lance's hair fondly.
Lance grinned up at his mom, smiling happily.
"So are you both ready to go?" Dragonfly asked, "Have everything you need? We won't be coming back for an hour or two! Not until you've both got enough candy that you're satisfied!"
"I'm going to fill up my whoooole pillow case!" Lance grinned! pulling it off his shoulder now that he'd finished his cup cake.
She was sure that Marcus was good cook. She'd never tried cooking herself, she was too young but it always seemed like fun. It was wonderful to think about as she finished eating her cupcake. "His cupcakes taste very good," she told Lance giving a smile.
Chailyn smiled at Dee nodding. She had everything she needed and was ready to go. She held her bag in one hand by the green straps and leaving the other hand free to hold onto Lance's or Dee's. She'd probably have to when it came to going out, since it might be crowded and she didn't want to get separated or lost. She didn't think she would though. She was sure that both Lance and Dee would take care of her.
"I'm ready!" she said excitedly.
Lance reached out almost immediatly to take Chai's hand in his own, positioning himself on the opposite side of Dragonfly, so that Chai was in the middle. Dragonfly reached down to take Chai's hand, smiling brightly to both children.
"Right then," she grinned, "Off we go!"
And with that, the trio headed out the door, to begin trick or treating.
"We'll have to walk a little while before we hit anymore inhabited houses, but after that we'll only have to wake a few paces before hitting a home with more candy!" Dragonfly grinned.
Chai nodded finding that although she didn't like walking a lot, she didn't mind it when she was with friends. "That's okay. I just hope that I remember the two jokes my sister Linn told me," she blushed. She had a habit of freezing up sometimes when people looked at her, mostly because her stomach knotted with nerves. It happened more when a group of people stared at her so she hoped it wouldn't happen tonight. She didn't think there'd be a group of people opening a door. Or at least she hoped not.
"Mom said if I forgot my jokes I just say, 'Trick or Treat'." She told herself as a reminder. She was jittering with excitement inside and held tightly to both Dee and Lance, her bag hanging from her wrist. "If there was a little dog and another person, we could be from The Wizard of Oz," she giggled.

Petite Pirouette Madame Belle looked at Chailyn with a smile, clapping her hands. It was definately an improvement. The toddler twirled around, her ballet slippers sliding against the wooden floor. She was trying to teach the petite ballerina how to do a pirouette but was having a bit of trouble. Chailyn could easily turn around but everytime she lifted her left leg, she began to wobble. It was funny but Madame Belle did her best not to laugh carefully allowing the child to learn against her for some support.
Chailyn sighed finding it frustrating. She just couldn't get her balance it seemed. She gave a soft pout wanting so much to be able to be graceful like Madame Belle. It looked so easy when her teacher did it. She simply spun like she was on a pedastal, invisible people holding onto her arms and twirling around so there was no chance that she would fall. The tale wanted to achieve that.
"Have you ever walked in a straight line?" Madame Belle asked an idea popping into her head. She held up a finger, asking the tale to give her a moment. She walked over to the stereo, pulling out a roll of blue painter's tape. She bent down using her fingernails to pull the start off. Pressing it against the floor, she made a line tearing the tape at the end. Giving a smile, she put the tape back before beckoning Chailyn to come to her. "Now, this is how you walk a straight line in ballet."
Madame Belle stood with her back straight looking straight ahead and putting the tip of her toe at the line. She let her arms come up to balance herself as she carefully lifted her right leg placing her heel just in front of her other foot. She continued like that to the middle of the line before stopping. "Your turn now."
"How will this help?" Chailyn asked confused. Instead of an answer, she got silence and stood in front of the line. She stood as tall as she could manage, letting the teacher correct her posture since she had a tendency to arch her back. She let out a breath letting her arms come out like wings and began to walk forward trying hard to look forward rather than look down.
After many tries, Chailyn finally seemed to get it down. She found closing her eyes helpful since she couldn't look down to see the line and had to trust that she was walking in a straight line. The clapping of her teacher's hands signaled that she was doing a good job and she smiled.
"There, now that you're learning to balance yourself, let's try this," her teacher interrupted. Standing in front of the tale, she took the ballerina's hand and joined them together raising her arms so they were above her head. "Don't stick your thumbs out, put them against the side of your hand," she added giving a smile. She moved back to observe the child's posture for a moment before kneeling down and putting a hand on the tale's waist. "First, I want to let you know how to move your leg when you lift it. You don't want to bend it at the knee and push it back, because your foot will arch and it'll push against your back. Instead, you should point your toe out then swing it to the side. Then your lower leg will be behind you slightly."
The teacher had to help Chailyn get her leg in the right position the first few times, just enough to stretch and limber up the muscles so she wouldn't get hurt. "Are you going to spin me?" Chailyn asked.
"Nope, you're going to bring your arms down placing them out and then spin yourself."
"What if I fall?"
"Then you'll try again. Don't think about falling, just think about spinning," the teacher instructed. She gave a smile standing up and moving back. Letting the tale have a moment, she twirled her finger. "Spin."
The tale took a breath as she pulled her arms down holding them out. Stepping forward on her right leg and arched her back slightly, pulling her left leg up and began a pirouette. With a wide smile, her teacher watched saying nothing at first. "Perfect."

Searching Interrupted The stationary shop was a warm haven for Chailyn as she pulled in her mother. She was actually hoping she could get some stationary to stick in her tome. She wanted to make her tome pretty but she wasn't sure what she wanted. So naturally, she'd asked her mother.
Anemone had suggested heading to the stationary shop, mainly because she didn't want to shuffle through on the rather cold day. She was a bit tired having not slept well that night. Still, she didn't want to sleep in today so she'd gotten up and after breakfast set off with the tale.
"Let's look for some out here first," Ane suggested. Taking the sample book off the counter, she handed to Chai. The tale nodded plopping down on the floor and began to flip through the pages.
Elena sulked alongside Jerava as they walked through the streets of Gaia. The elf has refused to allow Rasalus to accompany them on their trip to the Sationary Store - the first such trip since Elena had arrived.
"Look, we're here," Jer said, interrupting Elena's dark thoughts. The girl momentarily brightened at the sight of the store, perhaps there would be things to look at within. Jer pushed open the door before Elena could slide back into sulkiness, calling out a hello in case there was someone besides the storeowners within.
"Hello? Elena inquried as well, peeking her head around Jer's legs. The Tale was bundled up against the cold, and couldn't wait to take off her restrictive jacket.
Anemone looked up watching the door open. She was kneeling beside Chailyn trying to coax the tale out of her coat. The tale was too absorbed in the book looking for the perfect stationary to pay attention to her mother though. It wasn't until Elena spoke that she looked up.
"Hi," Chailyn replied giving a smile to the girl. She lifted a hand waving, giving Ane the perfect chance to slip the tale's coat off. With a smile, Anemone stood up folding the coat in her arms.
"Hello, this is Chailyn. I'm her mother, Anemone," she introduced giving a warm smile as a shiver ran down her back. She didn't know why she felt so frozen today. She couldn't help shaking lightly though she was still wrapped tightly in her jacket.
Taking a deep breath, she shuffled over towards the fireplace. She could watch Chailyn easily from there and hopefully she could warm up. She looked at Jerava giving a smile.
Elena saw the other girl and happily squirmed out of her deep blue jacket, leaving Jerava to pick it up off the floor. With a small sigh, the elf did so. "Hello Anemone, Chailyn," Jer said politely. "I'm Jerava, and the blue haired child there is my daughter, Elena."
"Hallo!" Elena said again, sitting down next to Chailyn. "What're you looking at?" she asked, peering at the book. "Looks pretty."
Jer smiled at Elena's behavior. She'd really started acting nicer since meeting Lance and Mehiyal, which was what had prompted this visit in the first place. Elena wanted to meet other Tales, and the place where they'd all come from had seemed a good starting place to Jer. The woman draped Elena's coat over her arm, leaving her own jacket, a thinner white one, on.
Chailyn smiled happily at Elena as she rushed over. It only made her smile more when the tale sat down beside her. "I'm looking for pretty paper for my tome! I want to make it pretty!" she responded almost jumping out of her skin with excitement. She was almost tempted to forget her search her attention straying towards the girl.
She flipped a page of the samples book wrinkling her nose up in disgust. She thought the antique looking stationary was hideous. "Ugly paper," she murmured closing her eyes and sticking her tongue out lightly. She looked like she'd either smelled something awful or choked down some cough medicine.
Anemone waved at Jerava, giving a smile. "Hi Jerava and Elena. It's nice to meet you. I'd move, but for some reason I'm freezing today. It's not that cold out but even with my coat on, I'm shivering," she explained as a chill ran down her spine.
She brushed her brown hair behind her ears pulling it together and wrapping a rubberband around it loosely. As she moved her arms, she felt a weight in her coat. Using her hands to feel around, she went to an inside pocket unzipping it to find an ice pack. "No wonder I'm freezing," she mumbled pulling it out of the pocket.
Chailyn let out a soft giggle looking at her mother. "Dully put it there. She was stumbling in the dark trying to find Cilly's coat." The tale gave an innocent grin before hearing a laugh from her mother.
"I like that one," Elena said, pointing at a dark blue sheet covered in silver stars. "It's blue and sparkly." Elena looked at the other girl. "What's your favorite color?" she asked, thinking that maybe Chailyn could decorate her tome in it.
"Please, call me Jer," the woman said in reply as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, revealing the tapered point. She chuckled when the ice pack was revealed. "That would make anyone freeze, I think."
"I like deep red, purple, blue, and...," she paused thinking. She liked so many colors but she couldn't determine her favorite. She looked at Elena for a moment. "Silver is pretty and gold is ok. I like soft colors like when the sun comes up...deep colors are pretty, but soft colors look like clouds."
She hoped her thoughts made sense to the other color trying to figure out a way to explain it. She didn't want to use harsh colors that would make people flare up with anger, or sad colors that would make people start to cry. She wanted a soft but vibrant color to bring out the record of her life.
"It's nice to meet you, Jer. I think you're right about the ice pack," she replied giving a smile. She slipped her coat off as the fire began to warm her, letting the cold shivers melt away. "Are you having a nice day?" she asked, not really sure what to say but trying to start a conversation.
Elena pondered what Chailyn had said, cocking her head to the side in an imitation of Jerava. "Use colors that match you?" she suggested finally. "They look soft, kind of like a sunrise."
"Nicer now that we're inside," Jer said with a smile. "I forgot how cold it gets as winter comes," she continued. "This is only my second winter here in Gaia."
Elena was currently wondering if Jer would consider buying her some of the star covered paper while waiting for Chai's reply.
Chailyn gave a soft blush, she hadn't thought of that. She gave a smile trying not to show her slight embarrassment. "I didn't think of that. Thank you," she told the tale. She gave a genuine smile of thanks.
She flipped through a few pages finding a soft sunrise type stationary followed by a noon, sunset, and midnight. She fingered the sunrise and midnight ones looking to Elena. "I think I like these two, what do you think?"
"It does get cold here. I still haven't really gotten used to it and this will be my...," she paused in her words thinking lightly. It was her seventh year in Gaia. She hadn't ever experienced a winter with snow until coming here. "Seven years...it seems like such a short time though," she murmured mostly to herself.
She turned her attention back to Jerava. "It's nice to see snow though. At night when the snow has just covered the ground so that it's like a blank canvas and the light posts make the ground glitter, in the chance snow begins to fall again it seems like such gentle wisp of sparkles that the wind has blown down from the heavens to grace us with beauty," she stopped blushing much like Chailyn had earlier. Perhaps she was getting a bit carried away with her description of snowfall.
Elena smiled back happily, and looked at the two pieces of stationary. "That one matches you," she said, tapping the sunrise one, "And that one looks good next to it," she continued, tapping the other.
"Time passes at it's own rate, acknowledging us only in passing," Jer replied wistfully. "It rarely does what we expect, let alone what we want." Jer smiled gently at Ane's heartfelt description of snow. "I 've never thought about snow like that. I tend to avoid weather, "she said with a rueful grin. "Maybe this year I'll pay more attention to it."
"I never experienced snow where I'm from, so when it comes I like to watch it. I've always liked to watch the rain," Anemone mused outloud giving a smile. "I was kind of hoping she'd run into someone today, she needs to meet more people. Some days, she seems like she'd never leave home and others she wants more than anything to go anywhere," she leaned forward, resting her arms over her thighs as she watched the two tales.
"I like these yes, they're pretty like you. The midnight one is blue like you, too..." she paused giving a giggle at her rhyme. She smiled flipping some more through the book. "Do you want to look through it? We can find some pretty paper for you, too."
"Well, there was all sorts of weather where I came from," Jer said with a sad smile. "I was rarely in one place long enough to notice it, let alone enjoy it." The elven woman glanced over at the Tales as well. " Elena's finally started to meet people around her age. And I assume that they're Tall Tales as well." Another smile." I think all children are like that. My sister's certainly were."
Elena clapped her hands joyfully. "Okay! Let's take yours out first so you don't lose them."
"She seems to like watching things. She's very shy in groups and will stand there just observing people and things. One on one, she does wonderful. She's happy and excited, curious and energetic." She gave a smile up at Jer, "Do you miss where you came from?" She had started to say home but wasn't sure if the woman considered it that.
Anemone only half of the time considered Greece her home and those times where only when she thought of herself before she turned ten or so. After that, it wasn't home. Honestly, she wasn't sure it was home after her father left...though she barely remembered him. She'd always thought it would've been nice to have one.
"Okay! You're smart, I would've forgotten where they were," Chailyn complimented giving a blush. She carefully took out the two pieces she liked and laid them to the side. Pushing the book over to Elena, so she could see it more easily, she flopped down on her stomach. She looked up at the other tale giving a curious glance wondering what kind of paper she would pick out.
"I'm not sure what Elena would be like in a large group. Except for a few people, she's been well behaved and polite. I think these impromptu meetings are good for her, " Jer looked thoughtful at the mention of where she came from. "I used to miss it a lot. I left my family behind, as well as friends." She sighed. "But I've gotten myself attached to a much larger family and I've made new friends." Jer didn't mention Seso, an old friend she'd only recently gotten back in touch with. "So I hardly miss it now," Besides, she'd been banished around the time Seso had come back into her life. "What about you?"
Elena beamed happily at being called smart. Usually Salus was telling her how not smart she was. Jer tended to compliment the girl on what she had done, but then point out how much she still had to learn. This was quite a pleasant change. The girl began to flip through the pages, stopping at ones she liked. "I like this one best though," she said to Chailyn, pointing at the silver star speckled page. "Too hard to read what's on there. Unless they make pens that write in silver," she said with an uncertain laugh.
"I'm sure she's very polite, she seems to be getting along wonderfully with Chailyn," she said giving a nod. She looked up at Jer as she talked about where she came from. She smiled almost wistfully before snapping back to what Jer was speaking of.
"Oh, I left my mother and sister. I suppose my father was still alive, he left when I was two so I really don't remember him. Sometimes I only feel like I left my mother, and some of my friends. Hopefully, my sister has grown as a person," Anemone said trying to look on the brightside. She gave a smile shrugging her shoulders. It was so long ago it seemed. "It seems like an entirely different lifetime."
"I think it's pretty, too," Chailyn replied with a smile. She tilted her head to the side looking at the paper. "I saw some pens the other day at home. Each one writes in a different color, there was gold and silver, red and blue, green and purple, pink and orange, and lots more. I bet we could find all sorts of pretty pens." She nodded her head as if she had triumphed over a huge problem. She giggled, they could write words with a rainbow of colors.
"I feel the same way." Jer said. "Things are just so wildly different here." The elf grew quiet as she contemplated the path her life had taken since coming to Gaia.
Elena perked up when Chailyn mentioned the pens. "Maybe mum will buy me some pens to go withthe paper." The girl looked around curiously. "Do they sell pens here?"
Chailyn thought for a moment looking around. "It would seem likely. It wouldn't make much sense not to sell pens. You can't use paper without pen," she mused thoughtfully. Or rather you couldn't use a pen without paper. It went both ways.
She pushed herself up so that she was sitting on her knees. She was sure there were pens around here somewhere, there had to be. She stood up turning around in place before spotting a sparkle on the counter. "Maybe there are some up there," she said pointing.
"Yes, thing are different here. If I had the option to go back, I wouldn't. This is my home now and I'm happy here," Anemone replied giving a smile.
Elena looked where Chailyn was pointing, then nodded. "Maybe those are pens," she said after a moment. "Wouldn't you want the pens on a counter? she asked, wondering if Jer would consent to pick the girl up - after all, Elena could hardly see what was up there, let alone pick out a pen.
"Exactly!" Jer said with a laugh. "This is home now, for better or worse."
"Yes, indeed," Anemone replied. She glanced over at Chailyn and Elena the rest of her thought disappearing. She looked at the counter trying to figure out what they were looking at.
"Maybe if I was on my hands and knees you could stand on my back...erm, although I might fall over," the tale blushed. "Maybe your mom could pick you up and look for us?" she suggested instead. She didn't think acting as a stool for Elena would work very well, truthfully. It'd be best to ask their moms to lift them up.
The tale held her hand out to Elena, offering to help her up and then they could toddle over to where their mothers were talking.
"Good idea," Elena said, taking Chai's hand with a smile. After standing up, Elena released the other girl's hand and dusted off her dress. "Mum," she said, tugging on the elf's sleeve. "Mum, Chailyn and I want to know if there are pens on the counter," she said when she had Jer's attention.
"Sure thing," Jer said with a shrug, easily lifting Elena up and settling the girl on her hip. "What kind of pen did you want?" the elf asked, eyeing the selection on the counter.
"I want a shiny silver one," Elena said, squirming a bit to get a better view. "What color did you want?" she asked Chailyn, squirming around again to look at the other girl.
Chailyn smiled at Elena as she stood up and dusted off her dress. She took hold of the tale's hand and walked to their mothers. She looked up at Jer curiously giving a smile. She listened looking at her mother for a moment.
"Umm, I think a shiny red or purple pen!" she concluded with enthuiasm. She gave a nod as if that finalized her decision. A red and purple pen would be nice to use when it came to writing in her tome. Or anywhere for that matter.

Blade for a Young OneOne more month until the hustle and bustle of Christmas began. At least that's what sensible people would think but there were quite a few people who seemed to be getting a headstart. That wasn't the case for Anemone and Chailyn, they were simply looking around. Taini, Chai's feline balan, had taken a likely to a few of the tales plushie and had started to drag them into a pile that she used as a bed. It was the same almost every day, Taini would drag the plushies into a pile and Chailyn would put them back in their proper place. It'd become a dance of habit for the two and so Chailyn had asked Anemone if they could shop for some special plushies, one that the tale and feline balan could share.
Mother and tale walked through the streets hand in hand shuffling through the people and casually glancing at windows. Nothing seemed to catch the toddler's eyes as she obediently followed with her mother. She was looking at every window she could see, though it was hard with people shuffling by. They were often tall and blocked her view completely making her wait until they passed and hoping someone wasn't right behind her.
She was just lucky enough to catch the glimpse of a plushie in a window. She paused tugging lightly on her mother's hand. The two made their way to the window peering at the few plushies before deciding it would be a good idea to go inside. They made their way inside both looking around. Following Chailyn, the two looked at the various plushies taking a breath as her eyes glanced acrossed looking at the weapons in the shop window across the street. While she knew how to use a sword and fight, she really didn't want her children to. Gently, she eased Chailyn away from the window to look at other stuffed animals knowing her eyes would spy the silver blades if they stayed where they were.
The plushies were grouped together and the tale sat down carefully going through them. The first plushie she touched was a pink tear drop shaped thing. She looked over it finding it odd at first. She tossed it lightly up into the air giggling when she caught it. It would make a good ball to play fetch with, if her pets would cooperate. She sat it in her lap peering over the other plushies. She gave a sigh for a moment wishing there was a green dragon plushie she could name Lance. She could name a doll after the other tales she met but Lance wasn't like them at all.
"I think...I need a lion plushie," she murmured to herself picking up the lion and looking him over. She giggled at the silver button that seemed to be a make shift naval. She prodded it giggling each time, as if she was the Pillsbury Doughboy. She continued looking through the plushies after setting the lion plushie down beside her. It seemed like it might be a long while before the tale was done inspecting the possible plush toys.
Unlike most, Anemone wasn't one who really liked shopping. She much preferred just getting whatever she needed, usually from a list she'd written, and then heading back home. She enjoyed spending her time at home rather than shopping. Although if her family was with her, she could enjoy just about anything. Thankfully the holiday seasons were all about that.
With the four plushies gathered in her arms, Chailyn smiled up at her mother signalling she was ready. She handed her plushies to her mother one by one, so that they could be scanned while she gave one last glance around the shop. She toddled over to the window peering through it and a gleam of silver catching her eyes. She blinked staring across the street at the sword. She was entranced by the shining blade. She just had to get her mother to go over there.
"Ready to go?" Anemone asked carrying the bag in her hand. She bent down to see what had caught her little one's attention. It was exactly what she hadn't wanted the tale to see, the weapons.
"We have to go other there," Chailyn said softly at first.
"No, Chai. You don't want to go there, those are weapons. People get hurt with those."
"Not for me, for Lance. He's a knight and he has to have a sword."
"I think his wooden sword suits him just fine. I don't know if Dragonfly would appreciate it if you gave him a real sword," she was trying to talk her daughter out of it. She was running out of ideas though. It wasn't that Chailyn was impossible to negotiate with as she was just a tad stubborn when it cames to friends. If she wanted to get something for her friends there wasn't much to stop her.
"He called me Princess. I'm Lance's Princess, and the princess always gives her knight a sword. So I have to get Lance a sword or else I won't be his princess anymore!" the toddler stressed her words. Her mother couldn't possibly deny her the honor of giving her knight a sword now. Who could after that speech?
And so it was that Anemone let Chailyn get Lance a sword. Although it wasn't green like Lance, Chailyn hoped he wouldn't mind the color too much. He wouldn't have to use it all the time or even at all. Just having it as a gift from her was perfect. She loved the thought of being Lance's princess and gracing him with a beautiful sword. Hopefully he would love it simply because she got it for him.

Otter Get Vidya a Gift"You got her what?" Anemone stared at Aislinn and Chailyn. She had told them to pick out something. She had given them some money, but she expected them to ask her first. So must for assuming things. It was too late now but next time, if there was a next time, she'd make sure to add a list of rules to what they could get. She was still confused about where they'd actually gotten the gift. She hadn't thought they'd gone into one of the petshops.
She gave a light sigh nodding her head. "All right. Let's go and figure out how we're going to get this to Vidya." Taking hold of both her girls' hands, she listened to the soft chittering squeaks from the otter. She was fluttering her translucent wings though she had perched on Chailyn's shoulder for the time being. Only Chailyn would think of getting an otter for a present. In that aspect, Anemone was slightly proud of Chailyn's unique vision but wondered what she would end up giving next.
"Her name is Misu. Aislinn says it means ripples in the water. It's Native American." Chailyn grinned up at her mother. Present giving was like a way to ensure that her ties with her friends remained strong. It also helped her feel more for them in a sense. Sometimes it seemed that her heart was numb or had fallen asleep, leaving her feeling cold. It wasn't often that she felt that way. It appeared to happen more often in large groups when she observed people or alone. She found it perplexing but her mind didn't dwell or wrap around it. She simply let the feeling take its route before it fled.
"At least we didn't get her a horse!" Aislinn chirped giving a grin. She giggled looking at her mother's appreciative face.
"Very funny, Linn." Anemone laughed at the cherub's comment listening as Misu echoed a soft squeal of delight. She seemed to be enjoying the company of the three leaving Ane to think that perhaps Vidya would like the otter. "I suppose, we'll have to take this little one to Vidya's soon," she added looking down at Chailyn.
"I have to make a gift tag, first," Chailyn said with a smile. She'd simply have to string some thread through the hole and make it a very loose collar on the otter. She'd write a note to go with it too.

Gift DeliveryAfter consulting the phone book for the address of Vidya's home, Dulcea and her friend Xiu Xue collected Misu and Chailyn. The tale was carrying a box that contained Lance's sword, they were going to drop it off first. Unlike Anemone, Dulcea and Xiu Xue didn't really enjoy walking and had decided to take a taxi. The two friends hoped it would be a quick service to help Chailyn out. She didn't want to wait for her mother to wake up after drifting off to sleep on the living room couch.
"To Lance's house first, I'll put it on the doorstep and ring the doorbell. Then dash back." She had it all planned out in her head. She hoped she'd be able to run fast enough if someone was near the door. As much as she would've loved to play with Lance today, she knew her sister had other plans. She was out of luck in the hope of getting to play with her friends today. It was just a quick trip to drop things off before going back home, which wasn't too bad.
They'd told Michael where they were going before they walked out the door. Hand in hand, the three made their way to the taxi and gave the driver directions to Dragonfly's house. Chailyn had warned them it look a bit creepy but Dulcea had though it was the tale's imagination. By the time the house came into view, Dulcea had changed her mind. The house was more than creepy. It looked safe to live in but that was all she could see that was good about it.
Chailyn grinned once the taxi stopped and waited til the driver gave her permission to unbuckle her seatbelt. He was driving extra carefully since he didn't have a safety seat, the toddler wasn't 4'9", the height suggested for children to use seat belts without a booster seat. She crawled over Dulcea opening the door before taking the box. A small gulp of nervousness made her throat feel dry but she made her way to the door. Placing the box on the step, she rang the doorbell and darted off.
Lance would find a note from Chailyn nestled in the box with the sword. She hadn't written a lot as she'd been at a lost for what to say. Still she'd written enough she felt. Truth be told Aislinn had helped her write most of it. She hadn't really known how to say it so the cherub had told her how to write it, adding how to spell things. Chailyn's Note Lance, As your princess, I bestow upon you a gift fit for a knight. A sword from your princess, for her knight in shining armor. If ever in danger, it'll protect you well. I hope you like it.
Luff, Chai Traveling to Nio and Enoh's house had taken a bit longer for the trio. Still they'd arrived and with a smile, Chailyn repeated the process of unbuckling her seatbeat and crawling over Dulcea. She took Misu into her arms and walked to the door. "Misu, you're a gift for Vidya and I'm going to set you down here. When I run off, stay here. Someone will answer the door and you'll know Vidya because she has blue skin."
The chirping that followed told Chailyn that the otter understood and she set the creature down. She rested a note on the otter, who had rolled over to lay on her back. Holding it with her paws, she looked up at Chailyn. With some relunctance, she rung the doorbell and dashed away. Chailyn's Note Vidya, I want to thank you for playing with me. I had fun playing Ms. Wolf with you. Aislinn did too. The two of us found you a gift. I hope you like her. She's an otter and we named her Misu, which means Ripples in the Water. I thought of you when I saw her as she's so nice. I hope you think so, too.

Mounting Thoughts So much has gone on since I write wrote last. Halloween came and I went as a pink diva. I don't know what a diva is, Linn said its a tallinnted talented person. I went trick or treating with Lance and had lots of fun. Spending time with Lance is always fun!
I got a new pet. Her name is Taini. She's a feline balan and very different from Laban. He's a knine canine balan. I think he's a little fed up with her. She kept stealing my plushies and she wouldn't listen to 'ban when he said to put them back. He's a good boy. She's fistee fiesty.
I got to play with Vidya at the park, Aislinn played too. We all played 'What time is it, Ms. Wolf'! It was really fun. I got scared when Linn fell down. I thought she got hurt, but she was just laughing. Then it was fun again. Viddy's all grown up...well not all grown up but bigger than me. She's as big as Linn now! She's really pretty. I hope I grow up to be pretty like Viddy. I think everyone loves her, I wonder if everyone could love me, too.
I went to the stationary store to find some pretty paper for my tome and met Elena. She's pretty and got eyes like Dulcea. The color is so bright. It makes me want to stare at them. We looked through the sample book for pretty paper.
Oh, yes. I got Mom to let me buy a sword for Lance. Then Linn and I bought an otter for Vidya. I'll have to buy a gift for Elena soon. I like to buy gifts for my friends. It makes me feel like they won't forget me. I think of that after I have to go or they go. About being forgotten, I mean. I don't like to think of it. I wouldn't want my friends to forget me. It would hurt. I don't want to be hurt. It reminds me of the books Aislinn reads me, someone is always in pain or has heartache. It sounds bad.
My writing is getting better. I sometimes practice when I am alone. I don't want Linn to read everything I write. It makes me feel nervous. Mom says it's butterflies in my stomach. I tried to tell her I didn't eat any but she said they weren't that kind of butterfly. I don't think I understand what she meant. She said it just feels like butterflies, there aren't really in my tummy. I don't want them in my stomach, either. So that makes me happy.
I can't remember what I wanted to write. I'm sure I'll remember later. My mind seems filled with thoughts but I can't seem to write them down. So, I think I'm going to go see what Linn, Mie, and Dully are doing.

Stocking AppearanceIt was 10:00pm, the night sky a deep almost void blue. There were stars just gently sparkling as the moon glowed a ghostly white. There had been a faint tap on the door that had aroused Laban, Taini, and Princess. The curious three headed to the front door, the balan following Princess's movements. She stood up on her hind legs pawing at the door gently and mewing. The sudden cries called to Anemone.
Anemone stood up leaving the living room and Michael to see what was going on. She'd never seen the three group up and cry for attention. "What's wrong?" she asked gently. She tilted her head as she moved forward, careful not to step on any of the pets. Twisting the knob, she opened the right side of the double doors. There was a box on the doorstep.
The three sniffed the air, inching towards the box as if it would pounce on them. Princess led the way, letting her ears fall forward. It didn't seem to have any malicious scent to it. Sitting down she gave a mew as if to let Ane know it was ok to pick up.
"Come on you three, inside," she told them as she picked up the box. It was only after she checked to see the three were inside that she closed the door. She set the box down on a side table, pulling out a drawer to retrieve the letter opener. The tape didn't look thick and the tool cut right through it. The styrofoam popcorn pieces covered the object, though barely. A stocking was resting inside with a tag that read, "To Chailyn. From Santa?" She was curious as to who it was from. The only clue was on the box, Glen of Glowio.
Slipping the stocking out of the box, she went to Chailyn's room hanging it on the doorknob for now. She was sure the tale would see it as soon as she woke up. She didn't want to wake the toddler from her peaceful slumber.

Nancy DrewSt. Louis. Washington University. Nancy Drew is visiting her friend Maya Nguyen, an old high school friend. As part of the school paper, she is on her way to the Palladium Theater to interview Brady Armstrong. Built in the 1920s, the Palladium Theater was used by all the great magicians, including Houdini. Nancy follows along with Maya but waits back stage while Maya goes into Brady Armstrong's dressing room. After a few moments, Nancy hears Maya scream. She checks the dressing room but it's empty. While still looking through the room, the phone rings. It's the kidnapper saying if the demolition isn't stopped she'll go down with the building.
Aislinn held Chailyn in her lap, as Dulcea watched them while she worked on writing something. She'd offer to let them use her computer to play The Final Scene, a Nancy Drew 3D Interactive Mystery. So now the two were staring at the computer both with different ideas of what they should do.
"Call the police!" Chailyn mused outloud.
"They'll just say we can't file a 'Missing Persons' report until Maya's been gone for 24 hours. So let's look around." The cherub was more interested in investigating the threater and interrogating the people.
"If we don't call, we look...sa-pish-shush!" she managed. She gave a smile hearing Dulcea laugh in amusement. Chailyn had obviously said the right thing, if Dully was laughing.
"Ok, after we talk to Simone we can call the police," Aislinn compromised. She hoped it was going to be fun playing with the toddler. She really didn't think it was much fun at the moment, since she couldn't ignore her sister. She hugged the half-pint giving a somewhat feigned laugh. "We can play until dinner, then we'll have to wait until tomorrow to play."
"You two might want a notebook to write information in. So, here's a small notebook you can use for that," Dulcea started standing up. She walked over to the desk opening one of the bottom drawers and pulling out a small notebook. She handed it to Chailyn, getting a pen from the top drawer so they could write in it.
"Yay! I get to write!" the tale giggled. She flipped the notebook opening and began to write down some information.
Phone Numbers: Royal Palladium - [314]-555-7189 St. Louis Police Department - [314]-555-1422 City Garbage - [314]-555-1013 ABC - [206]-555-8726
"I wrote done the phone numbers. What else should I write?" she asked looking up at Aislinn, then to Dulcea. She wondered what information she needed to remember and what wasn't important.
"We should write down the suspects," Aislinn suggested.
The Suspects: Brady Armstrong Nicholas Falcone Joseph Hughes Simone Mueller
It was a moment before either looked back at the game. They'd only managed to call the police, speak to Simone, Nick, and Brady before Ane called upstairs that it was time for dinner. The two sighed saving their game and hopping down off the chair. Parents seemed to have a knack for knowing when one was having fun.

Foamy Toothpaste Monster Chailyn giggled as she brushed her teeth. She had been up for an hour or so playing dress up with her sisters. She'd been reminded to brush her teeth but was having a bit of trouble. She was wearing a button up shirt of Dulcea's over a tank top but the long sleeves kept falling over her hands. She wrinkled her nose up getting slightly frustrated with the shirt. Long sleeves were just horrible.
"Hurry up, Chai. Rosalind and I have to brush our teeth, too." Aislinn looked at the toddler supressing a giggle. She seemed to be having so much trouble with those sleeves. "Here, let me roll your sleeves up..." the cherub offered. She instructed the tale to hold her arms out before folding the sleeves up so that they wouldn't get in her way so much.
"Han' ooh!" Chailyn mumbled giggling at the garbled message. She couldn't talk with her toothbrush in her mouth. She pulled it out, pursing her lips to cover them a bit more with toothpaste foam. Leaning towards Aislinn, she acted like she was going to kiss the cherub.
"Ew, Chai!" Aislinn giggled backing up and putting her hands up in defense. She squealed reeling backwards as she tripped, falling to the floor with a thump. It was echoed by rushing footsteps coming up the stairs and then down the hall.
"What are you doing? Tearing down the walls?" Anemone asked, her tone a mixture of concern and amusement as she laid eyes on the sprawled out cherub.
"Chai's trying to kiss me with foamy toothpaste lips!" the cherub laughed, pointing at Chailyn.
The tale giggled as best she could before setting her toothbrush down and rushing towards her mother. "I'm gonna kiss you!" she shouted out gleefully. She darted towards her mother giving Aislinn time to get up and run.
"Oh no you don't! I don't want a sloppy toothpaste kiss!" the woman laughed rushing into the room and pretending to hide behind Rosalind. The fox girl looked up at her mother before darting away. She wasn't going to play this game. Rushing out the door, she shut the door leaving the three to duke it out themselves. "My little toothpaste monster scared Rosalind away," she said softly looking towards the door.
"You have to protect me, Mom!" Aislinn squeaked flying up and throwing her arms around her mother's neck.
"But who is going to protect me?"
"I'm gonna get you both!" Chailyn replied giving a fake growl, that sounded like a small kitten. She rushed towards her mother, who picked her up.
"Fine, I'll sacrifice myself so that both of you can get your teeth brushed," Anemone stated letting her little one give her a foamy toothpaste kiss on the cheek. "Go finish brushing your teeth before you swallow that icky stuff," she added setting the tale down and gently directing her to the bathroom.
"Aww, I was kind of hoping she'd get me." Aislinn mumbled sarcastically. She giggled landing on the floor and rushing to the bathroom. She wasn't going to give her mother a chance to use that foam on her.

Secret Santa Awhile ago I got the idea that with all the tales that are around a secret santa would be wise. I know Chailyn would want to buy a present for every tale and while that's wonderful, somehow I don't think that letting her spend who knows how much gold on all of them would be a good idea. I asked a few of the other parents what they thought and most thought it would be a good idea.
I didn't think I could do it all on my own so I asked for help. Dragonfly offered to help as did Pales. I haven't really talked a lot with him, but he seems nice. The two of them have helped a lot. We gathered up a list of the parents and tales who were interested in it and even a few people who have just visited the stationary shop. Dragonfly did the work of finding out who had who. She also sent out the names with their wishlist to the Santas. It was almost comical the other day when Chailyn got hers. She opened it and squealed from excitement. Then she ran around trying to tell people who she got. I had to remind her that it was a secret. She slipped it into her tome after that. She said I could look because I'd be helping her buy the present but she refused to tell anyone else.
So we both have discovered who we have to get gifts for. I think she's more excited about getting a gift for the person assigned to her since she hasn't even thought about recieving one. She's so cute, the way she tries so hard not to say anything about it. She's doing a wonderful job, I think. She wants to write something so, I'll let her write her own thoughts on Secret Santa.

Secret Santa I got the name of the person I get to buy a gift for today! I'm very excited to go shopping and buy the gift. I looked at the wishlist and already picked out what I'm going to get. I don't know who Mom has to get a gift for but I bet we'll go shopping together. I really don't care if I get anything, though Mom said I will. I was kind of embarrassed to have to make a list of things I want. I didn't want to seem greedy or anything. I tried to do my best to make a list though.
My head is spinning and I have to go to bed soon. I really kind of wish that we would get to know who got us a present. I'd want to send a thank you note, but it'll be anonymous. I guess I could write one and ask if it could be given to the person or something. Maybe I could put it in the shop and then the person would see it. I think I'm going to ask Mom if I can have some cookies and milk before bed.

Days of a Cold Anemone sighed as the water cascaded down her face. With her eyes closed, she twisted the shower knobs adjusting the temperature though she was too distracted to think. She ran her hands over her hair turning her back to the water so she could breathe through her mouth. Her arms crossed over her chest, giving herself a hug of comfort in hopes Chailyn would be over her cold soon. Her ears picked up the tales deep coughs making her worry more.
Chailyn hadn't really been sick before now. There had been a day or two where the tale felt ill but after some rest had been back to feeling fine. This was different. The tale had a fever, she was coughing, her tonsils were swollen, her sleeping was restless, and she seemed miserable. She was sleeping rather peacefully at the moment and with some coaxing from Michael, Ane had decided to take a shower before taking a nap or at least laying down. She knew he would take wonderful care of Chailyn which gave her some comfort.
Stepping out of the shower, she wrapped herself in a towel. It was only then that she noticed how tired she was. She covered her mouth as she let out a yawn before dressing. She slipped a silk button-up long sleeved shirt on over her pale skyblue colored bra and underwear. She didn't have the energy to put on her jeans. She opened the door of the bathroom and wandered back into the bedroom, almost collasping onto the bed. She couldn't remember the last time she slept since Chailyn got sick, though it'd only been a few days. She'd cleaned, held Chai, rocked Chai, done her best to pay equal attention to all her children, and had only enough energy to lie in bed next to Michael when she wasn't getting up to check on the tale.
An Hour Later Chailyn sniffled looking up at the living room ceiling with tired eyes. She coughed, feeling like her throat would burst. Taini hissed as she was once again disturbed from her sleeping place on the tale's chest. She mewed, moving to lay beside Chailyn instead. She was just trying to help keep the tale warm, while Laban acted as a pillow of sorts. He kept letting out soft whimpers as he dreamed.
She'd already had three bowls of chicken soup for lunch but her stomach felt empty and growled. She really really dispised being sick. She felt miserable from her pounding head, her sore throat, her cold skin, all the way to her feet that felt sore if she got up to walk for even a minute. She nuzzled deeper into the blankets, since her father had already told her a story a few moment earlier. She was just trying to get comfortable now. In her tired state, it only took her a moment once she turned on her side to fall asleep.
Her heavy eyes closed tightly as she yawned letting out a mild cough. She began drifting off to sleep, the purrs of Taini giving her comfort. She quietly began to dream, though she didn't really realize she was dreaming.
